Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 12-22-2015

Speaking of supercar pricing, apparently the Ferrari guys believe F-car prices are nearing the peak of a bubble. I certainly wouldn't be surprised given that 308's and 328's have experienced a run up, and even 360's are holding their value extremely well after over 10 years. If Ferrari prices take a tumble, I think it will be even worse for some of the other brands like McLaren and Porsche. 12C's already don't hold their value, and GT3 prices have been a bit frothy lately.

The thought of being able to swoop in on a distressed sale is....arousing.

Edit: FerrariChat post on the last time the bottom fell out of F-car prices

Please GOD PLEASE. The turbo did nothing for me, went back to looking at old BMWs. A nice 997 GT3 would be perfect

Good read. I am a single dude, making pretty good money, living cheap. I realllyyy wanted to buy a Testarossa about 2-3 years ago. I could have swung it, but pussied out and talked myself out of getting serious about it. You could find them all day long online for 55-75k, with TRs being a bit more. Lately, you can hardly find anything under 100k, and most listings pretty high into the 6 figures. I hope that the bottom falls out hard, or it'll never be a reality at this point.

See, if you had bought it then you could've made like 20 or 50 grand by selling it. Or maybe like 20 bucks once you subtract maintenance and repairs.

I've actually been thinking of what somewhat rare supercars might experience the next run up in prices. I feel like Gallardo Superleggera's are kind of underpriced for what they are, given that they go for around $130-150k whereas a 430 Scud of the same year will go for about $250k to over $300k. At some point I have to think those Superleggera prices will start rising.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 12-23-2015

I saw some numbers recently where if you had bought a 360 new and used the "Lifetime free maintenance" thing Ferrari does, then sold it today, the cost of ownership over each year would have only been like $3000.

I mean I haven't played video games in like a decade but I don't think I ever had a clean lap at that place.

Is the M4 GTS lighter than the regular one? Seems they'd have to take some out to make up for the size of that guy's balls.

Idk. The course is tough as balls. I have to drive it with brake line on or I have to constantly rewind in Forza 6

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 12-28-2015

The F Pace configurator is live. Should be interesting to see how Jaguar fares in the CUV market. It will go on sale spring of 2016 as a 2017 model.Quite a bit of trim levels to choose from - 6 in all. America only gets the 2 V6 options: 3.0L supercharged V6 making either 340 or 380hp. AWD. Europe will get a diesel and manual option.

Base model starts around $40-$45k.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 12-28-2015

Wow, that's actually pretty good looking. The Jag grill really works on a larger vehicle.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 12-28-2015

Been excited about that for a while and would definitely drive based on prior ownership. It will sit nicely with other vehicles in that segment, especially at that price point.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 01-08-2016

So I don't really like this guy, he is pretty whiney about everything. He does have an interesting column/blog going though. He bought a range rover with a ridiculous warranty from carmax and they ended up paying close to $10k in repairs over his time of ownership. Now he has purchased a 2007 V8 Vantage with an UNLIMITED bumper to bumper warranty from Aston Martin. Interested to see how things go.

It's not the warranty items he should be worried about for the next year...if he's driving it a "lot" it's going to be the maintenance costs. All of which pretty much have to be done at the Aston dealer if he ever wants anyone to buy it off of him at the end of the year.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 01-08-2016

I do love Vantage's for sure, but that unlimited warranty is a bit of a stretch..i think you can only do it for a max of 2 years, so he paid 5 grand for 1 year of warranty..that's pretty steep. On the other hand, he also got the car for 45k which is one of the lowest prices i've seen paid for one..so maybe it's a wash.

side-comment about demuro...i don't know what it is, but the people that read his columns always post about how funny he is, and I dont think I've ever cracked a grin about something he wrote. Makes me wonder if he hasn't paid a service to promote his stuff and generate clicks

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 01-08-2016

I think some of his articles are entertaining but he does not belong in front of a camera, ever. I cringe so hard when he's squinting into the camera trying to deliver clever lines.

I am interested to see how that Vantage holds up, I've always had a thing for them and I've been trying to convince DJ he needs one because there's no way in hell I can afford one.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Jake - 01-08-2016

I dunno, I think his writing always has at least one line that gets me giggling pretty good. And it's interesting to read about ownership of the random shit he buys - I enjoyed the Hummer articles a lot.

He's awful on camera and I never watch the videos.

The Vantage looks cool, I'm curious how it'll hold up for him. Oh, and Jon, he still has the Range Rover - his M.O. there is to keep it until the end of the warranty period to see how much it cost in warranty repairs vs. miles driven.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 01-11-2016

one thing i'd love to hear him tell us about is how much he pays for rental cars when the aston is sitting for weeks in a dealer's bay waiting on random shit that only comes from a tiny factory in the UK and can only be installed by a certified aston tech.

his videos and personality are basically insufferable but i guess that's the price you pay for entertainment at someone else's expense.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 01-12-2016

The 2017 Ridgeline is pretty interesting. The front end is wayyyyy to much Odyssey but the rest looks decent - with almost a Colorado like profile. This could be a great truck for the people who don't necessarily need a full size truck, but want a bed for household projects and what not. Available in FWD or torque vectoring AWD with the 3.5L v6.
