Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Ken - 03-24-2014 I've never had to add between changes in any of mine... idk maybe it's just me but that would drive me nuts. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-24-2014 SlimKlim Wrote:My TSI has 67k and needs maybe a 1/2qt top off halfway between oil changes... if I remember to do it. An entire quart every 5k does seem a little excessive though. The manual even says it is normal. :/ Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-24-2014 WRXtranceformed Wrote:My CTS needed to have about a quart added between changes which seemed off to me too. According to the user manual it was considered "normal". I remember talking to the Cadillac service reps about it and they had seen several of them come in for engine issues because owners did not heed the manual warnings and didn't check their oil enough. Some of the first DI engines I guess were pretty heavy on the oil blowby / oil being pushed into the intake manifold. After I added the catch can on my car it would catch about 1/8-1/4 of a quart between oil changes that would have otherwise ended up in the intake system. I think that is poor engineering personally because every stock Jap car I ever owned never burned a drop. I think it's up in the air for some cars to burn oil over others. Yeah. I see reports from Cadillacs all over the place too. Unbelievable that the manufacturers say it is normal. No, manufacturer, you just fucked up the design of 100% of them. So yeah, if your gauge of "normal" is that all of the cars exhibit it... Perfectly normal. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-24-2014 I'm currently leaning towards "awesome car, but eff that noise." May begin to look at smaller vehicles since we don't actually need the size yet. Can just get that beater pickup I mentioned when I need to haul shit. Smaller opens up a lot more possibilities and with 0 sales tax here, bouncing between cars as you need them doesn't hurt much. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - SlimKlim - 03-24-2014 I'm surprised the Evo doesn't use any. My neighbor's M6 with 50k miles goes through a quart per change. The M3 has always had a tendency to use up some oil too, I usually top it off once or twice between changes. It actually took 3/4 of a quart last weekend which seemed excessive even for it. I don't think my 325i or Saab used a significant amount between changes. If I do replace my MKV with a low-miles MKVI, I'll probably budget for a catch can to keep the intake from choking up on me (especially after seeing the carnage in mine at 63k), since I'll want to make that car last me quite a while, it'll be interesting to see how fast the thing fills up. Both the 4g63 and 4b11 are pretty solid motors. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - WRXtranceformed - 03-24-2014 I don't know why but I could see you in a Volvo C30 Mike. I saw that was on your original list but I don't remember if you got out and test drove one or not. I saw a white A3 with an S3 body kit and bike racks on it this weekend at the US National Whitewater Center and thought about you actually (it even had S3 badging which I am assuming was added aftermarket because they don't sell those here right?). It looked really nice but I thought I remembered someone saying they sucked. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-24-2014 The C30 is a nice looking car and even so on paper, but it gets DESTROYED in any review ever. Apparently a pretty terrible car. The A3 is an option, but it has the same 2.0 motor (unless you go TDI). Would have to be 2012+ because they fixed the problem that wasn't a problem then. (We don't want to afford a 2012+ A4). The A3 is also the same size as the GTI and IMO has a much worse interior. I think they're making that better in 2015? It's basically a 2005 interior as far as I remember. Ungh. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - SlimKlim - 03-24-2014 Yeah the A3 interior is seriously sucky. I didn't realize how bad until we checked one out for Lauren and it felt worse than my MKV GTI, which is pretty bad on its own. The '15s look nice but are catastrophically overpriced. Unless $30k for no power or features appeals to you. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Apoc - 03-24-2014 The 911 requires oil occasionally, but that's because it leaks it onto the driveway. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Ken - 03-24-2014 RawrImAMonster Wrote:SlimKlim Wrote:I'm surprised the Evo doesn't use any. My interior may look like it was outsourced to LEGO, and if you knock on the door you may leave dent/hear it echo throughout the car; but i'll be damned if I have to add oil every 5K lol Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Evan - 03-24-2014 Have you driven a cx5 yet? Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-24-2014 Not keen on a crossover and they're pricey if you get them optioned. But... since I think we're about to give a Forester a look, we might as well give a CX5 one too. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-28-2014 Starting to look at Bimmers now. Any thoughts on newish 3-series wagons? X3 is a possibility too. Any motors or years to avoid? Re: Help Mikey get to one car - SlimKlim - 03-28-2014 2009+ is the iDrive that doesn't suck. Most of the 35i cars switched over to the N55 in 09-10, which is a single twin scroll turbo instead of twin turbos. I think they're more reliable and the have better driveability and mileage. The 3-series touring only came in naturally aspirated flavor so the turbo would only be an option if you got the X3. The N/A motor is good, and presumably a lot cheaper to own in the long run, but it's 230hp/200ft-lbs and presumably a good bit heavier than your GTI, so you might find yourself driving with a heavier foot than normal. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Goodspeed - 03-28-2014 Mike, just wrap this baby up and you're set - it's in your area to boot. The MS Paint rendering sold me. http://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/cto/4395216245.html Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-28-2014 i've always wanted a lambo too, but i can't deal with that amount of tuck in the rear. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Mike - 03-28-2014 looks like they quit making the touring in 2011? and started again in 2014? ungh. really tough car to find. and pricier than the a4. i'm going to continue trying to convince her that the jetta is what we want ![]() Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Jake - 03-28-2014 Mike Wrote:Starting to look at Bimmers now. Very reliable and in the X3 and 330 it makes 260 hp thanks to a free-er flowing intake manifold. As Joey said, go 2009+ to get iDrive that's usable. Re: Help Mikey get to one car - Sully - 03-28-2014 I saw a f chassis 3 series wagon the other day and ![]() Looked Damn good. Off topic but also just saw a 435 (I think but def a 4) coupe and Damn that was sexy too. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk |
