Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - SlimKlim - 08-03-2017 That's some Grade A fuckery right there. I pretty much only trust 2 shops in this area at this point. Coho in man-asses and Mach V in sterling. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-03-2017 Its time to move the car on to a new owner Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-03-2017 SlimKlim Wrote:That's some Grade A fuckery right there. Its going to Auto scandia in herndon, they have a pretty good rep and only do eurotrash cars. I will be taking cars elsewhere from now on thats for sure. To belabor the point that you simply don't want to do the work. Sucks RJ, I don't have time for shops like that and it's super frustrating. Be sure to roast the shit out of them on Google and Yelp reviews. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-03-2017 I dont think I've ever left a review online, ether positive or negative. Its easier just to tell them straight up what I think and then vote with my dollars in the future. Most car shop reviews have lots of shit reviews anyways because people have a distorted view of what car repairs are required or what they cost, especially if they own a complicated older vehicle they cant afford to maintain. It looks like that the shop is no longer "Curry's" its "Mr Tire" so I'm assuming they are under new ownership/management since the last time I was there. I guess I didnt notice that dropping the car off on a flatbed in the dark last night after I hadnt eaten in 12 hours. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-03-2017 I had the car towed to auto scandia. Had a long talk, using real automotive terms, with the service writer about things, and they're going to dig into it Monday morning, and will re-evaluate then, with the worst case being new bearings and hubs. Oh well, new owner gets a bonus repair, and I get to play the sad trombone. Initial impression is that I wish I'd switched to this shop sooner, so maybe I will leave "mr tire" a dick punching review. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - xvxax - 08-04-2017 About a year before I sold my car I dropped my car off at currys for an emergency alignment. Needed to be on the road the next day or I think I had an autocross event somewhere, had just finished messing with something, etc. They quoted me $150, but without letting me know before doing the work charged me $325 for a "race alignment". Store manager never returned my call or email. Fuck currys. .RJ Wrote:Well, curry's can go fuck themselves. They've done some good work for me in the past but they've jumped the shark. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-04-2017 And car shops (and dealerships) wonder why they have such a bad reputation and complain about it. They also treat their techs and service writers like shit, too, and wonder why they cant keep good people. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - Jewels - 08-04-2017 .RJ Wrote:And car shops (and dealerships) wonder why they have such a bad reputation and complain about it. Ask Jason about that. This is the reason that he's working in Warrenton and living in Winchester. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-04-2017 My father worked at the same dealership for 30 years and left with no better benefits or perks than a guy that just got hired. He now runs and indy shop & car wash 15 minutes from home that gives him health insurance and paid vacation. I just wish he were closer to fix my german garbage. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-05-2017 The check arrived for the audi, so I went and drove some golf alltracks last night*. Fit & finish was nice, better than I'd expect in a car thats $23k OTD. Plenty of space. It drove and handled ok, about the same as our old TDI wagon that got the viking funeral. But, I was sort of hoping that it was, or maybe could be, a taller, longer, softer around the edges GTI long roof... and I'm definitely wrong about that. Its slow... really slow. The throttle response is sort of a vague request for some fuel, please, and worse than the old diesel. Pulling onto the highway in the wrong gear is a liability. I dont know if its because these were 0 mile cars and the ECU pulls power until they're driven a while, but, its slow. After we left the sales office the first thing my wife said was "is it supposed to be that slow?". I've ruined her with a tuned A4 & 135. Excellent. So, an APR tune would be absolutely necessary if we bought this, probably an exhaust, and some different tires if not wheels, too. I think we've decided to go down to 1 car for the rest of the year, so I dont want to hate the one car I do drive. I'm watching this, though - http://bringatrailer.com/listing/2011-bmw-328-3/ - I bet it goes up to more than I want to spend, but, I'm watching this weekend. *we went to lindsay VW, 100% excellent experience. nice guys, couldnt have been easier to go kick some tires. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - JPolen01 - 08-05-2017 Oh we gonna have some MM competition on that car. Ready your weapons gentlemen. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-05-2017 who else wants it? Not enough shiplap & jambags Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - Apoc - 08-05-2017 It was Scott that said he was likely to bid. Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - .RJ - 08-05-2017 i think he's confused its not a miata Re: Project: B7 A4 Avant - *insertusernamehere* - 08-06-2017 I'm glad I'm not the only one that finds these new vws a confusing experience. I think they're great to look at, great to sit in but the actual driving is experience is weird. It's like a PS4 virtual reality. None of the controls have any real feel but it's does everything you ask it to well enough that you're satisfied with the drive but it's not enough to make you think "daaaamn this thing is fun", it's just more like "daaaamn it does what I tell it to and it looks good and is nice to sit in, alright I guess it'll do". It lacks sensation in a pleasurable way and you're still compelled to spend your money on it cause it's overall a good deal. But you're not gonna look back on it and think "man that thing drove so well". It's a classy German appliance that has potential to go fast that causes you no issues with a warranty.
