Maybe Sony will start shipping PS3s w/ HD-DVD players? Tongue

Prominent adult movie producer Digital Playground (site) says it is forced to use HD DVD instead of Blu-ray, because Sony does not allow XXX-rated movies to be released on Blu-ray.

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

- WRXtranceformed - 01-11-2007

Lmao awesome. Blu-Ray seemed like a gimmick anyway, my guess was that it wouldn't last. It's gonna be like those big ass laserdiscs they used to use when we were in elementary school

- Evan - 01-11-2007

blu ray is the superior technology, but it looses bigtime with crippling digital rights managment

Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

I remember seeing somewhere that the porn industry popularized VHS eventhough it was inferior to betamax.

Which is? That you and Apoc read about porn or that the porn industry dictates an aspect of our lives.

- Mike - 01-12-2007

part of my job, sorry for knowing.

- Evan - 01-12-2007

betamax's flaw was flipping the tape. usability is king.

the porn industry was also vital to developing secure online payments using credit cards

I wish I could change my vote now. With the caliber of games that have come out for the PS3, and with as much fun as I'm having with 360 games, I have absolutely no desire to get a PS3 now. If Resistance: Fall of Man is the best thing that console can muster, I'm very unimpressed.

I'm sure they'll come out with some better games in a year or so, but none of them are going to compete with Halo 3 and some of the other slated releases on the XBOX. Plus, I heard there is already a second version in the making of the 360!

The big franchise games like Metal Gear won't be out till Xmas 07 at the earliest and GT5 is scheduled for 08. I don't how many other really good exclusive titles they'll have in the next year. If they don't have the heavy hitter exclusive games to drive console sales they're not going to get the installed base they need to keep developers dedicated to the platform.

I heard that too. I may just buy a used 360 (I'm going to wait as long as possible before Forza 2 comes out) and sell it when that one comes out. The rumor is it'll have a HDMI port.

people are so overhyping that... same with 1080p. it really isn't a reason to buy a system now rather than later. you're just pushing the decode to the tv (assuming you have one that can support it)... who cares?

- Evan - 01-12-2007

back to back comparison bewteen component cables and hdmi on anne's hdtv was noticable, even with a 480p source and upscaled 1080i.
id imagine that with a proper HD source and a better tv (hers is a low end hd model) the difference would be even bigger.

- WRXtranceformed - 01-12-2007

Really? It made that big of a difference? I've been debating getting HDMI monster cables for a while, but they are SO EXPENSIVE! It's like $300 for a 6 foot cable.

Maybe stick with the non-monster cables? I dunno, if it's worth the money I'd consider it..

Confusedhrug: i'd have to see it to believe it. on the two HD screens i have access to, the difference is negligible to none. what tv does she have? what is the source?

- Evan - 01-12-2007

dont buy Monster anything Lee, a decent HDMI cable can be had for under $20

agreed. It's digital. The only time a "high quality" cable has any sort of justification is when you're talking about an analog signal. It's laughable that they sell that, it'd be like buying a pure gold/platinum, vacuum sealed, antigravity ethernet cable.

true, their copper cables are quite nice. when i first put a sub into my integra (back in the day) i bought one of those wiring kits that comes with everything you need. i was getting so much noise from the rca cables that you could hear the engine rev based on the amount of static you could hear from the speakers. i replaced those cables with some monster rca cables and they've been silent ever since. also a friend of mine plays bass guitar and swears by monster cables. but for digital stuff, i suppose as long as all those 1's and 0's get there, it should be all good, but i dont know much about that.
