I can tell you for my prescription it's not the frames that are the expensive part. My vision is so bad I need stupid thick lenses. I don't want to rock coke bottles so I have them cut thinner and once you have that done and add on the anti-scratch/reflective coating the price skyrockets. I could never get away with $95 frames and lenses. I can't even imagine how shitty those would be.

I have a pair and they're fine. Gotten lots of compliments on them.

This all reminds me that I need new glasses but am waaayyy to poor to buy them. I'll just keep using my scratched ones I think.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Jake - 09-07-2015

I got my most recent pair from Warby Parker. I dig 'em and they were cheap - and I'm -8.50 in both eyes. It was impressive how thin they got the lenses.

That said, I wear contacts 99% of the time - but glasses on weekend mornings or weeknights at home. And I bring my glasses on any sort of trip, in case contacts tear or otherwise fail me.

Does that mean you can't wear contacts?

JPolen01 Wrote:. My most recent pair cost me about $400. But they are the fanciest zeiss astronaut anti-glare shatterproof smudge proof lenses you can buy so that makes it okay, right?
Dude that shit is so overhyped. You don't need half that. I think the only thing mine has is the anti-glare and anti scratch. Even then it didn't cost near $400. I will say my first two frames i can remember weren't the best structurally and they were definitely cheap, but the one i have now i spent more on (still under $200) and its awesome, no problems, I've sat on them, slept on them, dropped them...you name it..

I'm gonna check out warby parker like Jake said. I'm tired of looking at these frames in the mirror, plus the black is starting to fade on the front and the little rubber piece that rest on your nose fell out (one of them). Plus my mom allows me a new frame like every 2 years and its been like 3 so time for new ones yay. My parents insurance usually covers one (or most of the price) a new frame for me. I'm gonna shop around for some good "buy one get half off the other" frames and see if I can get prescription sunglasses. I used to wear contacts all the time but then i started getting eye infections. My eyes are too dry and get vulnerable if I wear contacts too much so they're pretty much reserved for rough activities when glasses would be inconvenient.

20/15 and 20/20 suckas :p

It really pisses me off that I have to park my car way down the street in visitor's spots. It's an extra $15 a month to get a second parking pass for the Miata here in Copper.

That's... really cheap.

$180 a year to park at my own house? This isn't NOVA...

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Sully - 09-07-2015

I'm not really aware of any other apartment complexes that will even sell you a second pass.

Pheasant wouldn't as far as i know. They also wouldn't let us keep motorcycles in the kitchen. Assholes.

How inconsiderate. Family room seems like the next logical choice.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Sully - 09-07-2015

Did it a few times before they caught us. The best was probably when I came home from work at like 4:30 in the morning and drove it through the front door to find several people crashing on couches and the floor of the living room. I'm sure that was an interesting night for them

Yeah, Pheasant wouldn't sell you a second pass at all. I got around it by finding a friend who didn't own a car, and he was willing to put the E30 in his name and got me a pass for it.

And maybe I'm just jaded from (now) years of seeing countless apartments with only one parking spot included in rent, or no parking standard, or whatever... I'd happily pay $15 a month to "legally" park a second car and ensure it wouldn't be towed. These complexes can't just hand out free unlimited parking... the place that Joey and I lived at in Fairfax tried it and ended up implementing passes after we moved out (unrelated to us, I'm positive) -- we may have had five cars in the lot that were "ours" and you can't have every tenant doing that...

Not saying I agree, just that I get it.

My vision isn't really bad enough to warrant contacts. One pair is for long distance, and the other pair is for the computer/reading and I'll use them "as needed" according to the Dr. I only need a mild correction at both distances, but it takes me too long to refocus from something up close to something far away, hopefully wearing glasses and reducing strain now will slow down the decline.

All I know is my checking account is quivering in fear, I want a drink, and in a week I'll probably have less headaches.

Just sayin' :dunno:

I know I know, I was blissfully naive about how much insurance was going to cover, then I was chicken to back out after I had tried on every single goddamn pair of frames in the store. When it comes time to update them in a few years I'll be bargain hunting like crazy.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - WRXtranceformed - 09-08-2015

Back when I lived in the ghetto (Hunter's Ridge) there was plenty of free parking in that big gravel lot in the middle. Of course you risked getting your car keyed (like mine did) or vandalized in some other way. But it was free!

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Ken - 09-08-2015

I've had the same pair for like 7 years now - nothing fancy on the lenses and they work fine. For a while I used them everyday M-F but now I just wear my dailies (contacts). Can't use normal contacts since I get some kind of allergic reaction after more than two days that causes painful little lumps in my eyelids. I have been looking at a new pair though - think I say a nice pair of Raybans and with script and everything was like $200? Not too bad.

Also, for the parking, $15 is nothing, even in Hburg. That's like, 3 lunches. God I wish parking was that much up here, I'm thrilled since I have to pay "only" $160 a month. I was paying $180 a month for a not even covered parking space previous to that.

I ordered a bunch when I was due for my last glasses. They may look nice, but they're pieces of shit. None sit correctly on my face.

Yeah, I have to pay to park at work... I was super happy when a coworker left for grad school and transferred his parking permit in a different garage to me. Went from $170/mo to $110.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?! - SlimKlim - 09-08-2015

I have yet to rent a parking space and I don't intend to start.
