- Goodspeed - 10-29-2007 Kinda random, couldn't think of anywhere else to post but this is very cool, recently a '87 MK3 Supra became the first import ever to win on "Pinks". Apparently some in the crowd were quite upset Winning pass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO1q6CxTCkY Quote:I've always wanted to do this!! Finally grew some to do it. I still have my 87 supra + a 383 nos chevelle + an 8000 dollar tool box thanks to SPEED CHANNEL. Supra can nevar lose!
- Goodspeed - 10-30-2007 Swaybars are on, and the difference is INSANE. Before, just moving side to side in a straight line (like a race car warming the tires) felt dangerous; the car would almost roll over on itself. The steering feel is much tighter and the car is so, so much flatter. I could actually take turns in confidence now when we went on a little drive afterwards. I can't WAIT to auto-x with these on! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
- Chris - 10-30-2007 haha that last pic is awesome. glad to hear you like them. - WRXtranceformed - 10-30-2007 Nice buddy, glad you like them too. As far as imports on Pinks.... the reason why they never win is because they never get any import that's actually FAST. They had that one "10 second" Civic that turned out to be a complete joke and had to get spotted like 15 car lengths vs. a nitrous'd TA running off the juice heh. There was an FD RX7 on one of the Pinks: All Out episodes that made it into the sweet 16 I think. - ScottyB - 10-30-2007 glad to see you're using jack stands now  sounds like you're enjoying them -- i love that feeling when you put in an hour or two and drive away with a totally different car. cool pictures too! - Goodspeed - 11-07-2007 A little winter update I suppose. The car is still peforming great with little to no issues. Just recently changed the oil and its running well. I have however noticed a few cold-weather issues, the main one being the clutch/pedal. Its a hydraulic system, and when its chilly out the clutch pedal won't come up past just after the engagement point. Sometimes it will pop back into position, but rarely will it slide back as it should. My question is, is this a cold weather issue with the fluid, or could their be an issue with the fluid level or slave cylinder etc? If its a cold weather issue, what other cold weather maladies are there? I've also noticed the trans is notchy and difficult in cold weather as well. A plus however is the correlation between colder, denser air and more flames being blown out the exhaust it seems. The car has burped some pretty sizeable ones, most notably going over the ISAT bridge (PTC holy grail) and tonight in Port Republic traffic. Its great for getting people off your ass I've found  Oh, and my car doesn't have a PCV valve :? Doesn't exist in my TSRM, online, Advance Auto or at the dealership. There are posts in the Supra tech sections explicitly stating that the 7M-GTE doesn't have one. - Sijray21 - 11-07-2007 if you haven't changed the clutch fluid it couldn't hurt to flush it and put some fresh fluid in there. I found my clutch firmer and more consistant after putting some ATE Super Blue fluid in there. perhaps a tranny fluid too based on the previous owners records (if any). my notchy tranny feel in the teg was helped with fresh Red Line Tranny Fluid. man i miss the PTC, haha -- i want to see this beast in-person sometime soon - .RJ - 11-07-2007 Goodspeed Wrote:My question is, is this a cold weather issue with the fluid, or could their be an issue with the fluid level or slave cylinder etc? Check the pivot under teh dash, it may need some l00b - as for cold weather shifting, I remember my buddy's supra turbo that he had in HS was the same way. You could change the fluid, I'd recommend Motul Gear 300 - always worked great when cold for me. - ScottyB - 11-08-2007 yup a fluid change or a lighter weight may help your shifting. my old accord came from the factory with a pretty lousy fluid and i literally had to double clutch into second for the first few miles on colllddd days unless i wanted to get all grindy. - PDenbigh - 11-08-2007 Could be moisture in the hydraulic clutch lines too. I'd start with lubing all of the pivots and flushing the clutch line fluid. Both should be fairly easy. - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-08-2007 LOL, forum whore, ask the forum before you even ask your roommates. Fluid was changed about 3-4 months before you got it, and it has been flushed a few times to try to get rid of that notchy tranny, but thats what your gonna get on a boat thats 19 years old. The sticky clutch pedal is exactly what they have been saying. Good luck, my work is done, its too cold. When I find ice building on my windshield, I only do work on my car. lol. - Maengelito - 11-08-2007 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:When I find ice building on my windshield, I only do work on my car. lol. ah that brings me back. why is it that we only work on our cars in winter in the parking lots with snow and ice on them? reminds me of changing my timing belt, er watching RJ change my timing belt, while dave put the T(u)RD sway bars on his mkIV and boobies doing some maintenance to his del sol in the freezing as cold. i think there was a pic of jayray maybe? swapping an exhaust with like 6 inches of snow on the ground. i feel like thats how you pay your dues as a college kid that works on cars. - .RJ - 11-08-2007 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Fluid was changed about 3-4 months before you got it What kind of fluid is in it though? It can make a big difference. I'm perfectly capable of doing it, it'll just take me 14 hours without you there to point everything out  - ScottyB - 11-08-2007 Maengelito Wrote:i feel like thats how you pay your dues as a college kid that works on cars. i think i paid double everytime i touched a wrench at that point in my life  the wrench sessions at Boobie's place were the best....5 cars lined up, all on jacks, leaking shit everywhere, people were so confused what was going on. - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-08-2007 .RJ Wrote:D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Fluid was changed about 3-4 months before you got it Redline fluids, we made sure to put in good stuff. Maybe not JDM motul, but redline is just as good without the JDM blingage price. - .RJ - 11-08-2007 I think motul is french ![]() I put redline in my E36 and it was pretty notchy when cold - I think it was MT90 I used, but that may not be helping the cold weather shifting. - D_Eclipse9916 - 11-08-2007 I contacted Redline, Slowboy Racing (dsm specialty), and Shep and TRE transmission builders. What basically came to the consensus was redline fluids, although each of them mixed it differently and I eventually went with Shep/Slowboys suggestion, 1 part mt90 1 part mtl and 1 part heavyweight. Has held up great, no problem shifting in the cold. Edit: Before any comments, this is for DSM trannies, not suggesting what he or anyone else should use, FIND THE RIGHT MIX FOR YOUR CAR. - .RJ - 11-08-2007 D_Eclipse9916 Wrote:Shep OMG! Redline makes good stuff, you'll find a lot of people using it  - ViPER1313 - 11-08-2007 ATF in manual transmissions ftw. |
