Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 02-16-2014 Just bling. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-16-2014 Bling for sure. I guess technically it would also protect the slide finish from wear but I don't think that's why the owner did it Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 02-16-2014 So that's vinyl? Not hydrodip? Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JPolen01 - 02-16-2014 Looks like vinyl. Hydrodip will probably last longer. The finish on most all good pistols is tougher than any chrome or stainless steel finish you'd ever find. Even after the Tenifer process Glock's receive a Parkerized finish. Again, any vinly/paint/hydrodip is purely cosmetic. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 02-18-2014 Finally got around to getting a nightstand safe/lock box. Went with the Stack-On listed below. Bio metric, 4 # code, or key entry. Decided a safe to put in the cabinet of my nightstand was better than a drawer safe. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051GH82G/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1">http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0051G ... UTF8&psc=1</a><!-- m --> It measures approx 14x10x10. I wouldn't trust this to protect against theft unless bolted down. But I decided not to bolt it to my nightstand. It will serve its purpose of keeping little fingers off the pistols. Takes approx 3-5 seconds to get in, using the code or my finger. Stores upto 32 finger prints. Code can be 4 - 8 digits long. Easily holds my FN, Shield, spare mags and a Magpul 30rd. ![]() Looks like some folks replace the 4 AAs in the lock with a 9V lantern battery. We will see how long the AAs last before I wire in a 9V. Time will tell, but initial impressions are good. I'm satisfied with the purchase. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-18-2014 I would strongly recommend bolting it to your floor unless you have a specific objection to it. I sleep a lot better knowing that it would be a royal PITA for a thief to get access to or steal my home defense weapon. On a side note, the long rifle safe is sweeeeeet. Picked up a few motion sensor lights and a rechargeable hygromatic crystal dehumidifier for it on Amazon. The lights were a cheap, effective alternative to an expensive rope wire kit and I can move them around inside after securing them with one side of 3M wall hanging strips (velcro adheres to the interior carpet perfectly. Still got plenty of room in there for the rest of what I have on my long term wish list. Just don't want to drill holes in my night stand.... theft isn't really a concern of mine TBH. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 02-19-2014 I didn't bolt mine down either. The likelihood of my gun ending up as one of the 51981498156819819 already there is low. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - davej - 02-25-2014 Is this how I should 'Murica now that I'm south of the mason-dixon?
Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - ScottyB - 02-26-2014 add about 70 pounds to that guy and you're pretty close. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 02-26-2014 Shouldn't dems be Confederate flags? Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 03-13-2014 So I am strongly considering using some of the tax refund this year to finally pick up a nice O/U so I can shoot skeet / trap with my buddy. I have held several of the Citoris and am leaning toward the 725 Trap w/ adjustable comb. Any other recommendations for shotguns in that price point? This will be used almost entirely for skeet / trap, I doubt I will ever hunt with it but there is a chance that I could go dove hunting with a friend of mine next season. So if it can pull double duty for that, that would be a bonus. Longer is better right? (har) I think I remember hearing you want to go 32" vs. 30" I realize I can get an SX3 for a lot cheaper but a nice over under is something I like the idea of, can get a lot of use out of and pass down to the grandkids someday. Thx~ Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 03-13-2014 WRXtranceformed Wrote:So I am strongly considering using some of the tax refund this year to finally pick up a nice O/U so I can shoot skeet / trap with my buddy. So if it can pull double duty for that, that would be a bonus. Longer is better right? (har) I think I remember hearing you want to go 32" vs. 30" I am a big fan of the ole Belgians. That means either Browning or Winchester. They're sameysame, so get whichever one you can find for the best deal. I personally like the lines of the Cynergy, but to each their own. I'd caution getting the 725 Trap unless you're only gonna shoot Trap. I'd go with the skeet or sporting because the rib is so high on the Trap. That's awesome for trap and terrible for skeet, wobbletrap, and sporting clays. You could also take a look at the Ruger Red Label, a little cheaper but very well made. Finally, if you're a baller, accept no substitutes. edit: Having said all that I'd still go with a wooden SX3 to play games with, especially if I ever had even the remotest inclination to go out into the field after pheasant or chukar or doves. You can always buy a O/U later. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 03-13-2014 ^ Nice thanks bro, that was exactly what I was looking for. Moving away from the Trap model actually saves me some cash too which is nice...I was just under the impression that you could use it for any type of clay target shooting but that makes sense. I wish I could pick up a CG, the walnut on that stock is beautiful. Unfortunately, I have to spend Rolex money on a titanium tooth implant soon. Apparently my rear molar has been rotting below the gumline for years and there was nothing I could have done about it. The dentist is my least favorite place to spend money

Seemed like a good deal for a 1911. I have read mixed reviews on them but they appear to be a decent workhorse model. It is no Kimber, Sig or Springfield though. Any thoughts on this gun? It looked exactly like this:

Depends...what do you want it for? It's a decent entry level 1911, but mostly runs on the "name". IMHO, if you're gonna buy a "cheap 1911" you should buy a Rock Island and if you're gonna buy a nice 1911 you should buy a SIG, and you shouldn't buy anything in between. Besides, 599 seems spendy! A SIG 1911 is only like 200 bucks more, and eleventy times nicer. Also, springfield sucks and kimber sucks and 1911's, in general, are out done by newer guns for much less money. It was a good design for the turn of the 20th century, but it's pretty shit now. |
