Hurgg, a GMC truck is on top of my list right now. Maybe I should reconsider

I would. Go with tried and proven, GMC does that great. The diesels dont have any issues Wink (just kidding). I am curious to see how the diesel colorados turn out. They can't tow much legally but it looks like a great package if you went with a small aluminum enclosed or open trailer.

Nice, that's good to hear. I talked to Chris Davis about his and he seemed pretty happy with his GMC trucks over the years other than some old-truck-stuff he's dealing with right now.

Funny you said Colorado, the Canyon All Terrain package is right up there for me along with a gently used Sierra All Terrain. Even the V6 Colorado / Canyon can tow up to 7000 lbs. The diesel version is 7600 I believe.

 That said, remember tow ratings include weight inside the cab and pickup bed (realistically). Your axle and gross ratings are far more important than the tow rating, and 4 guys, all their shit in the back and an open trailer with an m3 will be far closer to those limits than you would think. (not that you are towing as far as I know?)

I am in love with my truck again after doing some updates (new speakers and new shocks). I didn't realize how bad the ride had turned when the 140k mile old shocks literally would not rebound when I compressed them. But I really have no options anyway aside from a newer HD since when loaded up I roll down the road at around 20,500lbs with the 13,000lb trailer. And spending an additional $30k to get ventilated seats and bit less mileage is not in the cards.

If it was my money for your purposes, the Canyon is great, just make sure to cross-shop with the japanese small-trucks. I haven't driven any but I know you will do your due diligence. I am 6'2 and small japanese trucks are made for guys that are 5'4.

That is a good point and you are right I am not towing anything nor have any plans to right now anyway. For some reason I have this little devil on my shoulder that keeps saying I should get the bigger Sierra because at some point I might wish I had the extra size / power / tow capacity. Kind of like buying a gun safe, always get one bigger than you need because you'll grow into it. But you hit the nail on the head, for 98% of the driving I will do in it, the Canyon would actually be perfect for me and easier to drive around town. I drove old school mid-size trucks for years as well as a full size Tundra, using them both as construction work trucks and I never had any problems with the mid-size at all. Well, except for that time my PM was hazing me and asked me to pick up a load of 2x4x18s from the lumber yard....and I dumped the entire load at a stop light pulling onto 28.

So YES on the Jap truck thing. Two weekends ago we test drove the new Taco Limited and man have they come a long way. Wireless Qi charging in a truck? I actually loved almost everything about it, very smart cargo tiedown system, really, really nice interior and interface, etc. But the dang seats do not adjust up and down. Decent Japanese leather seats, no power controls which I could deal with but what a massive oversight to not be able to adjust the seat up and down. The way the hood sits on those you already feel like you're driving a bit of a small tank. I'm not a short guy and I really couldn't get a comfortable seating position. My wife is all of 5'1 with high heels on and she would basically have to use a booster seat if she ever needed to drive it. So that pretty much ruled it out. That truck is awesome and would be a fun around-town truck but it would punish you after a 6 hour drive...whereas the GMCs feel like a relative Cadillac in comparison.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 12-01-2015

Yeah, when it comes to foreign midsize trucks, it's an interesting way that tall people don't fit. You're just kind of... uncomfortable and you can't figure it out. It's usually the small floorboards and odd steering wheel placement against your legs that makes you kind of jam yourself in there. I love the new Tacoma from what I've seen of them, but I can't imagine they're any more comfortable to be crammed in for long trips than older ones.

These are all SUV-specific issues due to the body shape. Lots of buffeting and a few other annoyances that the pickups don't seem to share.

I do know the K2xx trucks (SUV and pickup alike) that are the 2015+ GM have a steering wheel that is slightly closer to the driver on the right side. This is because they re-used the GMT900 steering column for cost saving and had to shim it or something to work. Annoyed the crap out of me in the 2015 Tahoe rental I had and the 2016 Silverado I sat in.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Jake - 12-01-2015

And Lee, for your purposes, I think a Colorado/Canyon could be a great option. They're nearly the size of the old GMT800 Silverado (1999-2006) from what I can tell.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - WRXtranceformed - 12-01-2015

Good to know about the SUV / truck differences and very interesting about the steering column, I will have to see if I notice that again if Enterprise hooks me up with another GM truck. And yeah that is what's crazy! "Mid-size" nowadays certainly isn't small haha...Where you really notice the size difference now vs. the full size trucks is in the width. 6" doesn't sound like a lot but it seems to make a big difference especially for parking lots and decks. It's fine for me though really because the cabins on the crew cabs have plenty of space inside.

So what do you know, two days ago Enterprise tossed me the keys to a 2015 Suburban LTZ...and I noticed the steering wheel thing  That is crazy...I wouldn't have noticed it if you hadn't mentioned it, but it is definitely a little "off" in its alignment or placement.

I had the M3 for 3-4 years before I read a forum comment about the steering wheel being slightly off-center from the driver's seat. Sure enough, it's super noticeable next time I get in the car.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 12-03-2015

^^ i know, right? the new camaro divides by zero. i'd totally drive one, v6 be damned.

funny thing is even the old v6 sounds pretty amazing with just a handful of choice parts to open it up.

can't wait until V8Roadsters finishes their swap kit to put that engine in the RX8 chassis....

Re: Automotive News Discussion - BLINGMW - 12-04-2015

And apparently it's ~400 lbs (one average american?) lighter than the previous model. THAT's kind of shocking really.

Cant you get a V8 mustang for the same price?

Still would rather have a Golf R #vwtard

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 12-04-2015

You guys are excited about the sound of an engine in a car you would never buy. I love it.

JPolen01 Wrote:You guys are excited about the sound of an engine in a car you would never buy. I love it.

I don't know if I could deal with the looks but it sits on a good chassis. You never know. Someone could go for it :dunno:

Edit: the more I look at it the more I think it has something in common of the new WRX. That is they just took a bunch of cars lines and mashed them together into one car....

You can see mustang, challenger, and charger in that design, imo.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 12-04-2015

I thought the picture of the car in front of the red barn was a 2016 Mustang?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - D_Eclipse9916 - 12-04-2015

Saw one of these driving into work today. WOW! These things are great looking in person.

Aw yus. Dad just has the V6 ATS and it feels solid. It feels slower than it is when driving it though. I wouldn't mind something like an ATS when I get old. ATS-V is just ridiculous. I'd love to drive it around a track but idk if I would DD a V.

The only reason to own a new Camaro would be because of this chassis.
