Got the fork mounted and started mocking up controls and planning out a gauge mount for the top triple pinch bolts. I originally had a relief cut so that the lower portion could bend and be one piece. I think I cut a little too much so it came off. Good first design so I may redo it and cut less of a relief in order to bend it over and be stable. You get the idea.

Have a slew of parts coming in:

- T-clamps for headlight
- Back half of speedo (mine is all busted up)
- Spears Racing Clutch cable (no factory bend so better pull and less interference with forks)
- Spears Racing 1/5 throttle
- Renthal grips
- Rare earth magnets/hall effect sensor to wire up speedo
- GSXR Front Fender
- Replacement headlight
- Fork spring compression tool

Thanks! I'm motivated to try and get it into a ride-able state by Christmas. I just ordered a new front tire so I'm hoping to get that mounted up this week along with the new clutch cable, finish controls (switches, throttle, grips, etc.), mount fender, mount headlight, and maybe have a decent working prototype for the gauge cluster. A large majority of the parts are coming in tomorrow and being off work Thursday and Friday should lend itself to getting it together! 

I would be thrilled to take it for a quick neighborhood ride on Xmas day.  Big Grin

Got a few parts in yesterday:

- Clutch cable (Installed)
- Throttle tube (Installed)
- T-clamp brackets (Installed)
- GSXR Front Fender (Mounted)
- Replacement Headlight (Mounted)
- Hall Effect sensor

Got the controls pretty much mounted up. Nothing is completely snug as I'm trying to fit this puzzle together piece by piece Cleaned up the front wheel/rotors and am going to take a stab at cleaning the front calibers since the new front tire will be here today. Hoping to have that mounted up by the end of the week. A little bit day by day.

I think I found a good solution to mounting up the gauge. Guy on SV Rider built drawings which mimick a now defunct company's product. Really nice template I can follow and cut. What I think I'll do is instead of running the supports down to the headlight, I'll run them to the pinch bolts to keep it tidy. This should do a better job of hiding the wiring. I may drill 2 extra small holes in the middle to zip tie the wiring harness up and out of the way or use a small brake-line hose clamp I'll steal off of Ryan's Miata while he is out of town...   Big Grin

You have to grind the Stoptech ones that are currently on the front, off... You're welcome to do that and I would appreciate the free labor so I can buy the Eastwood ones sooner Big Grin

I'll do you a even better favor and make a nice big cut in the UCAs with the angle grinder. Should give you the camber you need while simultaneously making room for the Eastwood clamps.

Need to finalize headlight and gauge, bleed brakes, and rebuild the forks. I wanted to get the front end together first so that after the fork rebuild I'll know how it all goes back together.

Plasti-dipped the headlight cover to black. Used to be chrome. Looks 1000x better and pulls the front end together.

In other news. I got the forks rebuilt tonight. Fresh oil seal, dust seals, and new 5WT oil. If anyone needs forks rebuilt bring em to me and a solid 6er of beer. I'm a pro now. Tomorrow I'll get them back in the triples and then all that is left is the speedo mount and hall effect sensor for speed.

Are they standard USD forks? The "special" tool is just a clip you use to break the torque on the jam nut for the fork damper cap. We can easily bang it out in a hour? You going to do a basic service (oil seal, dust seal, fluid)?

Welp, that's about a wrap folks. Beyond getting the gauge mounted she's 95% there. Fresh forks, brakes (F/R), and everything is torqued to spec. I found some pipe clamps at HD with rubber that I cut to size for the t-clamps. It cleans things up very nicely and prevents the clamps from scratching those lovely gold fork tubes. I also switched over to a deeper brake fluid reservoir to prevent any issues there. Quite a rewarding project and she's got the looks to kill. She's pretty much ready for the 2019 track season. Well, except for some new well-deserved frame sliders..

I could go to smaller LEDs, but it's discussed many times that they are MUCH harder to see during the day. I have seen guys trim them down, but for now I'll leave them.

Complete front end swap from a 04/05 GSXR-600/750. What do I get?
  • Bigger fork sanctions (41mm stock vs 51mm GSXR) so the front end is more solid
  • Giant stepup in suspension adjustment (Stock is only preload vs GSXR has preload, rebound, and compression dampening)
  • Now the front can be tuned with the rear ZX10R shock I have (preload, rebound, compression) for a dialed in suspension
  • MASSIVE upgrade in braking power
  • Radial brakes for improved braking feel
  • 120/70 vs 120/60 front tire for better turn in
  • Bling factor
  • Overall for the street it's mostly bling, but as a track weapon it's going to handle like it's on rails
  • Being it's in the Suzuki family I keep the factory location for the ignition as well as my steering lock (good luck bike bandits) making it a 90% bolt on upgrade sans the gauge and headlight mount. You re-use all of the stock SV650 controls except for the GSXR radial brake cylinder.
