14 weeks and still counting for my Global Entry pre-approval...

The food/drink/bar scene blows anything in VA out of the water. Beaches, lake, state parks, amusement park. So many attractions. I'm sure it's hell in the winter though.

Anyway, what I wanted to ask was if you wanted to spend a day in Harrisonburg and want to give them a taste of the things that make JMU great, what would you do? Please no "go hiking" suggestions and I'd like to keep it limited to things semi near JMU since that's the reason I have any connection to the town.

I figured I'd come down and hit flag pole or Reddish Knob for the views, then come into town and hit a place to eat, tour campus, hit Kline's then ????

Probably just want to kill one full day

Come down to the Rockingham Count Fair and experience all that makes up this great region. People watching beyond measure, and deep fried Oreos.

I doubt it given it's the gubment and all. There a large banner that basically says "deal with it." I don't need it for another 1.5 months, so I'll start digging into it if I still don't have a response by EOM.

The extended partial government shutdown has resulted in a substantial backlog of CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) applications and renewals.
Applicants for Global Entry (GE), SENTRI, NEXUS and FAST should expect significant delays in application processing times and limited appointment availability at TTP enrollment centers.

Hopefully it pans out for you soon.

Global Entry saved me at least 45min this past trip. I know you can use the free App to get through immigration just as quick - but customs is where i avoided at least 45min worth of lines.

Last re-entry we had, they wouldn't even let us exit the jet way because the customs hall was too full. Everyone was frantically downloading that app because they told us you could skip the line and we luckily got ours done first, but the amount of hostility we experienced while moving to the front of the line was unpleasant. Having Global Entry wouldn't solve that piece, but at least you can flash the card and maybe people will actually let you pass.

RE: MM Sticker Found Under A Bus In Switzerland - Evan - 07-18-2019

14 weeks is pretty excessive. Have you at least done your interview yet? For us that was the slowest part, the TSA office at Dulles was backed up about 5 weeks. After the joke of an interview it was about 10 days to get the actual card.

Did you get your kid global entry? Unlike precheck a kid has to have their own global entry.
In Miami they were equipped to move people through really quickly so Global Entry wouldn't have made a difference anyhow, but that would suck if you went to all the trouble but couldn't actually use it.

No, I'm waiting for pre-approval before I can do the interview... which I'll hopefully be able to do upon re-entry in Sep. My kid got pre-approval in about a month.

That site also blames the "ongoing humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border" and says it could take up to 100 days. I'm currently at 99.

RE: MM Sticker Found Under A Bus In Switzerland - Jake - 07-22-2019

I got Global Entry done pretty easily. Took maybe... 4-5 weeks total?

RE: MM Sticker Found Under A Bus In Switzerland - Apoc - 07-22-2019

Filled out their online inquiry form and it told me to wait 10-15 business days for a response. It gave me a phone number to call if I needed immediate assistance. I called and after five minutes of them reading full website addresses to me with the explanation of how to use a browser, I hit zero for an operator. Another five minute wait and I hung up.

Well, I got a response same day... but it was basically a copy/paste from the help page. Yay government!

Response Via Email (Public Information Officer)

Thank you for contacting the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Information Center.

The extended partial government shutdown and the ongoing humanitarian and security crisis on our southern border have resulted in a substantial backlog of CBP's Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) applications and renewals.

Applicants for Global Entry (GE), SENTRI, NEXUS and FAST should expect significant delays in application processing times and limited appointment availability at TTP enrollment centers.

Answer Title: I have submitted my Trusted Traveler application for review. Did CBP receive my application?
Answer Link: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1332

You can check the status of your application from your TTP Dashboard at https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/, which is displayed after you login. Please make sure you are logging in with the email address that you submitted your application with.

If your application status is "Pending Review" then your application has been received and is being processed. Please note that processing times vary by applicant, but on average you can expect your application to be processed:

• Global Entry/FAST: up to 100 days
• NEXUS: 3-5 months
• SENTRI: 8-10 months

This includes vehicle enrollments. Again, these are average times - your application may take a SHORTER or LONGER time to process depending on what the vetting center determines, not when it was submitted. The vetting process cannot be expedited.

They are very responsive on Twitter. Really.

RE: MM Sticker Found Under A Bus In Switzerland - Apoc - 07-24-2019

Got my pre-approval today - 15 weeks.

My wife still hasn't gotten hers and she submitted a day before me.

MM Sticker Found Under A Bus In Switzerland - Senor_Taylor - 08-11-2019

Going to California around New Year's with the GF and have a Monday free to myself while she's at a wedding. Planning to rent a Miata on Turo and try to do something car related what day. We'll be near Long Beach. Any suggestions? Bare minimum going to cruise PCH one day and hopefully visit the Fast and Furious locations.

RE: MM Sticker Found Under A Bus In Switzerland - Goodspeed - 08-11-2019

PCH is great but it really gets magical past Malibu & on up towards San Luis Obispo. If you have enough time in the day, that'd be a fun ride. The only F&F location I visited was Neptune's Net on PCH which was a really cool spot.

You could also hit Mulholland Drive for checking a LA car-culture box.

My bucket list item though for LA is the Petersen Automotive Museum. It was closed for renovations last time I was there & looks like an amazing place.

FYI- Currently in Prague. By chance I ordered a replacement for our damaged card and got an RFID enabled card (without asking). Turns out most payments are RFID here and places like McDonalds didn't even have a place to swipe your card or use a chip.

Go eat at Cafe Lourvre. Probably one of the best meals of my life for the money. I think Ryan and I ate there at least 3 times while we were there? Then walk over to Groove Bar and get a beer.

I think maybe we're at different life stages. I prefer to pay to get right to the point.  Big Grin
