Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 06-26-2013

Wow some of those are stupid aggressive! The one with the spears in it is ridiculous haha

My grandfather was a tank commander during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster after the war. One of his injuries was a shot to the head with a wooden bullet which were outlawed by the Geneva Convention. The were banned because when they hit they splintered into a million pieces basically making it impossible to remove and treat the wound. Fortunately for him it was a glancing shot off of his skull so none of the splinters penetrated into soft tissue. War is an ugly thing.

Take your 900 dollar PSA, add a URX3.1, KAC front and rear BUIS, ambi controls, LMT Sopmod stock, KAC trigger...tell me what your total ends up.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 07-15-2013

It's a great value don't get me wrong! My PSA package also included the standard front and Magpul manual backup sight. I swapped the handguard for like $30, granted it's not a free float. The trigger and stock are the two big differences there but I could upgrade both with really nice products for like $500 total? The ambi controls I am not really concerned about. If you just had the rifle built without the optics package it would also be significantly less

That's still well under the almost $2k OTD (after shipping & transfer fees) of that rifle. I am biased obviously because I did a lot of research before I purchased and am really happy with this rifle. I still think it's one of the best hidden gems of the companies offering mil-spec rifles right now.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 07-15-2013

Not trying to get into a pissing match with you, but the KAC front and rear sight alone (arguably the best ones on the market) are gonna run you 300 bucks, unless you buy stolen USMC ones. A good match trigger, like a Geissele SSA or a KAC is 250 bucks.

Your rifle is fine, I'm just firmly in the "buy once, cry once" camp.

This is only becuase this is like his 4th AR. The first he built a way long time ago. Then sold the uppper, and built a new one. Then we built mine, and mine was very custom as we built it from the stripped lower, and I picked out each part that went on it. So he's been through just about every part and finally got to a point that he knows what he wants and this is probably the perfect AR for him. Makes mine look like a bitch f'real though.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 07-26-2013

PSA is running their Premium PRO package again, albeit $100 more than when I bought it. Still a great value, the optic alone is $400.00. Great value for those looking to pick up a high quality AR with a high end optic at a reasonable price.

No worries, we are doing family stuff for the rest of the weekend! We will be pretty much completely unplugged for two weeks during the honeymoon Wink

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 08-14-2013

Well, here's my current work in progress:

300 AAC Blackout "Pistol".

Figured you guys would dig it because who doesn't like carbon fiber? The barrel is about 3" shorter than the handguard, so what you're seeing there is a stand-in for the suppressor, a 3" long "muzzle brake" that I'm not sure will do much of anything at all to control recoil impulse but will definitely keep the muzzle blast outside the handguards so I won't have to worry about flame cutting.

I was inspired by the De Lisle Carbine but modernized. Light, short, and above all: Quiet. Now it won't be that quiet without the suppressor (which I have yet to buy, but I've picked it out...I think) but 220gr projectiles at ~1100fps shouldn't generate more than 130db...which is silly quiet. AND should still provide like 500ft-lbs of force on the receiving end...about the same as a .45ACP (but better as ranges increase).

Anyway, I'm still a can and 2 stamps away from it being "done", and with stamps taking 11+ months to return ( Confusedhock: ) it might be a while before it is "finished".

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 08-20-2013

You guys with the small handgun lockboxes, still happy with them? Looking for a drawer size lockbox to throw in my night stand. With Averie getting more mobile and my Nephew getting into everything when he is here, it is time to lock up the FN.

Reading CNN I noticed the 3yr old who shot himself with a gun a housemate left on the closet floor. I am not that stupid, but before long it wont be hard for one of them to open my nightstand drawer.

You def want to lock that up asap. I am assuming you have some kind of trigger guard on your gun right now because some states require that you have firearms secured in some way if children are in your house.

Finger safe for the win, biometric or push button. Secure it to the floor with bolts and that bad boy isn't going anywhere.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 08-20-2013

No trigger guard, them accessing the firearms is not an immediate concern.

Averie can't walk yet, so climbing the stairs and getting past the babygate is a non issue ATM.

My nephew is walking just fine but can't climb stairs or open doors yet. He is the issue though, once he learns to climb stairs he still has the baby gate at the top to deal with, but if it is left open he could potentially open our bedroom door, and make it into the nightstand drawer. So I am trying to be proactive, cause he could start heading up the stairs anyday now.

EDIT: Also looking at maybe a cheap Stack-On locking cabinet for my shotty, AR, and ammo, until I can afford an actual safe. Thoughts?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Evan - 08-20-2013

my amazon cheapie drawer safe does the trick, but its a royal motherf-er to spin the lever to lock it back up (thankfully its easy to unlock)
holds my full size XDM, Shield 9mm, and CM9
if youre on a budget its fine, but there are better safes to be had.

My AR i have a hardback rifle case that I keep locked. No room for a cabinet and its good enough for keeping the kiddies off of it. (and i dont keep it loaded anyway)

Evan Wrote:but there are better safes to be had.

Like?

I'm not sure my budget, but if one enhances the ability of me to quickly retrieve the firearm I may be willing to spend it.

Also keep in mind this not not meant to be a theft deterrent. Just a lil kid deterrent.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - BLINGMW - 08-22-2013

went to Dicks to buy a shirt, came back with that 597 I've been meaning to buy. With a scope for $199? Sure why not :dunno:
(of course, like everyone, they didn't have any .22 in stock...)

Didn't buy shirt
