LOL...we had this conversation with our driver, almost verbatim. i think he just punched in our address and took the directions as step by step vs an actual road map.

"how do i get back on main road?"
"just drive straight. the neighborhood's a big loop"
"yes OK but where can i turn?"
"see how the road goes? just keep driving. its a loop"
*looks down road, looks back at me, furrows brow*
"OK i try, this is road going around *makes circle shape hand motion*"
"bye"

carrier drivers must have the least stringent CDL requirements on the planet

I guess by that logic, my wife could be a car delivery driver. she gets lost if she gets beyond a mile from the house.

Yet another reason why I want to start an auto transport business. Feel like you don't mess up people's cars and you keep them posted on when their car will actually arrive and you'll be the best auto transport in the country.

Damn, how big is your kitchen? I thought you had a townhouse.

Scotty, your writing never fails to entertain and that sounds like a super fun trip! I saw a Civic in your blue the other day and really like how it looks up close.

Car shipping is such a shitty process. When I sold Henry's AMG, it went to Austin Texas in an enclosed transporter. The driver was supposed to arrive on a Thursday "between 1 and 4 PM" so I stayed home from work to meet him. Finally, I called him at 5 PM. "Oh, I'm in Greenwich, Connecticut, I missed the dealer that sold this other car and he's closed now." Wow, thanks for letting me know. He showed up Friday at 4:30 PM.

right? the standards seem to be so low it would be the easiest investment of all time. your marketing could just be "We can drive a truck from point A to point B in a predictable fashion in exchange for your money. Therefore we are the best"

thanks man and yeah, by all these accounts its nice to know that we didn't experience an outlier. i guess if i ever ship a car its going to be a pretty well researched process because its amazing that all these shippers are so inept.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - .RJ - 08-07-2018

if you ever ship the car, just let jesus take the wheel and crack a beer. no amount of getting rustled changes the process.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - JPolen01 - 08-07-2018

The biggest problem is that these guys do not understand how traffic works and they overbook themselves. They are only allowed to drive 13 hours per day (I believe) per DOT. Once they realize they aren't going to make it to you by the time they run out of hours they just say fuck it and wait until they are out of driving hours to call you. Once they tell you they are out of hours there is nothing you or anyone else can do but wait. They work the system.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - Apoc - 08-07-2018

There is no incentive to actually give a shit because, while aggravating, it doesn't seem to cost them business. It doesn't cost them money and it's not like competition is all the high. They have the supply, we have the demand. The more expensive boutique companies are more reliable, but you pay for that.

our guy made it from AZ to MD in like 2 days.  he showed up 2 days ahead of schedule!  i have no idea how you drive a truck that far, with other deliveries, inside of 3 days.

we drive with these guys out on the roads every day too...makes you wonder what how much of their blood is just raw drugs and uppers.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 08-08-2018

saw this and laughed, but it hit a little close to home after the shipping shenanigans

seems no matter what you budget is, you might get bent over a barrel with car shipments.

Wow....

Makes me want to fly and pick up the car myself (if I ever buy an our-of-state car after hearing those stories... Granted, I don't really have a need for super approximate delivery times, but still...

i honestly can't wait to do this some day.  one of the only times i can make a legit excuse that i need to tour the country for a week in a new car.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - JPolen01 - 08-08-2018

I spent about an hour and half watching Vinwiki last night. Pretty addicting.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - ScottyB - 08-08-2018

yeah my productivity today has been demolished. i'm such a sucker for a great car story.

i really love Rabbit (the guy that looks like Redneck Guy Fieri), i've lived in his area so its even more fun reminiscing how much i recognize some of his stomping grounds that he goes on about.

Why are you doing graphic design? Write a book, I'll read it and I barely read

I've bought two cars in Connecticut and flew to get them.. It's way less stressful, and usually cheaper, if you have half a day to do it.

Flight ($200+$300) + uber + gas+tolls + time, for me, isnt worth a $500-600 shipping bill.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - Apoc - 08-09-2018

A handful of east coast states is fine, but there was no way I was driving the 911 2400 miles back from Ohio. Gas alone would have been 1/3 the price to ship it.

I did make the mistake of requesting a bunch of quotes. I can confirm the annoying, repeated calls mentioned in the video is accurate.

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - .RJ - 08-09-2018

never got a single spam call/email from uship

RE: You're My Boy, Blue - WRXtranceformed - 08-09-2018

Crazy man...my XFR came on an open trailer shipping truck from Wisconsin and it showed up dirty obviously but flawless. I must have been one of the lucky ones!
