For the unlocking of one of your phones, I would gladly do it if you paid me 2 dollars.

- Ginger - 01-17-2008

Well, it's kind of a moot point. I'm a Verizon user (and my daddy pays for it, and it's free, and I love it that way), but thanks for the offer.

Sorry... I have a computer for that... and it's bigger than 3.5".
I bet that computer also fits in your pocket? Man what a stupid argument. Hahaha. Come on man.

No... but why do I need it to? I guess I've just never felt the need to have a computer on my person at all times. IMO, some things deserve to be disconnected from once in awhile.

You love your phone and that's great... I was just commenting on it being amusing that you spent hundreds of dollars and it doesn't meet your wants when something a lot cheaper had those. Everyone has their priorities and it's obvious that the ability to play music or video isn't one of mine.

Rguy hooked me up with a great Sprint plan. No problems or issues whatsoever. Mo betta that Verizon IMO.

- Ginger - 01-18-2008

OK - can we drop the phone talk? We've got other threads that have beaten this topic to death, really.

- Evan - 01-18-2008

not a primary laptop, but interesting

It took me longer to ship the laptop than I anticipated. I finally managed to drop the pre-paid package off at a FedEx Kinkos on Saturday the 19th (note: No fault of HP. All shipping has taken place overnight at their expense). HP's online claim system allowed me to easily 'track' the status of my repair. I received an email today (Wednesday the 23rd) that the machine was scheduled to be on it's way back to my house already. I was previously told that it should be at my doorstep on the 30th - seeing the shipping so quickly impressed me. I checked FedEx with my tracking number and it already made it to my door! They didn't deliver the machine because they needed my signature (yeah, I'm glad they asked for this... laptops ain't cheap) - but I'll pick it up tonight. If the hinge is fixed I'll be very impressed. A twelve day turnaround, free of all charges, to the repair facility in California and back? That's awesome. Keep your fingers crossed for me Smile

If they fixed the problem.

- Ginger - 01-23-2008

Read the sentance just before the one you quoted Wink

- Ginger - 01-23-2008

Well, I picked it up and everything seems to be in order. They replaced the whole display (which was extra cool by me because I riced it out to cover up some scratches on the lid-side).

All in all, this was a pretty good experience. I'm afraid the problem will just happen again in a few months, though, as it's most likely the nature of the single-hinge design. In that event, I think it'll be going up on Craig's list (or it's fate be laid as a primarily desktop box).

Posting this from a MacBook Air. It sure is fucking small... I almost felt like I was going to break it when I lifted it up.

It's just nice; I like it. But at, what $3,000n the way I want it... no thanks Smile

- Mike - 02-08-2008

get a macbook. faster, cheaper, smaller footprint. with the air you're paying for a cool case.

- Ginger - 02-08-2008

Well, yeah, of course you are Smile

If they'd give the regular Macbook a solid state drive I'd probably give it another look. IIRC, IBM will be releasing an SSD notebook to compete with the Air shortly, and Western Digital has a drive out now that has a built in SSD cache (Vista users take note: all the benefits of ReadyBoost & SuperFetch without the drawbacks of USB2.0 routing or traditional 'idiot' virtual memory files).

- Evan - 02-08-2008

Macbook air performance benchmarks, and the SSD drive in particular, are very underwhelming. There really isnt any speed benefit and even battery life isnt improved much.
SSD is going to be the shizzle in the future, but the tech isnt there yet.

- JackoliciousLegs - 02-11-2008

Agreed.

still looks like it's from the early 90s.

Well that's the fundamental difference between people who buy PC and Mac. Most Mac folks want to spend more money for something pretty while PC buyers generally want to pay less for something more versatile. Tongue

All it's really missing is a blingy color and roundy edges. The form factor works so they really have no reason to change it.
