No idea, it isn't even an option in the US.

They are not mandatory in the US and only US legal in a single light configuration (not dual like Justin’s car has / as required in Europe.)

I can code it to only illuminate 1 side. May need to do that.

Also, unless you are driving in heavy fog, please keep that shit off. Supremely annoying to look at.

This must be why I have been blinded behind some BMWs and Audis. I just figured their electrical system was wonky. Makes a lot more sense now.

i think it's actually more helpful for the single light from behind as it doesn't look like someone is braking all the time. most plebs in the US won't understand the single (or even double) rear fog light even though it helps them see you better in inclement weather. nice job on that; i love rear fogs, especially the single driver's rear fog.

btw - great job on the carbon wrap. i was pessimistic at first, but that looks great! i hope it lasts in the summer heat.

Agreed.

It's only turning on when necessary.

Plus the front and rear fog light buttons reset to off when you turn the car off, so less likelihood of just rocking it unknowingly. The dash indicator helps too.

I'm gonna recode it to be driver's side only.

Also, got the center console wrapped...

I need to look up videos of pulling the door handles. I swear they were gonna snap in half when I was trying to pop em off.

You have a lot of USB cables.

2 phones and the kids fire tablet.

So fuck the door handles, holy shit they are a pain to remove. Got the front doors done.

But, I'm happy with the results.

If it doesn't last, I'm out $30, and about 3hrs of time. I'll have to find a used set of aluminum/blue, or piano black/red trim

Also coded the rear fog to be driver's side only.

Coded doors to unlock with ignition off. So annoying to pull the door handle twice.

I also miss the door lock button being on the door.

RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - Apoc - 04-09-2018

I think the CF looks pretty good. I really don't like our wood, but I do not have the patience to do that and I'm too cheap to pay someone to do it.

The wife HATES that the doors don't unlock and/or the button is on the center console. It's a pain in the ass every time we get out and have to get into the back seat to get our kid our of his car seat. It's been a year and a half and we still haven't realized that's something you have to do pretty much every time we get out of the car.

I'm so close to buying it.

Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 04-09-2018

Yup, trying to open the door for the kid to get out while we were out to dinner....coded it out as soon as we got back home.

RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - Steve85 - 04-10-2018

Damn, you've been busy!

I agree to an extent on the door unlocking but I've found if I get out and need to get in the back door, it's a simple grab of either exterior front door handle to unlock all the doors. No need to reach back into the center of the dash. The double handle pull to get out is annoying, especially when you're used to car off unlocking.

That CF is looking better than I expected, well done! I do like having the silver though to break up the blackness. And the blue stripe for a touch of factory german painted dash rice.

I ordered it.

Springs came today. Per an email to AC Schnitzengiggle, the oem bumpstops are recommended.

Need to chat with my buddy to make sure BMW is friendly to lowering springs and my warranty. I'm still up in the air of I  will tackle this, or have someone else do it.

It will last, I used the same stuff on the E36 glove box trim ~9 years ago and it's holding up just fine.

So bicycle people....

I have a Yakima hitch rack.

BMW hitch install involves removing the bumper. Videos make it look like a bit of a pain. Plus I'm boubtful I'd even want more than 2 bikes hanging off the back of the wagon. It would probably look like it's doing a wheelie.

For about the same price, if not cheaper, I can get a bike tray for the roof rack. My complaint with the roof mount is obviously hoisting the bike up there, and basically leaving the cross bars and tray on at all times. Which, can be seen as a pro, cause I like wagons with a nice rack.

Hitch will leave with the car.

Bike tray will stay once the car goes.

I'm leaning roof mount bike tray?

What say ye pedal bikers...

You got the car, what a week ago? Why are you even worried about the next car?

I vote roof tray. Hitch racks look absurd with multiple bikes.
