Dash cameras: good idea or paranoia - Senor_Taylor - 08-20-2019

Everything you attach to the windshield in a GTI rattles. My work parking pass rattled.

I removed the Aukey DR02 cash cam with the motion sensor and in doing so i destroyed the OBD2 power-supplied motion sensor ($20). When i looked at the sd card for the recordings i noticed it recorded a LOT while sitting overnight. I didn't really like that, so i'm kind of glad it's removed. After that i checked out the files that the DR02 recorded when i press the accident/record button manually. I understood the function that it would save the prior 3 minutes (or whatever was preset/configured) after pressing the button. In fact it started recording for that time instead. Considering that the whole point of pressing it would be to record what JUST happened i don't think i'll be using the dash cam anymore. It was a bit distracting placed on the driver's side anyway, so i'm debating getting a different camera or just going without one again.

IMO Dash cams should be set and forget and as simple as possible.

It's been over a year since any actual dash cams have been recommended - what's the bee's knees now? Looking at getting a cam for the new gal and would love something that records activity while parked.
