Re: Automotive News Discussion - fiveoh2go - 03-04-2016

Next gen Mustang production starts May 2020, code named S650

Looks like Ford bumped up their start of production date by almost a year and a half (originally January 2022). I thought they'd milk the S550 for at least two refreshes but I guess it'll only get the '18 MY redo and then the new car debuts a couple years later. :dunno: Cool with me. I'm guessing the S650 finally gets the DI Coyote.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 03-04-2016

Why so early? Only like 5 years? That's half of the usual.

Not sure, I can only assume that this won't be a clean sheet of paper redesign like the '15 MY car was. Prob gonna keep the floor/chassis/powertrain stuff from the S550 with some tweaks. The major changes will be the exterior design and interior. Think 1993 & 1994 Mustang. Exterior design wise those two cars are completely different, but underneath they shared many components.

Deutschland keepin it classy.

"Thanks for 100 years of competition. The previous 30 years were somewhat dull."

"The future presents us with great challenges. We face them with sheer driving pleasure.
Porsche bows to 100 years of moving automobile history and wholeheartedly congratulates BMW on this jubilee."

VW made a real live race car out of the GTI. Produced 20 units, all spoken for, which will be delivered to customer's teams on Friday. 330hp using the Golf-R flavor of the EA888 motor with a more aggressive tune on it. Not much more info on it, like which wheels are driven, just that it has a "proper sequential", comes fully caged w/racing seats already installed, FIA fuel tank, gigantor spoiler and splitter. BUT OMFG LOOK AT THOSE FENDERS.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 03-09-2016

I saw that the other day and was actually pleasantly surprised by the looks. The fenders and ride height are perfect. Reminds me a bit of a DTM car. I like it.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - BLINGMW - 03-09-2016

likely still FWD. :vomit:
Now, Porsche's hat's off to BMW and Clarkson in a lifted Merc? This appeals to my interests.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 03-11-2016

Not really news, but a render of an M2 touring someone made. I'm usually not much of a hatchback/wagon person but this actually works really well. Arguably better than the normal M2 rear end.

Man, if only Mazda was releasing a coupe version at NY Auto Show. Too bad it will just be a power hard top I'm assuming.

Needs four doors. Same with the mustang render. I'd kill someone for that mustang wagon with another set of doors. Even suicide doors for the rears if they have to. I don't get shooting brakes. The whole point of a wagon is convenience.

Am I the only one who kinda likes the panamera. Just saw a matte black one (which not sure I cared for) on the highway and I kinda liked it.

Most successful roadster of all time. Let's make it not a roadster! I don't see why people want a coupe Miata so badly. Without a removable roof, it's just a slow coupe that handles pretty well, i.e FRS. The convertible part is what completes the package.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JustinG - 03-12-2016

Well most enthusiasts (track/autox) prefer a coupe over a vert. Verts are heavier and flex.

First thing I'd do if I bought a miata....remove vert stuff, add hardtop.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 03-12-2016

I understand that, I really do, but adding a hardtop accomplishes most of what people want anyway. 99% of new Miatas are not bought for track purposes or even heavy Auto-X duties, so a removable hard top makes the most sense business wise.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 03-13-2016

I've been reading articles about how JLR has really stepped up its sales game and had a few record months / year in sales, which doesn't surprise me after my ownership and service experience. They have also really stepped up their marketing game. I got this in the mail yesterday. The quality of the paper stock they used is really high. It was wrapped in clear cellophane and the outer packet has this really nice 3D texturing on the Jaguar logo:

[Image: 20160313_091613_zps7sb4wcl5.jpg~original]

These mailers weren't cheap, I'm going to guess about $15-20 each. What I thought was really interesting was how they are directly lining up cars they see as their competition in the ad and showing a features vs. price comparison. They certainly make a pretty compelling argument, especially in the case of the Porsche. I would have never guessed in the past that Jaguar would sell itself on value, but whatever they are doing certainly seems to be working sales wise. There was a final page comparing the XJL to the 740LI.

What I also thought was interesting was there was no mention of an XFR, which it looks like they aren't building anymore! And I didn't realize that they no longer offer the supercharged V8 (or a V8 in general) in the XFs. The most powerful engine you can get is the 380hp version of their V6S. So I am guessing Jag is no longer trying to go after M3 customers as the XFS would probably be a better competitor to the 335i or 335is.

WRXtranceformed Wrote:So I am guessing Jag is no longer trying to go after M3 customers as the XFS would probably be a better competitor to the 335i or 335is.

This is smart, if you ask me. I'm guessing that the M3/4 customer just isn't ever going to consider a jag as an alternative to the "Ultimate Driving Machine" so going after that market is throwing good money after bad. The 335i customer, however, could probably be persuaded that the Jag is more posh, exclusive, and offers the same level of performance. An..."image bargain", maybe.

But Jag isn't gonna poach M customers even with a lower price and better performance. They can't beat Cadillac in that game so they ought not try.

Unf.. That thing is gorgeous . And no, it doesnt need 2 more doors, it is quite perfect.

Seen this a few times and it tugs at my heart strings. Rather have NOT known was possible but wont exist.

They should try a little harder on the "Not blowing up" or the "gas gauges that work" and maybe a little less on the fast?
