Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Evan - 03-02-2011 supposed to be very close to the production car http://www.autoblog.com/2011/03/01/geneva-2011-toyota-ft-86-ii-concept/ Im pretty dissapointed in this. The red concept looked SO much cleaner and classier. but hopefully things like those nasty LED bumper lights (fuck you for that, Audi) and ricer bodykit will get chopped in the production version. Rumor is that the subaru version will be at geneva so we should see that this week too. ![]()
Re: The market is BEGGING.... - D_Eclipse9916 - 03-02-2011 meh, looks like a riced out Genesis coupe. and I hate, I repeat I HATE that wing with all my passion combined. Let's take a look back... :: flashback :: flashback :: flashback :: Best Car -- 2007 Wrote:Within days of announcing Toyota's formation of a "Committee to create interesting cars," this summer's Best Car Plus magazine reveals that the long-rumoured new AE86 type car has indeed been spawned by the group and should be in showrooms in the winter of 2008. So. We doubled the price, as everyone is estimating north of 25,000. Toyota Press Release, 2011 Wrote:Featuring a long, 2,570mm wheelbase, the concept is 4,235mm long, 1,795mm wide and just 1,270mm high. It's also wider, and taller. It's shorter, which is weird, but whatever. It's twice the price and weight is still unknown. Oh yeah, and it's 3 years late. meh. Re: The market is BEGGING.... - ScottyB - 03-02-2011 all that waiting for this? shame. the roofline is bloated, most of the lower cladding looks like an afterthought and the back end has a case of the New Mustangs....big plastic expanse with a giant plastic "diffuser" that looks like a big diaper. i'm getting tired of manufacturers bringing out awesome concepts and then killing the design when they go into production. the subaru version is still RWD, correct? if they can keep their current designers away from it i might be interested. pretty sure these will be double wishbone cars which will be cool. Re: Re: - Evan - 03-02-2011 CaptainHenreh Wrote:So. We doubled the price, as everyone is estimating north of 25,000. haters gonna hate if you thought there was ever going to be a sporty lightweigt rwd coupe for $13k then I have a bridge to sell you. $20k would be a feat, $25k is reasonable and sounds about right. sure beats $33k for a 1 series. 2700 lbs would be an accomplishment, but Im betting it will be 2800-2900. Im ok with that. (and its actually 4 years late) Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Apoc - 03-02-2011 Aside from the overdeveloped chin, I like it. :dunno: Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Evan - 03-02-2011 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:I hate, I repeat I HATE that wing with all my passion combined.those who live in glass houses....  Re: The market is BEGGING.... - WRXtranceformed - 03-02-2011 An industry editor on the Lexus forums is saying that the latest report is that it will be around 2860 lbs., roughly 200hp and priced from $19,995 to $25,000. Seems a little underpowered if that's how it's going to end up....I'd rather look toward a Genesis Coupe if I was in the market for that kind of car. Re: Re: - G.Irish - 03-02-2011 Evan Wrote:Yeah I was gonna say that. I mean really, what car today costs $13k? A Kia maybe. There is no way in hell they could've made this car at that price unless Toyota suddenly changed into a charity.CaptainHenreh Wrote:So. We doubled the price, as everyone is estimating north of 25,000. I think Toyota did go a bit overboard with the styling. Before it looked clean but now it's a bit overwrought and riced out. Still not bad per se, but not as good as it looked before. I still think they'll sell a lot of them, nothing really like it on the market right now. Re: Re: - Kaan - 03-02-2011 Evan Wrote:CaptainHenreh Wrote:So. We doubled the price, as everyone is estimating north of 25,000. $20-25K... just make it simple. but thats not possible anymore. everything must have navigation, leather seats, 12 speaker sound system, 20 inch wheels from the factory (to fit tiny "track" brakes), they love back seats, cup holders, computer controled everything, etc. i guess there is no real market for a pure "basic" sports car. it doesnt even need to have HP from the factory, just some potential. and who cares about safety raitings? Granted, you can get a lot more power out of a turbo rather easily but stock for stock the FT-86 will probably have comparable performance. Assuming the suspension is not tuned El Dorado soft. Re: The market is BEGGING.... - Apoc - 03-02-2011 FWIW... Weight/Power Genesis Coupe - 16.1 Legacy - 14.5 My 944 - 14.4 FT86 - 14.3 TL Type S - 14.0 I think we've been conditioned to think anything under 250 isn't enough. I know I have. Re: The market is BEGGING.... - WRXtranceformed - 03-02-2011 What about the 3.8L V6 version of the Genesis Coupe? Re: The market is BEGGING.... - G.Irish - 03-02-2011 The V6 Genesis Coupe weighs about 3400 lbs so it's weight/power ratio is 11.1. It starts at $25k though. Re: The market is BEGGING.... - WRXtranceformed - 03-02-2011 My car is slow Hopefully this Jpipe will help out a bit
Re: Re: - CaptainHenreh - 03-02-2011 Evan Wrote:haters gonna hate Uh, I never thought that. But If you ask me, this is a FAIL. 25k? for this? And I'm not buying the faster, more spacious, larger aftermarket WRX because....? Great, a RWD tC. Just what the world was fucking BEGGING for. None of you fuckers is going to trot to the Toyota lot and buy one of these brandy new. Not a single one of you. And that is why it will FAIL. Here's another reason why it's a fail: 4 years? 4 years from rumor to this, when they didn't have to do any drivetrain development? C'mon. It's bullshit. Carroll Shelby could have designed, prototyped, and built this car in 3 months. In a cave. With a box of scraps!
