He's a big boy, you've proven to get more butthurt from this than he has. On the oil note, it's fine. Run the car on that oil for the next 3-5K and then change it with the Mazda oil and filter. EDIT: removed bad omen. Run the car on what you have in it. It'll be fine until the next change. PayPal is Venmo. So i guess if you're that upset with a different logo :dunno: You wouldn't use Venmo for online purchases Just for when your out with buddies, split the bill 50 ways and just need to send someone a couple bucks right then and there. Is it a niche use case? Absolutely; but it's definitely not useless and i find myself using it a lot. lastly +1 on the .edu Facebook days. Good times. I still use it to log in, have no idea how to change it to my gmail. My JMU address must have hundreds of thousands of Facebook notification e-mails. Sorry for threadjacking. This thing isn't a spec Miata, it's a cheap NA that wasn't a garage queen. It really depends on how bad you want your motor to get, especially since it's showing questionable numbers now (pending results of another gauge, and a leak down), why press your luck (especially with your car luck history)?. I know it's not a spec Miata, that doesn't change the needs of the motor. The spec Miata gets an oil/filter change after every race weekend. I could probably save it and put it in the street car. Oil is cheap, so is the filter, do it the correct way. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Scott - 07-07-2016 ViPER1313 Wrote:I am happy / glad for you Taylor, really. Seriously. Yes, change your damn oil to a quality 10w-30 and a Mazda filter. But yes, excellent job sticking with it and getting the car running  Now take care of it and enjoy the heck out of it Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 07-07-2016 Gave it a quick wax and polish then took it on a short drive to blow off the oil from the compression test. She cleans up nice. ![]() ![]()

First autocross with the engine running well! Definitely a lot more power now! It's really weird having a miata that idles at 800 rpm smoothly (my old one idled really high as well). She's smooth and she's strong. So strong, in fact, that my crappy tires are even more crappy now as the engine likes to use the torsen to spin both tires and turn them into small bits of melted rubber. The course in Roanoke was very fun, but extremely confusing and hard to remember, so much so that only 2 of my 4 runs were even complete. I finished less than a second away from first place, so I would have probably gotten a trophy if my GF wasn't with me on my 2 good runs, but that doesn't matter. I had a lot of fun, but I wish we got more runs than 4. Here's my fastest run below. I really wanted to take everyone's advice and either be on gas or on the brakes and never coasting, but these tires did not allow that. I tried to carry more speed the next run, but the tires would not hold and the car pushed WAAAAYYY too much. I know we all talk about seat time before mods, but I'm 100% certain these tires are a detriment to everything performance related with this car. I'm not too worried about it because we can all agree that Miatas with bad tires are more fun than ones with sticky rubber, but I'd like to imagine I'd be very competitive with tires that weren't off brand, 9+ year old ones. After that, I make the trek to Chan's house and pulled my old speakers (6" Sony Xplode), cup holders attachment, and the old head unit from my previous Miata. I threw the speakers in before I headed home and I put the head unit in this morning. I hate to ruin the stock look of my M edition interior, but it's nice to have USB and an aux input now, especially with great speakers. I plan to pick up a nicer head unit soon since this one looks so ratty, but it'll do for now. I just need to get my power antenna fixed or replaced with a stationary one. Now I have a total of 4 tweeters and 2 regular woofers in my car now, which is a bit overkill. The high frequency range is strong enough to give you an ear ache now. Overall I'm really happy with the car right now. It may be the most complete and functional car I've owned. Next time I'll just stop in the middle of the course and start pouring marbles and baby oil everywhere. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - rherold9 - 07-13-2016 I don't see tires as being really a mod unless you go slicks. The best 200 treadwear if you want to win autox is the RE71R. Sent from my SM-T713 using Tapatalk Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Jake - 07-13-2016 Yeah, get good tires. It's hard to implement a lot of techniques/teachings if you just have no grip to start with. Good, new tires will give you a baseline to grow from. I had a lot of fun, but I wish we got more runs than 4. Congrats on getting close to 1st  . Don't worry about the weight of your girlfriend, it makes hardly a difference in autox at this level (if you notice at locals like BRR-SCCA I pretty much have a passenger every single run). SCCA stuff is limited to 4 runs, you could always come up here and do a capital driving club which is 3 runs in morning and 3-4 runs in afternoon. I got started with them, and is actuall a closer driver from JMU than JMU to salem... There is one this saturday..... I do suggest getting tires other than all-seasons. They just degrade and actually wear faster than a sporty tire in autox. Something like a mid-tier max performance tire like a Dunlop DZII Star Spec. No need to go RE71R at this point in your "career" until you get a bit faster. Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - SlimKlim - 07-13-2016 Just be aware of how fast you will eat through something like a Star Spec on the street if you want to keep driving this car back and forth between school and home or backroad "cruises" at Defcon 1. I corded a set of Hankook RS2s in ~8k miles. That's probably less of an issue for you because you have the truck, and your tires cost like $10 each, just something to keep in mind. |
