Re: Project Shaguar XFR - WRXtranceformed - 06-23-2014 Jake Wrote:Love it!!Ahhhhh dude don't tempt me!! The want is strong to be completely irresponsible, cash out some retirement and order an FTR in white I *may* or may not have launched it last night. Whoa ho ho...definitely grippier  Got a healthy little "screetch screetch", some tire smoke, looked down and was going faster than I should have been. Red wheel center caps should be here Thursday. I picked up a suction cup because I read that you can pull them with one without pulling the wheels ...unfortunately mine didn't work. I have a jack / stands in my garage, I was just hoping it would be a quick 10 minute swap and not an hour long sweatfest in the summer heat this weekend. My wheels got dirty from the tire install so it will give me an opportunity to clean the insides of them I guess! I think they will make a big difference, especially with the front badge being red now. Edit: Oh and how was the FTR??? Please tell me it is all I have heard it is and more Re: Project Shaguar XFR - Maengelito - 06-23-2014 WRXtranceformed Wrote:I saw the tech who I have befriended in the back huhuhuhuh I've got nothing more to add except that this car looks badass. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - Jake - 06-23-2014 WRXtranceformed Wrote:Edit: Oh and how was the FTR??? Please tell me it is all I have heard it is and more So I rolled up in the M3, which I guess made the guy believe I had half a clue about driving. Regardless, I still didn't want to be entirely wild 'n' crazy since it had been raining off and on, and 550 hp is... substantial. At 30% throttle, it pulls pretty hard. At 70% throttle, the back end got squiggly until I got to 3rd gear. We just did a few miles up and down the one street, no chance to really feel out the handling. Interior is a really nice place to spend time. The ZF 8-speed auto is good and can click off fast shifts in Sport mode, whether you use the paddles or let it do things automagically. My opinion of the ZF 'box depends entirely on how it's been tuned by whichever OEM. I loved it in the M235i and only liked it in the FTR. Jaguar hasn't tuned it to rev-match as aggressively or shift as crisply as BMW has. That said, there was a button with a checkered flag on it near the shifter that I never pressed. So, although I had the gearbox in Sport, part of me wonders if there is an additional "win the race" mode that would change the shift behavior even further, or what all that button really re-maps. Suspension, maybe? If I were seriously in the market for a car of that price and caliber, I'd go give it a more serious look. It's gorgeous (the one I drove was silver on black) and seems to be a good performer. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - WRXtranceformed - 06-23-2014 Jake Wrote:Nice! Yeah the flag is "Dynamic" mode, which Jag is kind of vague on its purpose. I drive with this on almost entirely, it seems to give better throttle response and steering and suspension seems to react quicker. Here is what the manual says about Dynamic Mode:WRXtranceformed Wrote:Edit: Oh and how was the FTR??? Please tell me it is all I have heard it is and more Quote:DYNAMIC MODE Dynamic + Sport mode which you were in is the most aggressive way to drive the car without adjusting the traction control. From there you can dial it up to TRAC DSC for a little less nannying or DSC OFF which I have personally never done because I am nervous about wadding it up somewhere. I agree about the transmission, I have the ZF 6 instead of the 8 speed and especially in Sport/Dynamic mode the shifts are pretty dang quick. Dan can probably speak to it too since he got to drive it. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - Jake - 06-23-2014 Well it's a good thing I didn't press the button, then. Given the damp/slick roads, the power, and my lack of familiarity with all of it, I needed my traction controlled. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - WRXtranceformed - 06-23-2014 Did yours have the Active Exhaust button? I have been wanting to hear it in person, I have only heard it in videos so far for the V8 version. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - Jake - 06-23-2014 It did, but I think I forgot to press it. Sounded good regardless though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Re: Project Shaguar XFR - ScottyB - 06-23-2014 funny, i actually saw my first f-type 'vert in the flesh a few days ago when i was walking the kiddo around. i was preoccupied with thinking of something or other and it really surprised me because i never expected to see something like that come through our street . i actually heard it coming about 75 feet behind me, then i turned to see wtf i was hearing as it went by and immediately adjusted my pantaloons to hide le boner. it was dark cherry red and sounded....just angry. angry that it wasn't being allowed to run amok and smote lesser vehicles. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - WRXtranceformed - 06-29-2014 Swapped out the black OEM center caps for the red ones I got on Ebay. I got crafty and used Command velcro strips to easily pop them out without having to sweat in my garage taking the wheels off. Pretty impressed with the knockoffs actually, they were almost dead identical to the OEM ones...both made in Italy. Here is the final product: OEM on the right, Ebay knockoff on the left: ![]() ![]() ![]() If you are bored and want to read the whole writeup on how I did it with more pics, here it is! http://m.jaguarforums.com/forum/showthr ... ost1005213 Looks soooooo much better. It was such a subtle change but made a huge difference in the look. Just a few final touches and I will be done with this car

Nobody was hurt fortunately, it was a pretty low speed impact but the guy behind me never stopped while I was in front of him at a stoplight. ![]() In an attempt to turn lemons into lemonade, I am going to see if I can get my bumper replaced with a 2012+ bumper with diffuser since they're pretty much the same price. That would check one mod off of my list. Fortunately I got a good lead on a solid body shop here, most local exotics are taken there for work and it is the only shop in the Charlotte area that is capable of working on all aluminum bodies (like in the S8). Will update after I get a chance to talk to them next week! Re: Project Shaguar XFR - davej - 07-03-2014 oh man, that's the worst feeling when you see them not stopping and know what's going to happen. glad nobody was hurt and you might get a free mod out of it! Re: Project Shaguar XFR - ScottyB - 07-03-2014 davej Wrote:oh man, that's the worst feeling when you see them not stopping and know what's going to happen i know that feeling all too well, twice. sorry man, sounds like a sweet new bumper is en route! Re: Project Shaguar XFR - WRXtranceformed - 07-03-2014 Ahh thanks guys. Yeah when I saw him coming in the rear view I knew he wasn't going to stop in time. I had nowhere to go and just braced for impact basically. But I kept a surprisingly cool head, older wiser and full of the Spirit I suppose If you drive a car everyday it's pretty much a matter of time that something is going to happen to it...especially with the craziness of drivers down here.I've been staring at XFR rear ends for the last half hour (haha) and man, they look seriously similar. I spoke with a Jag parts department and although he couldn't confirm whether or not the '12+ bumper would fit with no issues, he did say that the brackets and bolts that held it on for both years are identical. 2012: ![]() 2010: ![]() Hopefully the body shop will have some idea. You can swap the OEM upper and lower ribbed valence (#12 and #10 below) easily into a '12+ XF and it's possible but not so easily done into a '10-'11 with some clever hole punching in the bumper. ![]() Mina Gallery makes the direct replacment for '10-'11 but I don't think I could swing that through this process, so we will see what happens. It would be great to offset the depreciation hit with a visual enhancement. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - Apoc - 07-03-2014 Sooo, three days? Re: Project Shaguar XFR - WRXtranceformed - 07-07-2014 So I spoke with the body shop today and it looks like although the mounting brackets, quarter panels and lights are basically the same when it comes to fitment between a 2010-2011 and 2012+ XFR, a lot of other components (back up sensors, bumper beams, etc.) are completely different in the newer models. So unless you swapped out a lot of components behind the bumper cover they did not think it would be a "direct" fit if just swapping bumper covers. Hoping to find some other reasonable way to add the diffuser without a ton of cost out of pocket. Re: Project Shaguar XFR - WRXtranceformed - 07-09-2014 Got the estimate today, doesn't look to be a way that I can get the valence done through insurance. I may be able to file a diminished value claim after the accident hits my carfax and try to go after USAA but that sounds like it is a total pain to deal with. We looked at an XF rear bumper that was on the rack at the shop and they estimated about $66 to have it installed (mix of tabs and heat-melted welding of stock piece looks to make it a tougher un-install than previously thought) and I would have to pay to get it painted anyway. So I can get the car fixed 100% OEM and have the OEM '10 valence painted and then buy the Mina Gallery part, pay to have it painted and installed. That way I could have both pieces painted and could sell the aftermarket part when I sell the car. Which I could do at any time really, there's no benefit to getting the diffuser done now because I have to pay for it anyway. They would cover paint of the aftermarket part if I didn't want the OEM valence painted, which is dumb because I need that painted to sell the aftermarket piece. Although I bring in 95% of it I have made a pretty good effort to stop spending household money on me since we got married so I will probably just keep the valence on the wish list for now.
