Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - D_Eclipse9916 - 10-21-2013 Successful 2011 season done with an eye towards the future of 2012 in GTS2. February turned out to be great weather. Started with a good qualifying position, now that I knew I had to fight through the field! Ended up with my first pole on the first race of the season. I was ready for my first race, I didn't know of the trouble brewing in the paddock. I line up on grid, super happy as can be to be on pole. Brian Maeng comes over and leans in the passenger door to "help me get fastened in and do a cursory check over the car. I welcome the company on grid and try to breathe while getting strapped in. 5 minutes is called on grid ---breathe--. Maeng and Scotty hold thumbs up, so I throw them a cheesy smile and a thumbs up right back.....having no idea what they just put on the side of my car. A large, pink cock. ![]() With no idea of the jackassery going on the side of my car, I proceed on the pace lap, and get a decent start to the race. With 2nd/3rd battling it out, I make up lots of time for a huge gap on the field within a lap. (again donnie weymer camera car) https://vimeo.com/37199302 First lap... ![]() Lead after first lap.. ![]() ![]() ![]() After such a successful race, I was ecstatic about all the thumbs up and waves I was getting from the sidelines on my cool-down lap. I had never seen such excitement from the cornerworkers, but then started to wonder.. I come in through hot pits, and people are pointing and clapping.. okay..something's wrong.. I get sent to impound, and am told by JJ (race director), that I am in trouble and Chris will need a word with me. Confused, he pushes me around the side of the car to show me the Pink C*ck. I am in trouble, JJ says my win will be stripped, I start getting a little sweaty and panicked. I then see Chris walking up to me very upset. He starts waxing on about "your an official, you should know better", and how "this is a family environment", and all I can manage, while sweating in all my race gear after my first win in gts2 is "I didnt know!!!" lol. He then breaks down and laughs and gives a bear hug. I must have been bone white. A good prank, unfortunately at my expense. Sunday, I would win again. First 2 races of 2012 and I win both. Off to a great start! Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - CaptainHenreh - 10-21-2013 I count coordinating the Pink Cock as one of my crowning achievements. I hope Scotty and Maeng feel the same way. You should find that post you made and link/post it into here. One of the most hilarious stories you have ever told. I couldn't find it however :? Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-29-2014 Bah I really want to catch up with this so I am going to make it very brief: 2012 Season: March 12/13 weekend: Saturday race went very badly. With no rain tires for the qualifying and rain, I would end up 2nd in qualifying. Hoosiers drys dont have much traction in rain: The start of the race didn't go so hot off the very start. At turn 1, I was mixed in with all of the rest of the GTS folk, and based on confusion on my part, I thought a car was coming into me. I swung wide and into the grass. Unfortunately this put me dead last. I got back on track and fought my way back to third when I mixed it up with the CMC folk. I attempted to get by them under braking, but a few shifts in the pack meant all the sudden I had no room. I dived off to the right. With the wet grass, I ended up taking a ride. Initial D catching the gutter...AKA mustang? DOH nut! Unfortunately, it pushed my fender into my tire so I had to come off track. It also messed up my alignment. You could noticeably see the toe out. For sunday's race, I pretended it didnt happen, and aside from it being twitchy, I came from behind the pack and won! ![]() Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-29-2014 April Summit 2012: After the incident at VIR, I replaced the left front fender and the left door. She was now clean again. Alignment, checking over everything, and it all looked good. I then left the car ready for Summit a week to go. As I attempt to start her up Friday night to go to Summit, she will not idle. Okay.. I try revving her out, but she stumbles and pops. Great, just a week ago she runs fine, now breaks up. That night I pull apart the Intake manifold 2 seperate times, replace the MAF, pull out spark plug # 1 and 2, clean out the ICV, anything. Doesn't fix the problem. By now it is 11PM. I don't have time. I struggle her onto the trailer and head for the track. Saturday morning I procede to pull the intake manifold again, desperate to fix anything that may be the problem. It isn't throwing any codes, ugh! I miss practice, then qualifying. Everyone is coming over with ideas, we are plugging in different sensors, playing with stuff. About 8 minutes before qualifying we decide to pull every spark plug. #1 fine, 2-3-4-5, all fine. We get to number 6....what the hell, spark plug tip is flattened, grounding out the entire plug. I rush to my toolbox for spare plugs. 6 minutes before race goes out. My friends helping me scream at me to get dressed and jump in the car. I hear "5 minutes on grid!", I get my racing shoes on, zip up my suit, grab my helmet and hans and jump into the car. "3 minutes on grid!". I get into the car looking up at the open hood with a flurry of hands under the hood. Trying to replace all 6 plugs and put the coils back on. "1 minute on grid!" I am strapped in, still watching a flurry of hands under the hood. I look over at grid. My hood still up, car hasnt even started. I see the grid rolling out just as the hood slams shut. I fire the engine...hmm sounds good! I practice my best patience rolling through the paddock while cars are rolling on track. Luckily, I know the MM guys on grid!! I dont even get the harassment, nor the check of wristbands, just a "GO GO GO GO" to swing into grid and catch the tail end of the race group leaving. I knew I was in trouble with only a 25 minute race. I hussled and moved, but was a bit flustered by the whole shebang. I ended up moving my way up through the field, and just "couldnt" get around the 2nd place gentleman. I would have infinite amounts of speed out of the corners, and then he would pull back by me. (turns out he was cheating ~20rwhp over and was DQed the next race). Unfortunately battling with him going so slow didnt let me catch up to 1st. 3rd it would be being stuck behind this gentleman. Using all the track: Getting by Khoury: Then it was on for the race on Sunday. Wanting to get back in the game, I felt ready. Turns out the spark plug was the wrong one, and was a tad longer so it got smushed....funny since the car ran fine for most the season.... I had a relatively easygoing sunday race, and just cruised. Awesome side effect? I went for the fast lap on my last lap of the race and broke the class record again with a 1:21.596 https://vimeo.com/41328380 Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - D_Eclipse9916 - 01-29-2014 Found some hooning during February VIR. Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - D_Eclipse9916 - 02-12-2014 Hyperfest 2012 Car was ready to go. This was a rather undramatic event. 1st saturday/1st sunday. Got to play around with Tristan Herbert in his World Challenge GTI. ![]() Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - Jake - 02-12-2014 ^ What's in the process of falling off of someone's car, and which car did it belong to? If I remember correctly, it was but on the other end like in that it was faster than a GTS2 car and the driver (Tristan) was instructed just to Fu** with Dj but that didn't stop Mister Fitzpatrick from passing in the grass. He would pass on the straights and I would have to battle back on by in the corners. Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-03-2014 *sigh* ![]() This has been a great 5 years. Received the cash deposit for the race car in the mail. It is now officially "sold". I am working over the next couple weeks to clean the car up for the buyer and of course probably lament the selling of the car. I have accomplished everything there was to accomplish with the car. I tend to be a goals driven person so maintaining the "status quo" has no interest for me. 2 National Championships in 2 different classes, with the only one I didnt win was when the car broke on the first lap. 3 NASA Regional Championships 87.5% 1st place win rate during the season, 1 equipment failure, 1 me being a donkey and spinning out on cold tires The car taught me a lot and it pangs me to let it go. I am sending out a couple requests for a photographer to do "a photoshoot" with the car before it goes. What class next? No idea. Will decide in the offseason, but definitely going racing next year. Already bought a 36' gooseneck trailer for next year ![]() Re: Dj's 1999 M3 Project - *insertusernamehere* - 11-03-2014 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:What class next? No idea.
