Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - ScottyB - 08-24-2017 yeah i've driven an 8th gen Si, a Mk6 GTI (borrowed after the wreck) and a Mk7. the GTI's feel a lot like my old audi so i'm familiar with that super light, long throw clutch. i hate to come across as an elitist, because i totally appreciate the DSG but i think i just would be bored out of my mind if i couldn't shift gears. the GTI isn't the best manual i've used but its passable for me. the shift action itself feels nice and i don't mind the weight. Hey, don't knock it... it frees up a hand for texting! Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - G.Irish - 08-24-2017 The bright side with the DSG is that it makes it easier to left foot brake if you're rallycrossing. For me, I didn't like the Audi/VW DSG when I drove the S3. At low speeds there's too much delay between applying throttle and actually moving. Just a bit weird and disjointed for me. The M will give me a shove sometimes but I don't feel like I have to drive around it (other than it not snapping into reverse as fast as a manual would). Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - ScottyB - 08-24-2017 no doubt the DSG would be faster for racing. as a bonus you can get down into 1st for tight courses really easy vs. having to double-clutch down into that gear at speed. i drove my dad's '08 TT DSG a fair bit and its certainly entertaining, especially in a car with some power. i felt better getting back to 3 pedals though when it was over. i don't sit in traffic too much so my situation is different, but if i was in a city like you guys i'd probably do the same as you Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - ViPER1313 - 08-24-2017 Blah blah blah VW blah blah blah. Seriously no love for a CTS-V? First generation examples are well within your newly expanded price range, correct wheel drive, manual and V8, cause Merica. Different cars, sentiment is correct - https://youtu.be/4Iznx28pcxw Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - Senor_Taylor - 08-24-2017 Those first gen CTS-Vs really start to degrade. Seriously go look at any of the 04 models. The plastic starts to fade and crack, leather doesn't hold up very well. That first gen infotainment is awful too. So what I'm saying is, Scotty do this and straight pipe it. They are really fun cars. I am for once with Adam on this one Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - Apoc - 08-24-2017 Also, they're ugly as fuck. Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - ScottyB - 08-24-2017 i'm not saying i'm not already looking at CTS-V's.... but just the idea of me arriving at my in-law's place after a 7 hour highway drive, in a mud-splattered, straight piped behemoth. it might get me divorced and disowned in the same day Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - ViPER1313 - 08-24-2017 Apoc Wrote:Also, they're ugly as fuck.

Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - *insertusernamehere* - 08-25-2017 I'm still silently rooting for a Civic Si. It feels much better than the GTI. Re: Help Me Buy A Car Thread v.ScottyB: WITNESS ME BROTHERS - ScottyB - 08-25-2017 drove through half of SC today to Stokes Honda to test drive and potentially buy an Si. 2011, 26k miles, minty clean, cool color. i mean perfect. best one on the east coast as far as i could tell, and i've looked non-stop for a week. love how they drive. i mean its a go-kart, except its also reliable and roomy. keeps asking you to send it to that 8200 rpm scream. shifter feels like a rifle bolt. calms right down when you put it in 5th or 6th at highway speeds (both gears are overdrive). super neutral around off-ramps. with just a decent set of performance tires i can tell already that you could absolutely fly on a good hilly road. battled on the price for 2 hours. went through 4 salesmen and 2 finance officers. i was locked onto this thing like a pitbull. they wouldn't come down enough. had to walk. drove my defeated ass over to a Moe's to drown my tears into a burrito full of saturated fat and then 3 hours home in a flooding storm trying to figure out what to do next.
