Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - *insertusernamehere* - 04-06-2018 YEEESSSSSS I love this congratulations man! I can't wait to see it sometime soon, the car looks really good, I can tell you're happy and I think I like these in red the most tbh Side note, it really bothers me that the ramps on the delivery truck were two different lengths. Sent from my FRD-L04 using Tapatalk RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - Apoc - 04-07-2018 God damnit... I've already spent enough money on cars in the last few weeks. Now I have to buy the ODBII and app... RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - WRXtranceformed - 04-07-2018 Congrats dude!! Looking great!! You have to be stoked to not be driving an appliance anymore! Quick word of warning on the headlight laminx: don't be too liberal with the hair dryer / heat gun when you do it. I got some micro cracks in my TL headlights the first timei tried it. Just go easy RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - .RJ - 04-07-2018 where's the jambag go? looks awesome. dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune dinan tune yas? You have to be stoked to not be driving an appliance anymore! Be EXTREMELY careful if you use heat. I watched someone crack a 911 turbo headlight lens with too much heat. That was painful to watch. Can only imagine what that headlight cost. Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 04-07-2018 Yea, the more I look at the headlights and their curvature, I'm thinking I'll just not worry about the LaminX. Maybe I'll get someone to do it. I'd just like to keep em safe from rock chips. I think it's a good call to not tint them. Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 04-07-2018 Nah, just me being anal about a car I actually like. I didn't do it on the GSX or the Fozzy, and they were fine. Knock on wood. I need to see this in person. #carenvy I need next year to get here quicker, haha. RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - Jake - 04-07-2018 Love. It. Yes, BMW dealers tend to wash the car when you leave it with them. Part of the whole lugggggggsury-car-ownership thing ![]() Re: grills, do whatever is stock but in black. I guess that'd be single slat. Anything else looks 100% like a cheap Chinese knockoff. RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - WRXtranceformed - 04-07-2018 Yeah if you're going to do the headlights it's probably worth it to pay a tinter who also does clearbras to do it. I've done the headlights on two cars with a LaminX style before and they turned out fine but for a nicer car like yours I would use the stuff that's not too thick. The heat from the headlights can cause issues with thicker plastic wraps. If you remember, I had the headlights on the Jag professionally done but it was a PITA for the guy to do even as a pro. Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 04-07-2018 Yea, I may see if the tinter I'm going too does clear bras as well. RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - Steve85 - 04-07-2018 Congrats on the delivery! Looks great, a little jelly of that wheel finish, a better look than the standard silver. I need that bimmercode, ///M all the things! Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 04-09-2018 Still love it... Been tinkering a bit. I wanted to enable the rear fog light. I distinctly remember being behind an Audi headed up Afton mountain one time during one of it's fog shit show evenings headed home to JMU for a football game. The rear fogs were very helpful vs other cars parking lights. You could actually see him as you came up on him. So, I'm not against 20 minutes of my time and adding some safety. So I followed this guide: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=877278 The switch is the same as the euro switch, butbis has a blank below the front fog button. This blank is just missing the label and has tabs preventing the button from being pushed in. So you remove the 3 little tabs preventing the button from being pushed with a razor blade, Dremel whatever. I was able to remove em with a fresh razor blade. 2 tabs near the front edge: ![]() 1 tab: ![]() Removed: ![]() ![]() Coded and tested... Yellow Rear fog light icon illuminates in the dash ![]() Inboard lights are brighter. Off: ![]() ![]() On: ![]() ![]() I also got around to wrapping a couple of trim pieces. I think they turned out great, time will tell how well the wrap handles the heat. Working with vinyl is way easier with heat. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I need to run grab a trim removal kit so I can get the center console trim and door handles off. Last but not least, I wanted to update my nav. So I hit up the contact here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1161561 $50 later I was emailed a Google drive Link with the necessary files and emailed the code and a how to. The FSC code is like the license code. The maps are readily available to download, but can't be loaded to the car without the FSC code. So now that I have the code, I can DL the latest maps from numerous sources, and reuse the FSC code. All that's needed is a 64gb thumb drive formatted to fat32.
RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JPolen01 - 04-09-2018 Carbon wrap looks good. Can't tell what you did with the lights. Maybe it's the photos or I don't know what I am looking for? Maybe it's the photos or I don't know what I am looking for? There is a bulb behind the horizontal lights on the actual hatch. Rear fog on, those bulbs illuminate, to almost Brake light brightness. RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JPolen01 - 04-09-2018 Got it. Just your poor photo skillz then! Much easier to see the difference here: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=877278]https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=877278 Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - JustinG - 04-09-2018 Yup RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - ScottyB - 04-09-2018 dude that wrap came out looking pro. love it. i used the rear fog on my A4 a lot...it was only on one side, but makes a marked difference in truly soupy fog. good call to enable that "freebie" kind of mod. RE: Project: AWD Turbo Family Hauler (PART DEUX) - davej - 04-09-2018 The wrap came out really nice, great job! I don't get the rear fog thing, was it blocked off because it's included in an upmarket package, or is it some US regulation thing? I think it'd have to be more cost effective to just give them all the same feature unless they were trying to charge extra for it. |
