Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 08-22-2013 Sounds like a successful trip! Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 08-23-2013 JustinG Wrote:Evan Wrote:but there are better safes to be had. FWIW, I think it's great value for money. I don't have the problems Evan mentions, so I suspect there is inconsistent build quality. My only use is to keep random guests and/or kids from finding it. I'm not really worried about theft. What's the good word on 9mm ammo these days? I can't find anything reasonable online and the closest Walmart is 30 minutes and a toll away so "stopping in" isn't really an option. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 08-23-2013 I've seen it pop up for avg prices at aimsurplus and palmetto. Subscribe to the ammo, "notify me" on AIM. And be ready with your CC when the email pops up. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 08-23-2013 FYI, major safety recall for any of you Shield owners. Sounds pretty serious and worth a look. About to test mine, hoping I don't have to send it in for a second time: http://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstore/Sm ... tice%20(PR).pdf Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 08-24-2013 So I just finished a 5 day instructor course for handguns for work. We fired somewhere between 1100-1400 rounds through two different pistols. I never thought I would get tired of shooting, but after 4 large blisters on my hand I was ready to quit. We mostly focused on revolvers but also spent a good deal of time firing a Glock 23. 9 hours was also spent on weapons retention, concealed carry practices and defensive tactics, but that's not what I was looking to focus on. On day 1 I was qualifying at 76% (70% is a qualifying score). After some instruction and practice I was shooting a 88% then a 92% qualifying score. My question to you guys is this; do you all regularly practice with "camming" or trigger reset points? When practicing with the Glock we spent a ton of time pulling the trigger and only letting it out far enough for the trigger to reset (a very small distance) and this improved accuracy and timing tremendously. Also, with the revolver if you pull halfway back till you hear the "click", then aim and pull, accuracy is much better. I know a lot of you guys are thinking it's impossible to do this fast, but with enough practice it's not. By the end of the training I could draw, cam, aim, pull and fire within the 2 seconds that the target presented itself. Same practice applied to the Glocks. Any of you guys ever practice this way? If not, I highly recommend it, it's extremely effective. All of our instructors do it and it helped me improve my qualification score by over 15%. Another tip I picked up was gripping the firearm as far up on the grip as possible. It doesn't feel as comfortable at first but it gives you much more control over the firearm and feel perfectly natural after a little while. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 08-24-2013 I have personally not practiced a lot of shooting techniques for my pistols because they are all pretty stupid accurate. I had an almost perfect score for my CWP qualifier, I think I just got dinged a little on my timing. With that said I am also not in a situation where I am drawing and firing from a holster really since you aren't allowed to do that at most ranges here. It would be fun to try some of that "tactical" training like you are describing to see if I can achieve similar accuracy. On the other side, every time I have taken my rifle out I have done a lot of practice with breathing / shooting technique, at least as far as the little bit of coaching I have had from a friend of mine who shot rifles collegiately/competitively. That has really helped improve my accuracy. The rifle itself helps too, it's insanely accurate after we sighted in the red dot and the iron sights. I can put rounds through the "eyes" of a human target at 50 yards with iron sights. I don't bother to shoot much further than that until I get a powered scope (the flip 3x magnifier mount I have sucks). I was able to consistently hit head shots with my buddy's SKS @ 100 yards and the low end scope he had on that thing. That is good enough for me for the zombie apocalypse. Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 08-30-2013  Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ghost - 09-12-2013 So I finished my AR build awhile back, and I now I'm starting to get into the AK game, I know of dozens of places/websites for AR stuff but only a few for AK places/websites. Anyone know of any places for AK accessories or anyone else into AR/AK platforms? Anyone know of any places for AK accessories or anyone else into AR/AK platforms? ak47.net is a fork of arfcom dedicated to Kalashnikovs. As far as AK "accessories" go, you mostly get them in the same places...but the aftermarket is a lot more limited. Nobody, for example, upgrades their triggers on an AK because you'll never get a good one, they're just... not designed with that in mind. What in particular are you looking for, I can point you in the right direction. Do I need to write a "Rex, I want to buy an AK" post? Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ghost - 09-12-2013 Right now just looking for handgaurds with rails, different stock options, different mags, I know I'm going to go with magpuls new ak grip amd mag when they come out. Also looking for a correct style red dot or low mag optic. I don't really want to use my eotech on it Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 09-13-2013 Ghost Wrote:Right now just looking for handgaurds with rails, different stock options, different mags, I know I'm going to go with magpuls new ak grip amd mag when they come out. Also looking for a correct style red dot or low mag optic. I don't really want to use my eotech on it Well, like I said, there's a smaller aftermarket for Ak stuff than AR stuff, mostly because the AK is a bit more involved to modify, it's far less modular than Stoner's design. Kalashnikovs were designed, in the end, to be stamped out by the millions and handed to peasants for when the wave of Capitalist Pigs rose out of Poland to threaten The Glorious Revolution. So. Let's start from the back. The best stock out there in my opinion is the AK-74M stock. Locks solidly closed, yet folds with a quick push of a button. Russian or Bulgarian, they're both good. Unfortunately, if you don't already have one you'll need a new trunnion installed to accommodate the folder. Womp-womp. This is actually why I don't have an AK. I won't have one without this stock and an SLR-107 is just too spendy for me. From there your options are either tapco junk or weird adapters to AR stocks that don't REALLY fit. I mean, they fit, but cheek weld is less than ideal (to say the least), the stock angle ends up being all wrong for the AR stock design, and it looks weird. A third option is a ACE stock, which addresses some of the above, but doesn't then offer anything that a good solid piece of russian wood doesn't. For a grip, the US Palm is pretty comfortable, and if you like the MOE grip on an AR, you'll probably like the MOE grip on an AK. Magpul could make suppositories and I'd buy them, to be honest, those guys can pretty much do no wrong, if you ask me. For mags, dude the best part of an AK is the cheap russkie mags that will last for ever and work and you can use them as a hammer if you need to. Surplus is best, buy 'em cheap and stack them deep. Your optic. So if you've got the "scope rail" on the side, then a period correct PK-01 or POSP knockoff or similar from Belarus is probably the way you wanna go. Like this if you want magnification: ![]() Like this if you don't: ![]() Search around ebay and gunbroker, you'll find them for under 250. Or risk your money buying from Kalinka or someplace like that. I would stay away from the "open" red dot Kobra designs...there's a reason they aren't made like that anymore. (Also remember that the SVD and the AK scope rail are different, and IIRC, not compatible) You could also get some weird pic rail that replaced your dust cover but I've never met one of these that wasn't garbage and didn't cost *as much as a used AR*. Having said all this, the Ineffable Wisdom of Ivan Chesnokov is hard to argue with: Ivan Chesnokov Wrote:WHY YOU WANT RAIL FOR KALASHNIKOV? Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 09-14-2013 Good purchase imo Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 09-14-2013 Thx, it was on sale and I had an extra $40 off from the gift card! Not bad Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Ryan T - 09-15-2013 Good buy, I inherited a 10/22 from the late 70s and it is still an awesome gun. While I don't recommend this for any weapon, my 10/22 wasn't cleaned for nearly 20 years and would still shoot with no malfunctions and snag a rabbit at 50 yards. |
