Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 01-12-2016

Eh at 38K I'd rather have a loaded SLT Canyon. As a side note, that's pretty impressive that in basically one model year GM/GMC came back in and did that kind of dent in the midsize market. I said earlier on this board that I test drove a 2016 Taco Limited and it was nice but it had some serious flaws/deficits and was no Canyon.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 01-12-2016

All of you hating on the Ridgeline - with the exception of Jake & DJ who actually tow something that weighs several thousand pounds - you're all idiots. I owned one of them for 5 years, which is a marvel in itself, and it was the most useful vehicle I've ever had.

Wahhh, its FWD - well, buy the AWD model then. It will be FWD until you actually need AWD although you can lock it in AWD + Low Gear to get out of somewhere you probably shouldnt have been in, but it works. And driving around suburbiaville like all of you do, it doesnt matter that it's not RWD, so get over yourselves or enjoy getting pogo'd around by leaf springs. I never got stuck anywhere going mountain biking out in the GWNF.

Out of all the small pickups, and I drove them all, the Ridgeline blows them away in terms of build quality, ride quality, handling, fuel economy, interior space, and bed space. I went looking for a small truck that would haul a motorcycle around, and ass-u-med I would buy a tacoma because I saw them everywhere - it was awful. With the FWD/AWD layout, it had IRS in the rear which made the rear suspension more compact that allowed the bed space to be maximized - in the other trucks, the wheel wells intruded into the bed pretty badly and you never got the full use of the bed. It was long/wide enough to haul two motorcycles and all the associated shit that comes along going to a trackday. The rear seats fit 3 adults comfortably, you would never get that in a tacoma. There was enough room, with the seats folded up, to roll 2 road bikes in with the wheels on. The lockable bed storage was useful a thousand times over. Honda thought to include a bunch of handy tie down points in the bed, which made hauling motorcycles a cinch. The bed sides were taller, which could be a pro or con depending on how you're using it. Yes, its ugly, but get over it, it's a truck. I dont know what the new sticker prices are going to be, but for the last gen there was a LOT of overhead in the price, I paid $8k under sticker.

I know that that the Big 3 have stepped up their game in recent years, but if you would like a small truck, I wouldnt look anywhere else.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 01-12-2016

Is it okay to just not like the Ridgeline? I think they look dumb and I'm the type to not buy something that isn't to one end of the spectrum of uses. We can all list off the practicalities of a lot of things, like wearing a trash bag instead of clothes because it is just as good at blocking wind, cheap, and can be used to store things, but I wouldn't be caught wearing one anywhere except an ABC party.

In an unrelated discussion, this is the first photo of an NSX that has made me stop and stare at it, and it's just a crappy picture of one in a parking lot.

I'll second this, I bought one new in '08 and loved it during the 3 years I had it. It only got replaced when family needs changed. It handled great in deep snow (once the traction control was turned off), was great to drive everywhere, basically did everything I asked of it without complaint all while keeping my family comfortable. Yeah it was sort of ugly, but who cares, it's a truck...... I used it for 3 years to haul the racecar up and down the east coast.

It even hauled this thing to Carlisle multiple times, to Detroit, and into Canada without any issues.....

Included in the new Competition package for the M3/M4 is the ugliest set of wheels BMW has ever designed.

I thought I was alone based on what my friends were saying.... I hate those wheels.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 01-14-2016

Was that shit designed by folding paper and cutting it like a snowflake? Maybe a kindergartner did the design?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 01-14-2016

They're just trying to give the kids what they want. It reminds me of a style of aftermarket wheel I've noticed a lot lately, don't know what they're called.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 01-14-2016

The one's you posted look like a variation of the M Technica Turbo wheel.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 01-14-2016

Yeah but those are solid with the pattern painted/carved on right?

Anyway it just seems like they're trying to mimic that geometric style that has been popular in the aftermarket scene lately. I'm personally not a fan of any of it, the only cool part about that BMW is the seat belts.

Those orange wheels on the GTS aren't the worst?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - RawrImAMonster - 01-14-2016

Same design, different color. But yeah they're even worse than the normal colored ones.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JustinG - 01-14-2016

They would look good on a 70s Trans Am

Right, it's the suburban daddy truck. That's fine and they'll sell plenty to those buyers but my feelings are that this won't appeal to most truck buyers.

What are you buying a truck for again? There are a lot more of you out there than I think you think.

I'm kind of intrigued myself, but I'm more of a beater truck + nice shared wagon kind of guy.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Beej - 01-15-2016

Those M3/4 Competition wheels are awful, especially compared to the e46/e90 ones.

Seatbelts are badass, though.

That second sentence made my head hurt.

Mine would obviously see some bleed over into suburban daddy duties because that's where we live right now but I don't commute for work (and rent cars for meetings too close to fly) so it won't be a daily driver. Eventually the plan is to buy some land out in the country and build my own home (ie. pay a PM to help me co-manage it)....a truck somewhat built for that capacity will be nice. Gas mileage is a fine bonus but irrelevant for me right now. As I said in another post, both of our families own farms with some really washed out roads. It will see some hunting duty and some of the places we go out to shoot guns here in NC and when we visit back home you need a legitimate 4WD vehicle to get to. I'm talking like Hills Have Eyes country. Lastly and least important, we vacation in Corolla and I have always wanted to be able to take a vehicle out onto the dunes on the north side of the island where the road ends. That isn't an all the time thing but TV AWDs are known for overheating and shutting down in heavy sand, "sand" mode or no.

You forget I've owned 3 "truck" trucks before and put every one of them through the paces. Two of my old Toyotas got retired at 280,000 and 340,000 miles! The last Tundra is probably still mucking around a construction site in northern VA somewhere.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 01-15-2016

I am beating a dead horse here, but the Ridgeline will handle all of that stuff and be nicer to live for your suburban daddy watch shopping duties. The only thing it wont do is tow a car as well as a "real" truck. When you go to the beach just rent a jeep rather than tear up your daily driver with salt and sand.

Nothing wrong with just saying "I WANT A GODDAMN V8 GODDAMMIT" and I understand that one too

Calling it now, an aftermarket vendor is going to start making those and that will be a new popular mod for all of the older M-cars.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 01-15-2016

I'd buy them.
