You have got to be kidding me. What, so they could focus on SUVs and 500+ HP sedans? *sigh*

- Evan - 09-03-2008

let me rephrase.

the next gen solstice/sky that were supposed to come out next year were canned.
so the current solstice/sky will be the last.

it really sucks, because as good as the solstice/sky were in their first try, I bet the 2nd gen would have kicked a lot of ass.

As good a thread as any, I guess. Interesting that some car sectors dropped so much more then others. I wonder how they play out if you factor in fuel economy of the fleet.

Ford, GM report big drop in sales in August
Toyota purchases also fall, Nissan is only major automaker to post rise

Ford Motor Co. said Wednesday its U.S. sales fell 26.5 percent in August, as the struggling automakerÔÇÖs results ÔÇö even worse than JulyÔÇÖs dismal figures ÔÇö showed that the U.S. auto sales slump may not have bottomed out.

ToyotaÔÇÖs sales dropped 9.4 percent from August of last year, a further indication that the woes in the U.S. auto market are continuing, but Nissan ÔÇö the only major automaker to show a sales gain in July ÔÇö reported another improvement, with a 13.6 percent increase in August sales.

Meanwhile, General Motors Corp. reported a 20.3 percent drop in sales from a year ago but a 31 percent improvement over its July totals, mainly thanks to offering all buyers employee pricing on many models.

I dig it! Half my commute could use no gas at all.

Quote:many people posting comments on car blogs have expressed disappointment that the production car does not look as angular and aggressive as the original concept vehicle.

"The majority of [the comments] are negative," Lyle Dennis, a New Jersey neurologist who runs the blog GM-Volt.com, said last week. "A lot of people are saying they're very disappointed and 'take me off the [waiting] list.' "

Translation: It doesnt make enough of a green weenie statement for me to be seen driving it like the Prius does

+1

I want to look like I care about the environment as I cruise in the HOV lane by myself.

I actually like the car a lot. Its what 'hybrids' should have been to begin with, instead of the trap-a-toxic-battery to a regular car scam of the other carmakers.

- WRXtranceformed - 09-16-2008

I thought the US wasn't going to get the Volt? Did I hear that somewhere?

- HAULN-SS - 09-16-2008

I don't know, but I hope not. electricity in WV is cheap (my house electric bill averages 40/month). I might seriously pick one of these up. I read it'll be the equivalent of 150 hp..not bad. It's supposed to go 300 on a single charge/tank. I imagine if I charge it every night i'd only have to fill up once a week or less. Not bad for a 10$ a week charge.

- Mike - 09-16-2008

so gm isn't making some good stuff lately.

sky/solstice is dead.
corvette is on hold.

sweeeeeet.

- HAULN-SS - 09-16-2008

Corvette is only on hold for a week? Its not like they're going to scrub any of the models.

frankly i liked the concept alot better too...but as you said if i was interested in the volt in the first place (to the point i'd get on a waiting list), it was because it was electric, not because it looks all wacky and futuristic and tells everyone my farts smell like cinnamon buns because i love the earth so much.

*choking on smug*

Oh man, that would be freakin awesome!

I'd buy a Volt if it made anything coming out of me smell like that delicious baked goodness.
And in reality, I think it's a pretty damn good looking car. I wouldn't buy a prius simply b/c it looks like ass, this I would actually consider spending money on.

- Maengelito - 09-16-2008

looks pretty sharp except I dont think you can have red lights on the front of the car unless you're an emergency vehicle. Aside from that, it looks very TSX-ish which I like.

The Prius is a reliable piece of machinery that looks like ass though.

Considering Chevrolets wonderful record of reliability, coupled with the fact that their new batteries for the volt still catch on fire....Not sure its the car for me. The reason that the Prius is even going plug in is so that Chevrolet doesn't give plug in cars a bad name in terms of safety.

LOL, c'mon Jason they're not that bad. Chevy's been doing electric cars since before toyota lost their balls.
