The new turbo one would be interesting to drive.

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - HAULN-SS - 01-19-2012

My neighbor, a 50 something woman, just bought one. It seems like the weirdest combo I could think of.

As a side note, between her and her husband they have a new car every 6 months, so it may not last long, but nothing does in their driveway.

IMO Veloster makes no sense when is the new Rio5 is the same car but looks better, is better optioned, (UVO is pretty awesome) and has 4 real doors

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - Apoc - 01-19-2012

Your opinion is incorrect. The Rio5 is ugly. The Veloster is hot.

I'm glad Rexy no likey the Veloster, 'cause I really want one... on paper.

I don't want the non-turbo. It's basically an Accent with a new body. Let's see how the Turbo one does. Right now, I think the NA version has looks that aren't backed up by the performance.

What, you don't want to drive a large mouth bass?

Never mind. Figured if you were looking at the volester (which is really a coupe with an awkward extra door), you might be game on the genesis. Excuse my prior post.

It's not a bad suggestion, it just does not suit my needs. For the record, the veloster didn't either...

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - Evan - 01-19-2012

sounds like a WRX would fit your needs precisely......

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - WRXtranceformed - 01-24-2012

Rented a brand new 328i in Scottsdale for the drive today on Beeline Highway up to Snowflake. One of my favorite roads in the US, I will report back!

Supposed to snow in the mountains though!

Re: Rental Car Ruckus 2: Electric Boogaloo - Kaan - 01-24-2012

Last week Sylvia and I were at ShotShow 2012 in Vegas... we decided to rent a car so we could drive to hoover dam and the grand canyon. my toyota tercel was "upgraded" to the dodge avenger because the tercel passenger seat was soaked with water (i hope it was just water).

We got 30mpg on the highway (80mph for 4 hours at a time)... it was comfortable, except the drivers seat most upright position was still a gangsta lean. the trunk had a ton of space and the back seat was comfortable too.

everything was great on the car... except the motor. what a slow turd of a motor. there are several metered entry ramps around vegas and you fear for your life merging from a stop in this car.

next year, depending on how many people come (i'm looking at you rex)... i might shoot for the CTS-V

The car:

The amazing stretch of highway (I couldn't even take pics of the best parts, I was too busy carving it up going well over the speed limit)

Ok, ok, ok. I see what all the BMW fanbois are on about...a little. Even though I got to drive Ben's 2010 M3 over the Christmas break and knew I would be jaded, I was pleasantly surprised.

The pros: Obviously "good" handling, surprisingly capable engine although it needed to be strung out at bit to get going, rental had navigation that worked fine, seat was comfy for 6 hours of driving, amazing gas mileage considering I was flogging the shit out of the car up and down the mountain...I still have a quarter tank left to get me to the rental car place.

The cons: The "good" handling is way too twitchy, it's almost too much of a driver's car for me (if that makes sense). It did not seem as well balanced as my CTS which surprised me, but apparently the CTS has almost perfect weight distribution so that could be why. The engine, while capable especially in sport shift mode, definitely ran out of breath on the uphills and at higher altitudes. I would imagine the turbocharged / M versions of this car would be insane on those roads. The way you navigate navi / sound functions is completely retarded in those cars and counterintuitive.

When I first started pushing the car through the curves, my first thought was "dang, maybe I should have test driven a BMW"...until I got a few hours into the drive and realized that my CTS probably would have been wayy more competent, torquey, comfortable and better handling (especially once I get better tires on it). I have gotten used to the heavy, commanding, solid road presence of the Caddy.
