Oou, let me get those Hancook winter tires off first

ECUTek reflash helped the idle, but didn't fix it completely, so it's being overnighted again out to Cali for a new software update for it that's supposedly going to work. The car could potentially be tuned on Saturday, and if it is, I'm heading up there for the road tune and then driving it straight to the MMArlingtonHouseV1.0. If I do, I hope somebody is home!!

- Nis01 - 07-18-2006

Damn keep us updated Lee. Can't wait to see it. STi Reunion.

W3rd, I'll ring you up if its a go =)

The way things have been though, I'm not very hopeful haha

Small update:

Any hope I had of getting this car back any time soon was crushed this weekend.

The plan was for TurboXS to road tune it Saturday so I could drive it safely and put miles on it. Apparently though, they refused to tune it. They're like afraid of it for some reason, probably because it idles like shit and they don't want to put their name out there by tuning something that doesn't run 100% as it should (even though the motor is extremely happy and strong right now).

So, it looks like I'll be removing TurboXS from the project, and thereby removing any credit they'd receive for the project coming to a successful end. They did indeed try very hard to find a solution for properly tuning my setup and definitely went above and beyond to try to do so, but their product and software at this current stage just isn't capable of handling a build like this.

It looks like I'll be spending quite a bit more to go with a Hydra standalone EMS and tuning will be done by Phil Grabow @ Element Tuning. We're doing a bit of wheeling and dealing, so it looks like I'll get a decent price on a Hydra, but it's definitely more than I wanted to spend at this stage of the build.

Such is life. I'll post back when I get my car back sometime within the next ten years.

crikey. sorry Lee, that's a blower. on the flip side, at least TXS was honest enough to just let it go instead of throwing in a shitty tune and booting you out the door.

I hope things work out for the best and hey, your blazing a new trail for what I imagine will be a couple guys out there in suby land. your reports and experiences will be key for a few people i'm sure.

Oh on top of the lovely news, i cut the fucking shit out of my wrist today on the dust guard underneath my truck whilst changing the oil.. I mean like cut so deep I was really lucky not to hit one of the veins there. WTF? =(

- Nis01 - 07-30-2006

Damn Lee. Sorry about all of the recent news..

Although the Hydra will be an extra expense.. I've ridden in a Subie with a 2.2 stroked block and I believe running a sr55 at the time.. It was insanely smooth throughout the entire band.. It was crazy how that car pulled. You will for sure be pleased with the end result. Good luck with tune and with your wrist... Sad

- WRXtranceformed - 08-03-2006

Thanks Shea =)

Hydra fixed the idle problem 100% as we anticipated! Car has a rough road tune so the motor can be broken in... running roughly 4-5psi. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow and lay into it a little (whilst being a little gentle of course =p)

- Nis01 - 08-03-2006

Got the ball rolling on the Hydra extremely fast, nice work. Sounds like you really might be getting somewhere now. Forget the break in, turn up the boost!

Man, I want to more than anything, but I really want this engine to be broken in right and not burn tons of oil for the rest of its life

It is already going to burn a little oil because it's a "loose" engine designed to handle tons of boost, but I'm going to try to keep it as happy as I can 8)

- Mike - 08-04-2006

this is bullshit! i demand to be thrown in to my seat ASAP! lee, do you have to send the car away for the tuning?

- Evan - 08-04-2006

Nothing wrong with a hard break-in. Seat those rings under load.
Make sure to change the oil after running it for a few minutes to get the leftover metal filings out.

- navin - 08-04-2006

Why not break it in on the dyno?

- WRXtranceformed - 08-05-2006

Different tuners have different ideas as to how to properly break in a car, but a bunch who I talked to, including Andrew who does a ton of motor swaps and such say that those cars who go balls out right away always seem to burn a ton of oil.

The car is back! It feels great, I can't wait to get it broken in! I am still trying to get used to the clutch, it's way grippier than the stocker was. I have a funny story about this already btw, I'll tell anyone who wants to hear over drinks some time =p

- Jeff - 08-05-2006

Seems to me I remember a funny story about the old clutch
