No safety y0!

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2013

Did you get a V1 or a V3? Or a LEM?

If you got a lem, being a noob, I'd look closer at the ALS. Basically, people put too much pressure on the serpa's release, and then when the gun comes out of the holster, the trigger finger (rather than being indexed along the slide) ends up on the trigger, with that extra pressure. Then guess what happens:

^^That's the only major complaint I've found about the Serpa but as long as you practice and use some general handgun safety practices and don't try to John Wayne your gun out of the holster you'll be fine. I've probably drawn my G19 1,000 times out of my Serpa in practice and never once landed my finger on the trigger until I could see the sights.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 12-19-2013

No argument here, I've drawn my M&P9 from a Serpa a zillion times and never shot myself in the leg.

That said, if the ALS offers the same level of retention, for the same price, but without the risk of some noobsauce (and no offense to Derecola but that's what he is) starting a leak then why not?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 12-19-2013

It's a no-safety V3.

Oh I'm not saying Go Serpa or Go Home. Thumb retention is definantely the safest and most trusted method, I just didn't want to him instantly write off the Serpa because of some bad reviews.

yeah, I wouldn't hesitate to run a serpa with a V3. My USP is a V3, you'd have to really fuck up your draw to cause an ND from a serpa with a V3.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 12-19-2013

The DA trigger pull is pretty heavy. I really have a hard time thinking one could accidentally discharge it without being really stupid.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 12-19-2013

What was the reasoning for wanting to open carry again?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 12-20-2013

WRXtranceformed Wrote:What was the reasoning for wanting to open carry again?

1) I don't have a CPL.
2) Easier to get to in case of need (debatable).
3) Visually dissuade random ne'er-do-wells to move on to the next target (highly debatable).

edit: think hiking/camping in wilderness, not in downtown SEA

You forgot:

4) It's fucking AMERICA, Jack! (not debatable)

Its also a lot more comfortable than IWB/concealed, IMO.

Im shopping for a good OWB for my shield.

Is the general consensus that paddles suck? I dont want to have to thread my belt through it.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 12-20-2013

Shield....love my blade tech eclipse. But you do have to run it through your belt.

I don't care for paddles. We aren't allowed to use them a work but I personally wouldn't use one on my own either. Here's one reason:

Another reason I don't like paddle holsters is if you go to draw your weapon fast sometimes you can pull the entire holster out with it.

Seems like more "Why to be aware of your GD surroundings" then "Why to not use a paddle holster".

I wouldn't say they suck, but they're definitely more "casual" than a belt holster. I prefer belt.

You should always be aware of your surroundings but in an open area with some noise/people someone could walk right up behind you and you'd never know it, snap your paddle and there you are disarmed. At least with it threaded through a belt if they get their hand on your weapon you can grab their hand and you know it isn't going anywhere. That's another reason I also prefer to carry concealed. I carry OWB a lot in the fall/winter with a jacket but the weapon is still covered up.

EDIT: I'll add this. The holster is that video is a cheap ass Fobus holster. If you do choose to carry a paddle holster at least invest the money in a good one like Blade-Tech or Safariland. They won't fail the breakaway test nearly as easily. As for the drawing the holster with the weapon problem some have a clip that once inserted it catches the bottom of your belt to help keep it in place. Just my opinion though, on the belt is the way to go.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 12-20-2013

That "test" also requires you to just kind of stand there like a numbnuts too. You touch my gun, it's you vs me dude. I'm gonna assume you're trying to kill me and fight tooth and nail.

I tried this same testwith my CZ75 fobus a few years ago, and my buddy Dave (not a small dude) couldn't even permanently alter the plastic, much less tear it like a piece of paper as "demonstrated" in the video. I mean, we agree, but I sometimes prefer paddle holsters for range and competition use, because they're so much easier.

I've used the paddle with my Serpa at the range before, but only at the range. If I'm carrying somewhere that has the potential for an altercation or struggle I want my holster securely on my belt. It's just a preference though, carry in a way that is comfortable for you; because if it isn't comfortable you won't carry it for very long.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 12-20-2013

Anyone have experience with open carry while wearing a backpack?

I have a proper backpack with hip straps that I'm wondering if I should consider when buying a holster. I'm not sure if I'll ever really "pack in" somewhere, but I'd hate to buy something for camping and then not be able to use it when I want.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 12-20-2013

Thigh holster?
