JLR is KILLING IT lately

My ownership experience will leave me a lifelong fan. I can't wait to see what madness SVO continues to come out with in the future

Scion going away?

Pretty sure that's just classified as a mercy killing.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 02-03-2016

Not surprising, its like they just gave up on the brand once they realized they weren't actually selling that many cars to the 20-something demographics, but instead of leaning into it like Kia did with the Soul, moving it upmarket so quirky 50-something women can have a heated leather seat on her way to the gardening center, they just kinda... stopped marketed the brand entirely.

I wonder if the current models will be axed or reabsorbed into the Toyota brand. The tC is the modern Celica and it's really not a bad car (it's just not great either), they just finished slapping a Scion badge on a Mazda hatch, and it'd be a shame to see the FRS die.

They are being absorbed into the Toyota brand effective MY17

Gotcha, that makes complete sense then. I dont think anyone interested in one of those cars cares what badge it has on it.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 02-09-2016

Well, that's no fun. Hopefully this doesn't make it through. It would likely kill a large amount of aftermarket mods.

Yeaaaaaaaaah, I'm looking forward to THOSE court cases...

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 02-09-2016

You guys. Seriously. Stop it. This is the 5th time I have seen this stupid shit posted today. It's one sentence in one paragraph. It's a meaningless rider in a much larger bill aimed at medium/heavy duty truck emissions. This will never be enforceable. Stop letting SEMA/every car website/forum around rile you up. You're better than this.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Mike - 02-09-2016

one sentence in one paragraph? as opposed to one sentence in two paragraphs?

you realize the bill of rights is made up of a bunch of single sentences? a sentence can be powerful.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 02-09-2016

Everyone seems to think that one sentence in an EPA Regulations bill is going to ruin the world of motorsports. It's a 700 page document that has to do with emissions from heavy duty trucks. It isn't even clear what the line is even about because there are so many other contradictory phrases. The point I'm trying to make is people have no idea what they are talking about. SEMA and every internet headline is making it out to be that the EPA hates racecars and is going to ban them! Oh no! When in fact the document is not about that at all.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - CaptainHenreh - 02-09-2016

I'm with Jon. It's important to be aware and informed, but this is likely much ado about nothing.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Mike - 02-09-2016

you do know a lot of laws are snuck into seemingly unrelated legislation, right? we call it "politics."

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 02-09-2016

"SEMA submitted comments in opposition to the regulation and met with the EPA to confirm the agency’s intentions. The EPA indicated that the regulation would prohibit conversion of vehicles into racecars and make the sale of certain emissions-related parts for use on converted vehicles illegal. "

No, fuck you, it's an important distinction, for a number of reasons. The EPA is a regulatory agency, and therefore only has authority over a certain scope of activities, designated to them by congress. This isn't a case where some pork got tossed on to the Save The North American Spotted Sloth Owl Act of 2016 as a weird political quid pro quo. In this case, you could submit comments directly to the EPA about this proposed regulation and have them addressed (or not) aaaaaall without involving congress at all. Further, your congress critter has a lot more power (in some cases) to make dumb shit like this go away since he doesn't have to worry about collecting votes to pass (or not) some piece of legislation he wants.

Also, lawsuits against regulations are pretty different, and regulations are way way way more fluid than law. For example, BROTUS could just say "hey I know what this regulation says, but don't enforce it, kthx" and no one can say a word about it.

So there's some more pedantry for you, you may now go back to posting selfies documenting the incremental unbustification of your smug face.
