- HAULN-SS - 03-19-2006 Where's the rest of the bearings? - Jeff - 03-19-2006 huh? Isn't the better questions "Where are the other 4 pistons?" BTW I forgot to mention I just sold those ugly-ass stock wheels for $180!!!! Nick and I intalled them on the guy's.....01 NEON!!!!!! LO FIN' L The quote for the day: "Those wheels look PHAT" - Jeff - 03-22-2006 Got my Taft cam paid for today. Taft makes re-ground roller cams with higher lift and all that. This is an S2 cam, which is a roller version of the old S60 slider. I am doing a modern S60 package on the car so this is a must. SPECS- 270/259 duration at .006 tappett lift on the intake/exhaust 470/450 gross valve lift on the intake/exhaust centerline ![]() Best part? USED $100 - HAULN-SS - 03-22-2006 you bought a used cam? I hope the lifters and rods that were broke in with it came with that too - JohnC - 03-22-2006 HAULN-SS Wrote:you bought a used cam? I hope the lifters and rods that were broke in with it came with that too I've been reading the "Engine Builder's Handbook", by Tom Monroe, and I could've sworn it said that as long as you use new lifters/pushrods with a used cam (in good condition), you're fine. Its using old lifters/rods that causes trouble... Of course, I don't remember why. - HAULN-SS - 03-22-2006 I'm sure it's do-able, i've just never trusted myself enough to buy a used cam. V8 cams anyway are so cheap, and the kits with lifters can be had for 130ish bucks usually, I wouldnt wanna skimp out on it, especially if the rest of my motor was in good shape. - Jeff - 03-22-2006 The cam itself is like 250 new, the kit is 325 or something both prices with a core. There are no pushrods etc. as this is a SOHC motor. The rockers are interchangeable. The lifters come with it, but the shims don't. The people who sell the cam new said they would just give me a set of lifter shims for free. So I'm not worried about it, I have a really good set of rockers waiting for it. - HAULN-SS - 03-23-2006 hrmmm...kinda weird how the price for that is so jacked up. +1 for there being 2534562362375347 small blocks in the world that all need cams - ScottyB - 03-23-2006 i can't wait to see this project on the road, it sounds better all the time. - Mike - 03-23-2006 ScottyB Wrote:it sounds better all the time. yeah as long as you ignore the "daytona" part. - Jeff - 03-23-2006 Thanks Scotty!! As far as the price of the cam...they are a custom made thing. FWDP had taft make them. They are the only one who sells them so they charge a HUGE price for them. When I called Cindy at FWDP and told her I was looking at one used she told me that if I decided not to buy it she would!!! They are low on stock right now. - Jeff - 03-23-2006 Mike Wrote:ScottyB Wrote:it sounds better all the time. H8tr  - ScottyB - 03-23-2006 Mike Wrote:as long as you ignore the "daytona" part. i do, my attention is fully on the big turbo and shiny pretty bling parts
- Andy - 03-23-2006 I don't know if I like Jeff and Derek bitching about a 250 dollar cam. The crower cams on my prelude were 800 bucks. The springs and valves were like 400-500 bucks. - Jeff - 03-23-2006 Andy Wrote:I don't know if I like Jeff and Derek bitching about a 250 dollar cam. The crower cams on my prelude were 800 bucks. The springs and valves were like 400-500 bucks. DOCH rigs are always more expensive, for obvious reasons. The cost of the new cam did not bother me I just wasn't going to get one unless this deal came along. My springs, valves, keepers, seals, and all other valve related stuff cost me $245. The cam cost me onle $100. The head I am using I paid $75 for, and sold the turbo that came on it for $150. So I call it free. So the whole valvetrain for the car cost $345. Not something I am gonna worry about. 8) After all...I only have 8 valves, you had what? 24? - Andy - 03-23-2006 TurboOmni08 Wrote:Andy Wrote:I don't know if I like Jeff and Derek bitching about a 250 dollar cam. Jesus christ, you know as much about Honda as I know Dodges. 4cyl x 4valves = 16 valves though 24 would have been sweet. I could've used the extra 8 for my Nawz setup - Jeff - 03-23-2006 LOL! I guess 24 valves would need to be a V6...stupid me...lol. yes a 4 banger with two cams, or a well designed SOHC would be 16 valve. I live in an 8V world... - Jeff - 03-26-2006 The cam came in today. looks great! By just looking at it it looks like the old one...lol...I will compair when I can find the stocker in all our junk. A few of the lifters are harder to depress and don't go down as far as others and there are some grooves around the last surface that sets against the cam plug. These things worry me but I'm sure it is ok. Gonna call and bitch out turbosunleashed to get my order in the mail monday. I will demand a refund if they can't get it on the way by wed...damn it. - JustinG - 03-26-2006 sounds good......i can hear the turbo spooling already
- Jeff - 03-28-2006 So I called turbosunleashed today. They don't have my pistons in stock at this point. They didn't return a call or an e-mail and the only way I got to talk to him today is I woke him up. Its 9:30 over there right now and the guy sounded half asleep turning his computer on to tell me what the deal is. Then when I tried to ask him another technical question he danced around an answer then the phone dropped out....no call back. After getting good and pissed I called him back. Same poor, quiet, tired sounding bullshit. Not only that when I told him I got a cam sold by another vendor I got a rather sharp "that was a poor choice, the OEM cam works extremely well and maintains idel quality you will loose with THAT cam." Then I tried to talk to him about ECUs and at one point I thought he fell asleep on me and I had to ask "are you ok over there? Did I catch you at a bad time?" I dunno what to think... |
