Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - G.Irish - 09-01-2011 On the anime tip, the best one I've seen in a long while, and probably the best series I've seen is Death Note. When I first saw it I episode binged and watched all 50+ episodes in about 3 days. I turned my girlfriend on to it and she watched the whole thing in a week. I turned John Chapin on to it and he got hooked. I won't spoil too much, but the basic premise is that there's a book, that if you write someone's name and cause of death in the book, that death befalls them in 1 minute. A very intelligent high school kid gets the book, and decides that he's going to use it to kill all criminals in the world. So he goes on a killing spree and you think, there's no way you can possibly catch someone who only needs to know someone's name to kill them. But the world's greatest detective starts zeroing in on him and a titanic battle of wits ensues. The detective finds more and more inventive ways to try to find the killer, but the killer finds more and more inventive ways of using the book. It's on Netflix, have at it. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 09-01-2011 No flying robots or alien gang bangs? I'm out. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 09-01-2011 I am intrigued. <watching first episode now> Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Evan - 09-01-2011 G.Irish Wrote:But the world's greatest detective starts zeroing in on and a titanic battle of wits ensues. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - G.Irish - 09-01-2011 Evan Wrote:No one knows the real name of the detective. An additional rule of the book is that you have to have the face of the person in mind that you are trying to kill (there are a bunch of other rules but I won't give those away).G.Irish Wrote:But the world's greatest detective starts zeroing in on and a titanic battle of wits ensues. That's actually a very interesting question you ask, because the killer's goal is to rid the world of crime by killing all of the world's criminals. However, if the police are trying to catch you, do you kill them too? Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 09-01-2011 Does it end like Boondock Saints with the detective dressing in drag and helping him kill the main bad guy? Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 09-01-2011 I'm back out. My first-world problem at the moment is that the series is subtitled, so I actually have to watch the TV instead of playing on the laptop at the same time. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 09-01-2011 Watched the first one and I have to admit, I'm intrigued. Unfortunately, my Netflix streaming is going away in a few weeks 'cause I can't justify the cost. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - CaptainHenreh - 09-01-2011 I'll try it after I'm finished with Samurai Champloo... Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - JustinG - 09-04-2011 Watched the first 2 episodes of BSG, and well, F you guys, prepping for divorce as we speak. Great, now Cassie and Casey can bitch to each other about it. Honestly though, into the third season it starts to become actually not that great. Hoping there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I loved the first two seasons, but this third is awful. The fourth season picks back up. I actually was obsessed with BSG. Rex made fun of me, cause I wanted to watch it all the time. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 09-04-2011 3rd season sucks. The 4th definitely picks back up and makes sticking through the 3rd worth it. Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Mike - 09-06-2011 gave death note a shot this weekend. not too impressed by 1st episode, but i'll give it another two or three to be sure it's not for me. haven't been loving much anime lately :/ Re: Guilty pleasures... you know you've got them! - Apoc - 09-06-2011 Apoc Wrote:3 episodes deep into BSG and I'm a convert. I'm 6 episodes from the end, but I watched the first two 90 minute episodes last night (again) because I've been talked it up with my dad and he was curious about it. I remember them being slow, but damn I'm itching to get to the third episode 'cause I remember that's when it clicked for me. Im still about 20 episodes out, but damn 4th season is wayyyy better in the first 3 episodes than all of season 3. |
