asshole, i told you i'd pay for it, just lemme know

you owe me a beer. so apparently honda decided to use different mirrors with the same exact model number. rather than being able to just swap the new mirror on to my old base, they moved the one mount up about 10mm so the screws don't reach it (struggled for 30 minutes figuring wtf the 3rd screw wouldn't thread despite a smaller item being able to pass right through verifying they were lined up), i had to remove the door panel and base... not the easiest task when your garage is full of busted stuff and you can only open you door about 4" Tongue

so i only got the mirror done tonight.

Thanks for the $20..

it was well spent on booze.

you know i'm generous with the beers. how bout i make feersty give you a big wet kiss?

radiator hoses swapped, coolant flushed, windows washed. holla! still putting off the brakes Tongue and damn, that rear hose mount is an f'ing bitch.

oh yeah, hoses from a del sol vtec are the best fit for a hatch w/ stock radiator and a b-series motor.

put in a couple hours tonight. took apart rear brakes, found that a slider was seized from a torn boot! yay! easy fix, i'll pick up the parts tomorrow and we should be good to go by the weekend! question... what do y'all grease your sliders with? i was just gonna use white lithium...

halfway installed my harness. still need to drill and secure the lap and sub belts. rj, you have my drill? not claiming you do, just wondering if i shoulld stop by your place or my parents' for it.

finally installed my ioport mount. i've had that thing sitting in a box for a few years now... just need to gank a camera from work.

must do before vir: finish harness (1 hour), calibrate camera/mount (15 minutes), put rear brakes back together (30 minutes), change oil (15 minutes), resecure lower radiator hose (5 minutes), mount tires, fail inspection (yay 15 day free pass!). looks like one or two more nights and i'll be very happy with where i'm at. now... i need to remember how to drive Wink (it's only been 8 months)

want to do: bushings, new exhaust, install header (dcsports 4-2-1), buy/install intake manifold (blox), rear sway bar, alignment, new cluster or get a monster tach, oil pressure and water temp gauges, broadway mirror, lightweight battery, cf hood, mount passenger side evo and harness, pass inspection.

yeah, bushings and balljoints didn't happen this winter... i'll probably lose my front left at some point.

i use the lithium grease you can get at any autoparts store to grease my sliders. you can get a little bucket of the stuff for a few bucks...works fine as far as i can tell.

- Andy - 01-29-2007

Caliper grease works better than white lithium. White lithium grease starts to cake up once it overheats.

WL is more like a moisture repellant. It's best for low friction, low temp applications. I use the spray WL for hinges and latches.

Mike,

How have you been fiddling with these brakes for months now and not noticed the seized slider?

- navin - 01-30-2007

If you want to pass your inspection IM on AIM...

Confusedhrug: i could have sworn i checked the sliders last time and they were fine. maybe the tear and subsequent seizing was a result and not a cause?

i do remember seeing the words "caliper grease" at advance so i'll just pick some of that up. i'm just going to replace all the boots and treat all of the sliders.

navin Wrote:If you want to pass your inspection IM on AIM...

i need a new exhaust anyway. if i run in to any issues after that i'll hit you up.

Mike Wrote:maybe the tear and subsequent seizing was a result and not a cause?

Not likely.

Advance auto should sell a "hardware kit" with brake pad clips and boots and such. If not, the dealer will have it.

- Mike - 01-30-2007

yeah, i was gonna run to advance at lunch. my pads were pretty difficult to move so i was gonna polish (but i guess i'll replace) the clips as well. i think that was a result of the heat and subsequent "gunk" buildup.

- .RJ - 01-30-2007

Just clean the clips with brake cleaner. Dont forget to lube the 'ears' of the pads where they sit in the caliper carrier with caliper grease also.

- Mike - 01-30-2007

yaya all planned.

Mike,

word, dont use white lithium. there should be a tube of caliper grease probably close to wear you see white lithium. i'd use that. one of the slider pins was seized in my integra's brake caliper bracket after evan tore through a set of panther +'s in one day in my car. i just took the bracket to the muffler shop and had the dude smoke wrench the thing until it was set free. then i bored the hole with a drill to get out all the gunk and polished the slider pin and it didnt have any trouble after that

ah HAH! I TOLD you it wasnt improper bedding you bitch!

- Maengelito - 01-30-2007

AFTER you tore through the pads. the rotors were glowing going into 5, thats a lot of heat. the sliders were fine when we changed the pads, but not so much after that weekend

- Mike - 01-30-2007

lol i still remember that weekend... the phantom pad eater...

hah..... bullshit. You cant tell me that coincidentally a problem with the brakes which would have caused pads to wear faster was discovered right after pads wore fast......but it wasnt the cause of the pads wearing fast.

- Maengelito - 02-01-2007

well, the slider pin worked fine when we put the pad in. not so much when i had to switch pads and rotors after we went through them in one day.
