Another abusive relationship unfolds before our eyes

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - SlimKlim - 07-07-2016

Step 1: Apply for 0% intro rate credit card
Step 2: Use Venmo or another stupid, needlessly-complicated-in-the-name-of-social-media-integrated-"simplicity" app to pay Scott for the blue '92
Step 3: Install good blue motor in red car.
Step 4: Install shitty motor in blue car.
Step 5: Drop brick on gas of blue car.
Step 6: "Officer/Claim Adjuster I don't know what happened, it hit the tree SO HARD that I can't even find the damn fenders or front bumper.
Step 7: Get insurance payout for blue car to pay off 0% card
Step 8: Enjoy the rarity of the only 1.6L '95 M edition and satisfaction of pulling off insurance fraud.

:dunno:

I shouldn't have tried advice. Should just enjoy the ride Wink

Those compression numbers look low, with lower compression it should be a good turbo motor. I heard Godspeed turbo kits on ebay are showing good results.

Is Venmo really that hard for you? :dunno:

If I drain the oil out and replace it with Canola oil, do you think my compression numbers will come up? Maybe at least I could make some fried chicken in the oil pan.

haha, i messaged him outside of this. It's stupid easy to set up. Enter debit card number, find person, enter amount. Not sure how you make that easier. Click "participants only" if it bothers you that much.

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - Senor_Taylor - 07-07-2016

Guys, I'm an idiot. I just realized I was so tired last night that I did the compression test without putting my foot on the gas pedal at all.

Megan the Merlot M edition - ViPER1313 - 07-07-2016

2 questions - are you holding the throttle open wide when you are cranking the motor during the compression test? Are the spark plug wells clean so the rubber o ring on the tester makes a good seal?

Edit - just saw you didn't put your foot on the pedal - yea, do that Wink

Even if it comes back low, f-it, it's not the end of the world. If its driving well, enjoy it!

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - SlimKlim - 07-07-2016

I've used it. I'm not saying it's not easy to use, it's just another service that that fills a need no one has. I don't need to route my money through any more third parties than absolutely necessary. I also hate that the default is to publicly share all of your transactions.

Yes, I'm a Luddite. Yes, I still carry cash. Get off my lawn and leave me alone.

FTFY  Makes more sense now though. I never carry cash (like most others I know) so Venmo is properly fitting when it comes time to split the sunday funday brunch bill with the bros.

Senor_Taylor Wrote:Does it really matter to park the car? There's 0% chance on this earth I have the money to replace rings on this until I graduate. It's made it this long and runs fine. Hell, I'm using a Harbor Freight gauge, so maybe it's reading low.

Depends on what matters to you. If you park it now, you have a relatively easy fix, or you can drive it, drop a valve and destroy the entire motor. It could be a compression ring or a valve not seating.

Or it could be fine forever. However, with your car luck........

We know.

Yeah, do that and repeat the test and post compression numbers. Also do a leakdown test.

1.6L was available in Europe and Japan through 2004 I believe, so there is a chance there are more.

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - SlimKlim - 07-07-2016

Ooh see it'd be JDM Taylor. That adds like 50 scene points to any car. My plan seems flawless.

Re: Megan the Merlot M edition - WRXtranceformed - 07-07-2016

It's probably not a good idea to autocross it like you posted on facebook until you figure out if it is an actual motor problem or just you not properly diagnosing a motor problem

OK but like, why don't we just use PayPal? Which has been around forever..

Because it's new and cool and requires like 0 security checks. It will used until the next new payment system comes out...

I was using PayPal for so long then all the people my age were like why aren't you using Venmo...

Because sending money with PayPal without having any fees used to be a major pain in the ass. Less so now, but it's too late. Venmo is also much quicker than a PayPal transaction.

How much quicker?
