Jeep has been a "project" jeep just sitting for the past 3 weeks with NO time to fix her. Thankfully I ride the metro everyday into the city for work.

I blew a u joint cap on the way home from a camping trip about 10 minutes from the house (THANK GOD) and had to get her towed to a buddies place where I could yank the inner shaft and drive it home.

I blame myself for slightly bending the shaft ears and then touching them up with a dremel. I suspect the diameter of the hole is ever so slightly larger.

I figured I'd just tack those suckers on and carry a file in the jeep. Hopefully, they'll last long enough until I need new u joints or just go chromalloy axle shafts.

After finally being able to drive her I have a pretty heft "to-do" list. Much of it still is the same before I head to Rausch Creek in a month. Need to track down a nice "clunk" in my track bar. I'm going to attempt to tighten all the drop mount bolts the best I can.

Also need to remove the frameside track bar bolt, recenter the Johnny Joint, re-tighten the jam nut and reinstall. Hoping this will relive the "clunk"

Bilstein replacement bushings should be here Tuesday so I need to get the old ones pressed out, new ones pressed in and 5100's installed! Bar pin eliminators should make this job easy.

I need to get my JCR sliders installed but that will have to wait until later in July.

Lot's of little things that just take time and not a lot of money..

Mainly just finding the time working 10-12 hours a day with a half hour metro commute each way and a crappy condo parking garage to work in. :finger:

Got the bilsteins installed. Butt dyno says the jeep feels a lot more firm. I have a long weekend with a fair amount of highway driving so we shall see how they do.

The fronts, in terms of the rod length are much longer than the rubi shocks I had. I should be able to get some good droop out of them with the bpe's installed and a trim of the coil bucket.

The rears, are maybe half an inch shorter than the rubis in OAL, but I noticed the rod itself is actually longer than the rubis and the shock body is shorter. I may have sacrificed some up travel here. However, with the bpe's I may have gained down travel or at least greatly improved on the the quality in the travel I have.

Probably should grab those DIY beadlocks bumpstop spring plates to prevent damaging the shock.

Past few weeks have been love/hate.

Developed a radiator leak in the upper radiator hose. There was no more plastic shielding so a bolt on the AC condenser melted a pin prick hole. $16 later and it was replaced.

After changing the rear diff fluid and the upper radiator house I couldn't get the jeep to start. She had full power but would just crank, crank, and crank and not turn over.

Turns out, 95% of the time, it's going to be a bad crank position sensor if those are the symptons.

Napa had a sensor in stock from their premium line. This is as good if not better than OEM. The interwebz say this is one of those parts that you should cough up the money for OEM or NAPA premium as most of the other brands box auto shops carry are garbage.

As a side note, maybe I should just rename this thread "Project Overkill".

Received my DIY Beadlocks spring plates with bump stop provisions. At 3/8" steel, Jesus titty fawking Christ these things are just beef. USPS had to repackage them because the little priority mail box couldn't handle the trip from Cali.

Apparently, this company primarily manufactures steel shooting targets and picked up a side-business selling 4x4 beadlocks and such... I like their diversification.

I'll get them installed this weekend with the sliders at the Summit Point Bed and Breffiss. :thumbup:

I'm gonig to send Sylvia to work in the integra on saturday... I need your help tracing a coolant issue. its not leaking on the ground, there is no white smoke, there is a sweet smell and it is losing coolant slowly Sad

Uh oh... Confusedhock: I hope it's not what I think it is..Though no white smoke makes me think not a HG issue.

I wonder if it's leaking at the heater core into the cabin somewhere..? That may be a source of coolant loss and smell. :dunno:

If it is the heater core, replace the a/c evaporator while you are in there. Pretty sure those things fail on the Wranglers same as they do on the XJ. You don't want to have to pull the dash twice. Wasn't too bad of a job on the XJ though.

there is almost no smell in the cabin. it does smell in the engine bay. but its got all new everything in there.

Water pump? Some say it can leak there without showing.

Kaan and a buddy and I wrestled some sliders under the jeep this past weekend. A quick oil change tonight and I'd say she's ready for Rausch Creek. :thumbup:

Fresh oil and an extended rear brake line went on last night. Thought I did a "meh" job bleeding the rear brakes.

AND before everyone get's all butt hurt about bleeding brakes they work just fine for the application at hand. I tested them. :thumbup:

Need to load up the jeep with all our camping shit and what-not. Tools live in the jeep already.
