I actually met that guy at one of the liquor stores in Harrisonburg.  He was giving out free samples there as well and I tried them out.

The fresh herb one tastes a lot like weed.  Hence the 42.0% abv.  While I was in there some girl tried it and started smilingly.  He's just like "Oh, does that taste like something familiar to you?"

You had such potential, but then you showed up with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry....

So.... just about finished with my current bottle of bourbon (1792 full proof), what (bourbon) should I buy next?

RE: MM Speakeasy (The Spirits Thread) - JustinG - 08-13-2018

I really enjoyed a bottle of Glenfiddich 14 Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve not too long ago if you wanna try some scotch.

Quote:Released in Spring 2010, this Glenfiddich Rich Oak has spent 14 years in ex-bourbon casks in the traditional way, before two separate finishes of 12 weeks in new European oak and six weeks in new American oak before bottling.

90 Points Wine Enthusiast - Aged 14 years in former Bourbon barrels, this is an amber-colored whisky that's scented with vanilla and peach. The palate is also peachy, highlighted by hints of almond, oak and sandalwood. The finish is drying and lightly spiced.

Was introduced to Clase Azul tequila recently on a work trip - am now convinced tequila is not the devil's brew and can be very delicious. Came home immediately to buy a bottle.

RE: MM Speakeasy (The Spirits Thread) - rherold9 - 08-14-2018

Decided we needed to start filling the liquor cabinet yesterday.

We now have:

Luksusowa Vodka
Tito's Vodka
Bulleit Rye
Casamigos Blanco
Bacardi Ocho
Malibu
Triple Sec

Obviously need some more but for now this will do for a bit

The Bacardi and Malibu I got for making a hybrid drink. The rest should be pretty obvious for their purpose. A mix of a sunrise + dark and stormy. Malibu->Orange/Pineapple Juice->Bacardi->Orange Wedge

Made a marg tonight and had Cabell taste it. Don't think he wanted to drink tonight but he made one immediately after... 3oz Casamigos, 1 oz Triple Sec, 1 oz sweetened lime juice. Enjoy. I will admit this tastes better than expected

When in Kentucky, find Rabbit Hole... if you like a smooth sweet bourbon.

This is interesting to me.  I love bourbon...... However, I learned last weekend at SML that I perhaps shouldn't drink an entire bottle at a time.  I mean, I have no real recollection of that Friday night.  No hangover though.  So there's that. Big Grin

I've been hearing that people like this. Might have to give it a shot this weekend.

It’s good. Too sweet to get rowdy on, but good for drinking while you grill or mow.

RE: MM Speakeasy (The Spirits Thread) - Ryan T - 09-27-2019

Any Rye whiskey drinkers in here? That’s turned into my go to whiskey. My coworker told me about Sazerac Rye, which is from Buffalo Trace Distillery, that has won the number 1 budget friendly rye whisky lately. I went to the ABC store today and they had one bottle left. The clerk told me they got 8 bottles that morning and I got the last one (about 4:30pm). It’s only $29.99 for a 750ml and it is really good. A little bite up front but a smooth spice and licorice finish. I normally keep Bulleit Rye in my decanter (and still have some left), but if I can consistently find this it would be my go-to.

My wife and I have been through the bourbon trail between Lexington and Louisville twice in the last two months and hit a bunch of stops on the bourbon trail. I highly recommend that trail as a long weekend trip that you schedule in advance. So far Woodford Reserve was the coolest tour, but we would like to do a full on tour of all of them sometime in the future. If anyone in MM is interested in taking 3 days and planning out a big tour for a bunch of us to hit all the best places on the tour, I’d be in.
