UPDATE:

The official tune date is set right now for Monday, October 2nd up at Altered Atmosphere in Gaithersburg. Some minor things will be done to the car at Andrewtech beforehand.

Just to get this out there, this car as it is right now is not going to put down record breaking numbers. I've sort of known this all along, but was hoping for more than what I've come to expect.

After talking with Andrew and Phil quite a bit, I'm simply not willing to put several thousand more into this car (aka the fuel system) in order to see what it will produce on pump gas. Although both of these guys have been generous with me on pricing, I'm simply tired of dumping money into this thing. I have no sponsors, nobody is stepping forward to help out financially, and I'd rather keep my head where it needs to be and start seriously saving for bigger things in the future.

It gets to the point where you have to draw the line, and I just didn't see an end in sight as to the money that I needed to dump into this thing to let it live up to its potential. It could happen in the future, but I'm looking to switch directions right now and put this car on the backburner. This motor will certainly have plenty of room to grow if I decide to go with the HydraMist or a bigger fuel setup down the road!

The car will be tuned on flow-matched 850cc injectors and a single walbro fuel pump. I'm going to try to pick up some race gas as well, just for shits and giggles.

If anyone is interested in going, maybe we can carpool up or something (especially since my STi is already going to be up there). I know some of the NASIOC guys are down, if anyone else wants info, PM me or something ^_^

i sure as hell am down, about what time are we talkign abotu though?

- D_Eclipse9916 - 09-21-2006

only 850s and a single walbro????

How much are you expecting to put down? I know for my car thatll only put down about 500-600whp and thats pushing it.

I kinda sorta hate to post this, but I have a couple buddies in the 3000gt/Stealth (cars that Altered used to be pretty big into) world that recommend against Altered. I just asked him what he thought and here's what he replied:

Quote:Uggg. Altered is bad. Blown up more cars that I can count. But they seem to have luck on 350s. Not sure about subbies. I wouldn't worry if he's just going there for pulls, but letting them do the tuning is something I would only recommend to my worst enemy.

Anyway, I don't want to make you second guess your decision, but I wanted to share.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-21-2006

Altered isn't tuning it, Phil @ Element Tuning is just borrowing their dyno to tune it. I've also heard bad things about Altered, I wouldn't let them touch my car. Phil is an awesome tuner, so I have no worries there.

Yep, just a single Walbro. The custom fuel setup necessary to push this motor costs $300 alone for just the surge tank, plus another couple hundred dollars for the SS fuel lines and fittings, some custom fab work to mount it in the car, with installation costs being estimated around $800. AND, that's just the fuel pump system. THEN the injectors must be switched to larger top feeds, the fuel rails have to be switched out...

Do you see where I'm going with this? When do the costs end? The motor should put down some decent, very safe power as it is, and at the least it will have plenty of room to grow if I decide to go to a Hydramist setup or upgrade the fuel system. For right now, I'm sick of throwing money at it and would much rather enjoy the car.

Plus, it's really time to start putting a good chunk of money aside for a house. This thing has to take a backburner to that for a while.

UPDATE!

This Monday, October 2nd... Altered Atmosphere in Gaithersburg, MD @ 2:00PM is the scheduled tune time. Phil may do the road tune before or after, I dunno... but I'll probably be up at Andrewtech around noon until whenever. So if anyone wants to meet there, that's where we'll be ^_^

- JustinG - 10-02-2006

hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe im just gonna say it did pretty good Confusedhock:

- HAULN-SS - 10-02-2006

why dont you say what it really did ;x

- JustinG - 10-02-2006

cause that is Lees responsibility, im not gonna ruin it for him

- WRXtranceformed - 10-03-2006

456awhp / 400 torque on 93 octane @ 18psi

556awhp / 503 torque on 5 gallons of 110octane mixed with 1/8 tank 93!!!

I'll try to get the chart up when I get a copy.

Phil said the number he thought for the race tune was actually 565, since the original was corrected or something.

- ScottyB - 10-03-2006

Confusedhock:

assuming 20% driveline loss, that is engine is throwing down some disgusting firepower! nice!

i'd love to see the power curve of that big 2.8

- CaptainHenreh - 10-03-2006

Holy shit.

- Nis01 - 10-03-2006

Lee.. that is unreal. Can't wait to see that thing in action. Glad to hear the numbers came out so impressive.
