ScottyB Wrote:from what i've read, their internal organization was garbage. entire groups of inventory not even in the system or written down haphazardly.
So is this the level of due diligence that nearly all the major auto manufacturers use to find component vendors?
"Um, who's everyone else using? And the customer only experiences the product when they're being punched in the face by it? AND they're cheap? Well hell put them in the spec!"

ScottyB Wrote:I guess a lack of competition will do that to you.
Well now that you mention it why am I not surprised. Government mandated approach ends up with lowest bidder, poor quality, and no competition? OMG NO WAY, LET'S GET THEM INVOLVED WITH HEALTHCARE.

More trouble for the VAG Group. Recalling 92,000 cars due to failing camshaft lobes. Will Volkswagen continue to destroy itself? Tune in next week to find out!

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 11-04-2015

It makes car ownership more exciting. See you guys just start your car and go to work, but I get the daily thrill of wondering if my brake pedal will suddenly stop working.

And it helps you stick to your commitments, some people might think it's a downside that your $31,000 brand new car is now worth less than the paper the loan is drafted on, but really it's liberating to know that you can't sell it in the next 10 years, keeps you from cruising autotrader all day.

And boy, I sure am glad I bought it back in April when $500 under invoice was the best price anyone could get, going in post-Dieselgate and picking one up for $5k off MSRP would just feel like shooting fish in a barrel, there's no challenge in it.

Glad you're staying positive, Joey!

Sell yours at a huge loss and buy another at the new low price! It's a win, win!

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 11-04-2015

You joke, but people on VWVortex are trading in '15s for '16s just to get the updated head unit.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 11-04-2015

Quote:Update: We called VW for more info, and they told us the GTI is actually not part of this recall.

Well I got one thing going for me I guess.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 11-04-2015

Are people really getting GTI's for $5k under invoice?

Re: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 11-04-2015

you have to beware of internet braggards who like to say they did, anyway. Same as the people who somehow get 58mpg out of these VWs..bullshit

Our TDI regularly gets ~52 and above 55 on the highway depending on speed. :dunno:

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 11-05-2015

I meant MSRP, and people are claiming at least $4k off, but who knows what's really happening.

And I believe in the 50s for the TDIs, I let Lauren drive it to her parents to pick our dog up when we got back from vacation, I looked up at one point and the thing was reading 39.5. :dunno:

Who pays MSRP? I start negotiating at invoice...

I'm tempted to move on from the 9 year old audi, but $4k off MSRP is basically invoice less the $2k customer loyalty bonus that VW is paying so not that great :dunno:

I may go in there and poke around to see if place has tumbleweeds blowing around and salesmen foaming at the mouth.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 11-05-2015

Is this because your Audi happens to still be in pieces in DJs garage?

39.5 is probably about right. Ive driven mine like 8k miles so far. The most I have EVER gotten is 44.5 for a particular drive. Sure maybe you can get 50mpg if you drive 5 miles down the interstate hypermiling at 40mph downhill, but not averaged over something that's a real drive.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 11-05-2015

Well I mean, the reason we were able to get 39.5 out of a GTI is because we had been coasting on the highway in 6th at like 1400rpms for 45 minutes. Stop and go traffic will easily drop you under 20mpg if you aren't careful. I tend to average low 20s for my daily stop & go commute. I'm a little embarrassed to admit how excited I am to hypermile it for 4 hours when I go to my parents for thanksgiving, just to see how much I can squeeze out of it.

I learned to drive in a 1998 TDI 5-spd and that thing averaged 50-53mpg no matter how we drove it. Granted, it spent it's life shuttling from Bedford VA to Roanoke VA and back again, I also used to frequently get 36+mpg out of my Saab on that drive.

Re: Automotive News Discussion - Mike - 11-05-2015

I'd see mid to high 30s in the GTI for highway cruises so 50 out of a TDI should be cake.

Anyway, y'all heard they extended the claim to the 3.0 TDI? http://autoweek.com/article/car-news/di ... er-engines. I think I read somewhere that the emissions are only 9x the limit as opposed to 40x for that though so not too bad Tongue

Company is straight f'd.

Cool story. Who said anything about paying MSRP? I used it as a metric to describe the discounts people are allegedly getting. I also could've said they paid $3000 under invoice, or $66,000 less than $100,000. Or that they paid $24,000 for a GTI S w/lighting package, but didn't have to give the dealership four potatoes.

I just meant, 4k below MSRP on a mid-optioned GTI at the dealer is...kind of about what I'd expect to score on like, a tuesday. Doesn't seem like anything to crow about on the internets.

4k off invoice, on the other hand, might be something else entirely.
