I know this isnt what i said i was looking for, but i posted because it seems like a really good price for that vintage. Do those have some major problem that could be why this one is a few grand cheaper than ive been coming across them?

The HPFP issues that plagued them forever seem to finally have been fixed. I think they would make a great daily. Track car? no.

I probably won't touch one because turbo. I was instructing a 135i with less than 3,000 miles on it and it broke one of the intercooler pipes and consequently the BOV. Yay bmw plastic. I am just too hard on cars for complex systems.

Re: Want a new daily - Evan - 10-29-2013

cant even be bothered to wipe off the baked on brake dust before taking forsale pictures, let alone wash it?

bad sign, i wouldnt touch it.

Re: Want a new daily - Jake - 10-29-2013

No sport seats, pass. Plus the horrible presentation that Evan mentioned.

Yeah i dont know what i was actually thinking on that one...right after that i found one for 14-something so yeah..pass

Re: Want a new daily - HAULN-SS - 11-03-2013

man. i can't hardly find shit. I am thinking about ditching the search for something old but good, and getting something much newer but good. What do you guys think of a 2013 ATS iwth the 2.0 turbo and 6MT?

I sat in one when they first came out, and the CUE system impressed, as well as the overall fit and finish. Moore cadillac has one in chantilly in black I could probably get for around 28-29 with 18k miles onit.

That looks pretty nice. Great color and seems cared for.

Yes.

Re: Want a new daily - WRXtranceformed - 11-04-2013

The ATS was in the running for me for my new car if you remember. It's a fantastic car. It's just a bit small, there is basically no legroom in teh backseat if that matters at all. It's also American so expect a lot of annoying stuff to start happening between 30-60K

Re: Want a new daily - HAULN-SS - 11-04-2013

I have liked them for a while, but I didnt realize until recently that they were getting to be in the under 30 range for the 2.0t version. The 2.5L have been there for a while, but all reports are that engine is anemic. I have sat in a few when they were first coming out but I didnt like the idea of paying 35+ for one

yes
no brainer

Re: Want a new daily - WRXtranceformed - 11-04-2013

If you are patient and can wait a few more years when they come off lease, you can probably find some 3.6 premiums in that price range. In that chassis it is a far better car and the premium trim adds a ton of nice options. If you don't care about that I thought the 2.0T was a perfectly fine engine that obviously ran out of breath quickly up top.

Re: Want a new daily - SlimKlim - 11-04-2013

Since we're talking about new slightly-under-$30k-ish cars now, the F30 328i's are getting into that range with a CPO warranty, but you'd have a bitch of a time finding a 3 pedaled car. There was one in the country last time I ran an autotrader search. Wouldn't be surprised if you got shit for options compared to a Caddy for the same amount of money too. Lately BMW seems like they'd charge you extra for the windshield if they could.

If you don't care about drive wheels, what about a used '11 or '12 Optima Turbo? Really nicely appointed, oodles of turbocharged horsepower and a ridiculously awesome warranty. No manual option as far as I know though.

Again, if FWD doesn't rustle your jimmies, you could get a '12 VW CC R-line. Really solidly optioned car, manual trans, sexy looks, and an APR tune will give you tons of torque without messing up the warranty. You could get one with virtually no miles for under $25k and ~4years/50k of bumper-to-bumper warranty (cause you're gonna need it).

For that matter, if the previous suggestion didn't just make you barf all over your shoes, you could pick up a reasonably well optioned CPO A4. I think Audi is combating the fact that their products suck by offering insanely good CPO warranties, if you bought right you could spend $28-29k for like 5-6 years (and a ton of miles) of warranty coverage.

Ok, this one is weird, stick with me here. How about a Buick?

http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?endYear=2014&zip=22030&transmissionCode=MAN&transmissionCodes=MAN&showcaseListingId=354930366&trim1=REG%7CGS&mmt=%5BBUICK%5BREG%5BREG%257CGS%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&modelCode1=REG&sortBy=distanceASC&makeCode1=BUICK&startYear=1981&showcaseOwnerId=1361346&searchRadius=0&listingId=352891673&Log=0

Regal GS. Manual trans, 270hp/295ft-lbs turbo-4, FWD, cushy buicky appointments, pretty damn good looking little car, I believe it is a rebadged Opel or something. Probably not the "best" in the market in any respect, but I'm such a sucker for weird cars, and a Buick with a turbo and manual trans is definitely weird.

Re: Want a new daily - HAULN-SS - 11-04-2013

I actually was checking out some 328s/335s at carmax over the weekend. They had one manual 2007 335 that was black/red which I did like, but had sold earlier in the day. You're damn right about the options being quite spartan for the cost on the newer ones =( That's why I had been looking some at previous gen ones..i have no idea how they justify their cost on the new ones..and dont get me started on a now 4 year old 1 series.

I have been in an Optima turbo and they just dont do it for me. My neighbors back home had one and i could have even bought it cheap, but I dunno..just couldnt get into it.

The audi/vw scare me because even with that much warranty I will be through it in <2 yrs if i keep living in west va (plan is to move in spring, but you never know).

The next buick I buy better have the initials GN.

I wish GM made anything worth a shit in the last 10 years so there would be some few year old cars out there that I'd want to buy. And of course, still on the lookout for a 2004-2006ish zhp..that was the best suggestion yet, but there are a lot of retards out there asking 18k for a 10 year old car.

Re: Want a new daily - HAULN-SS - 11-07-2013

welp. went to moore cadillac yesterday to look at a car they had. It wasnt in because someone from HR had taken it home for the night. I looked at a used auto they had, and then test drove a 2.0/6MT premium. Now, this car, as i told them, was way out of my league because 1) I am looking for a used car and 2) The premium trim is expensive as shit (magenetic ride control, HUD, driver awareness, etc etc)

Anyway, then last night i found a deal on one in connecticut that was more in my price range. I sent an email to the guy in chantilly with the link to the ad. He replies back that it is a "bait car" and doesnt really exist, based on the VIN. However, I had the carfax already so I emailed that to him, which is clear (car has 300 miles, but is "used"). Long story short, now all of a sudden they are ready to "give a smoking deal" on the new 2.0 Premium. So we'll see what happens.

Re: Want a new daily - WRXtranceformed - 11-07-2013

Yeah dude! Now you're thinking with your head! The premium trim is what you want, otherwise you're just getting another rental car with a Cadillac badge

Re: Want a new daily - SlimKlim - 11-08-2013

So you're buying a brandy new 2.0 Premium six speed?

Bad ass.

Re: Want a new daily - ViPER1313 - 11-08-2013

So we start looking for a 540i M Sport with under 100k miles, I find it, and we are now onto a brand new ATS.... Only in MM. For that price - G8?

2013 2.0t, 6MT Premium trim. I need to get a few better pics of the interior and the cluster area because this thing lights up like a GD spaceship.
Has every option you can get..highlights:

Brembos, ZF electric steering, magnetic shocks, heads up display, driver awareness package, cue+nav

about 12.5k on the clock after driving it back from CT last night. Only problems I can really find is that there is one rim that has a bad case of curb rash, and there are some hang-down plastic trim pieces on the rear bumper that look like someone somehow backed over a concrete curb, even though theres an 8" video monitor showing where you're backing up. Will have to address those issues in forthcoming project thread.
