The only reason to pay for cable these days is for sports, imo. That's the only reason I haven't cut the cord just yet...

Just having ESPN and FS1 doesn't help for local market games. I wish I could cut the cord but with all of the sports I watch and shows the wife likes it's just not possible. I need ESPN, FS1, MASN (Orioles), MASN2, NBCSN, Big 10 Network, etc. The list goes on and on.

Have all those but MASN (which, Orioles suck, you're better for it

Ken, if internet companies didn't usually charge a ridiculous amount for internet it would be worth it for me but since it will end up close to what internet+tv I'd rather just keep the cord. Plus the limitations of 2 people streaming sucks as well

Bumpity bump....
Started searching around since our 2 yrs is up in July. Found out i only have a $30 etf with FIOS.
Xfinity guy knocked on our door, so i listened to his speech til he said 100/15, nerp im good. “Why do you need such high upload speeds sir, our surveys say that most users only need 15 mbps down.”
Cause I dont want to wait 4 days for the file I need to upload for work to finish, after my VPN cuts your 15mbps to like 7.
Anyway, called FIOS, saw $39.99 for 100/100, new customers only. Best we can offer is $74.99, but then $40 if you wanna keep the same # of boxes (2).
Now the rep I got was very cool, she looked up a bunch of different options but couldnt get it lower. She told me the best thing to do is cancel, wait 24hrs, then sign up as a new customer.
So, today I cancelled, “your service will be cancelled as of midnight”. 5 minutes after hanging up they killed it....
I figure, may as well see if I can sign up, 15 minutes later I'm back up and running 100/100 at $39.99.
So for TV I did trials for everything.
Hulu Live $40, had good selection of shows, 3 of 4 local channels live, UI sucked, buffered a lot, and no Android TV app.
Youtube TV $40, was awesome, up to 6 streams, all locals live, great UI, smooth streaming, but the lack of Viacom channels ATM killed it. No Nick Jr would cause a riot. But its supposed to be otw. Will look into it later
Everything else just didn't have the locals or was lacking in channels.
Ended up doing DirecTV Now, have my 2 local news channels we watch, the other networks are available on demand, and we have Disney and Nick. Downside is only 2 streams at once, but you can sign into streaming apps using your DirecTV Now credentials and it doesn't take up 1 of your 2. It really only matters when streaming some live stuff.
$80 a month for Internet/streaming vs $130.

I hate FiOS. Xfinity UI has gotten so much better while FiOS just sat back and shouted gigabit internet but I pay $97 a month for gig internet, 130 something channels, DVR, and HBO for the first year which is almost up.
I do have to call every month to remind them they promised me this price and they need to honor what they told me. It's not even an argument anymore. They see all the call logs and have started to know what I'm going to say before I even have to explain it. And of course they promise they fixed it and I won't have to call again. It's ok though cause it's going to be the excuse I use when I make them extend my free HBO and DVR and continue the $30 mvc discount for the second year.

We are getting ready to move into our new house next month and have started shopping for TV/Internet. Our old house had a local utility board that supplied everything and was pretty convenient (water/power/sewer/cable/tv all on one bill), but they don't cover where we are moving too. FIOS isn't available down here yet either. Going to have to weigh the pros and cons of Comcast vs DirecTV vs Dish. We are a pretty low tech family, just firestick, basic channels and decent internet speeds would suit us fine. I doubt we ever stream more than 1 device at a time.

When my Fios $65 ($85 after taxes and box) internet + tv promo ran out 3 months ago, I switched to fios internet only($40, no tax) plus directv now ($35, no tax).
Total is $75/month and it works very well. Directv now works well enough for us, we dont watch a ton of tv, just news and occasional sports. Well worth it for the cost savings.

How are you liking the interface? My wife pretty much demands TV for Bravo (good lord dont get me started). I see DirecTV has Bravo and she mostly just streams old episodes while working or doing things around the house. I just need NBCSN and FS1 for my IMSA races. I know TV seems like a waste for us but my wife insists. And considering my budget for the race car I am not going to fight this one
Since we both work from home full time we are going down the road of Windstream Gigabit internet and I would love to cut the cable bill down by $20-30 a month.

I've had it since day 1 (i pay $35 grandfathered for the highest package) and it's gotten better and better. For your use case, i'm sure it would work perfectly. We watch a ton of TV and are happy, you get used to the delay in changing channels vs. traditional cable.
You can prepay 3 months and get a free Apple TV if that's your thing or just one month and get a free FireTV.

They just swapped the one month from a Fire stick to a Roku stick. I just got in on it this morning before my trial was up. If you do the free offer only sign up for the lowest level package and prepay for that for 3 months. So you are only paying $105 for the Apple TV vs $120 for the next package and so on.
If you prefer Roku, I'd do the stick and put it on your secondary TV. You'll want a Roku Premiere or Premiere + on your main TV.
Hopefully I can kill the Roku all together soon, just waiting on them to release the Android TV app that's in BETA right now.
The NOW interface is very user friendly.
I was concerned that you can only use 2 streams at once, but since you can use the network apps and your NOW log in, it doesn't really matter.

I am confused by your post. Maybe you are referencing doing the trial vs just going full hog?
I was going to sign up for the first 3 months at $10 a month, and it also comes with a free Apple TV if you prepay 3 months. We have 2 kindle FireSticks, will those support our other TVs?
We really only need it for 2 TVs (main room and our movie room), the other TVs are just an exercise room and my office that are used very sparingly.

The new interface just came out a week or two ago, but I havent upgraded the app yet. All reports are that its pretty good, though I dont mind the old interface.
The biggest downsides are (some of these may have changed in the new UI?)
- A bit of buffering when changing channels. Its not good for channel flippers.
- An extra step to start watching tv. start firetv, then select the directv now app. (I start firetv with alexa voice command now which streamlines it a bit)
- No channel numbers, so you cant go directly to a channel (but a nice 'favorites' UI to make it faster)
- No 'last channel' button so you cant go back and forth between two channels.
- Occasionally during primetime the quality will degrade to 8-bit nintendo blurry view for a few seconds at a time before snapping back to high res. this has really only happened 3 times to me.
for the price savings, and the added bonus of smartphone tv anywheres, Im a happy customer

Another option is cancelling the service under your name, and signing up for 'new customer' service under your wife's name. Ive done that twice so far to get new customer promos.

That was my initial path after talking to one rep who said I couldn't cancel and sign back up under my name for 30 days. She also made some comments about streaming quality and selection that were pretty retarded.
Next lady was the awesome one mentioned in my last post.

I run it on a previous Gen Fire TV and the most recent Fire TV Stick - both work equally well IMO. My brother uses the Apple TV and likes that as well. Have not tried Roku.
