Ringer cars only increases skepticism. If the last lap time wasnt questionable, at best... claiming a 9 second drop in lap time just pegs the bullshit meter.

same old.

"unmodified" Lee ?

Yep, doesnt look like an army of engineers setting up a ringer for a laptime Wink

Holy effing poo

- HAULN-SS - 05-02-2008

Ehh, i'm kind of of the mindset "so what if it's faster than the z06"...since chevrolet has already moved on from that, and relegated the LS7 to lesser cars like the upcoming camaro.

- WRXtranceformed - 05-02-2008

You don't think Pagani did the same thing? You think some schmuk just rolled up in a trailer pulled by an F-350 and rolled out his Zonda F for a leisurely drive at the track to see what kind of time it would run? Wink

correct, because you didn't see pagani swinging their dicks all over the world saying how they were faster than this, that, how a ring time is the fucking gold cup of a vehicle's worth... fuck.

Mike, I am definitely not a fanboi of skylines at all, but I just read the new road and track and it beat out the porsche by at least a couple seconds on an only 2:30 minute course. Very surprised at how it can do all of this with "only" 480 horsepower and a fucking heavy ass chassis at 3900.

- ViPER1313 - 05-02-2008

I'm just waiting for the ZR1 to go out on track and rip the Skyline a new asshole.

i'm not denying it beat the porsche or the z06. i'm denying it is the 2nd fastest production car EVER.

- Evan - 05-02-2008

im denying it beat the z06

Is the road and track article the one with Rhys Millen, the nissan factory driver driving the cars? With questionable daq?

Actually, Nissan really hasn't done much from what I've seen to promote the GT-R. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen Nissan do any of what you've said. It's been magazines like R&T, Top Gear and SCC/Turbo that have done all the smack talk, with results to back it up. Nissan simply played with the waiting game with the international community, creating suspicion and tense curiosity. And they weren't the first to exploit N'ring performance either, BMW and even Chevy have been doing that for years.

Either way, this should be interesting.....

you'd be silly to say they didn't know what they were doing... and the fact that after they beat the cars they wanted to beat, they chopped off another 9 seconds? come on.

Why stop? What development team in their right mind would hold back when they know more is to be had? They took the car out on a dry 'ring this time, took off 9 seconds, and are now in hypercar territory. They're just developing their car, and I don't see them being cocky about it. Fact is, you're getting a true world-beater for 70k; I don't see how anyone could complain.

- Mike - 05-03-2008

i'm not getting one... they're ugly. Tongue

- REED - 05-03-2008

what the hell is that Tire Rack tool?

- Jeff - 05-03-2008

Is it some sort of CAD input tool? Like he touches it to the car and it takes measurements? It looks like hes vacuuming the braked with a little turbovac.

REED Wrote:what the hell is that Tire Rack tool?

I think it is a CAD tool..saw one just like it on a Discovery channel / TLC show.

The fact that the car has a Summit Racing sticker on it is hilarious. It prolly gotsa 250 wet shot on it.

This makes a lot more sense than just the power being underrated!

Modified suspension, cut slicks, a flying start (a lot of cars do that), and a disputed start/finish. Those issues alone probably account for at least five seconds around the 'Ring.

The bone-stock GT-R made 7th in class (SSGT1 Large Bore) and 11th overall out of 72 cars in the '08 One Lap. The car was campaigned by Tony Swan of Car and Driver, and it was a drama-filled affair. They DNF'ed on the auto-x by going off course (which dropped them from 5th), ran a second-slower 1/4 mile than expected because he couldn't figure out launch control, etc. and while Swan blamed the Bridgestone run-flats and the electrical doo-dads for everything that went wrong, most just blamed his driving ability. Regardless, I'd love to see what this car will achieve in the future as it will certainly be back at the OLA, in private hands and maybe with some modifications (because who runs a factory stock car at an event like this?)
