Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Evan - 02-06-2013

"limit: 2"

would do the same thing without contributing to the inflated price problem.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Jewels - 02-06-2013

Dennis at Ashby Arms is getting Pmags in, and he's going to be selling them for $20. I think still limit 2. But he's refusing to kill people with prices. He's still making good money on the Pmags selling them at $20. So I think that's a good fair thing to do.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-07-2013

Thoughts on the Apex kit? Have heard only good things about it.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="https://apextactical.com/store/product-info.php?pid65.html">https://apextactical.com/store/product- ... pid65.html</a><!-- m -->

Liking the Shield more and more but even with practice it is not quite as accurate as I would like. I don't really want to go through the hassle of selling it and I have heard this should help.

Nice, that's right, I remember you posting up about that.

Also any recommendations for tactical vests would be good. I found a few I liked so far.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 02-07-2013

Tac vest for what purpose?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 02-07-2013

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 02-07-2013

How do you like it so far?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Apoc - 02-07-2013

It's actually more solid than I expected, given the price. I think opening it quickly is going to take a bit of practice. The buttons are stiff and the knob kinda needs a small tweak in the other direction to uncatch the lock, but that might be because it's brand new. I think a bit of muscle memory can easily overcome it. Given the choice of a solid lock that requires deliberate actions and something flimsy, I'd choose the former.

The mounting hardware they include is kinda a joke. It's essentially inch long machine screws with nuts; I'm not really sure what practical application they have unless you're mounting it to a thin metal desk drawer.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Evan - 02-07-2013

Ive been using that for a few months.

Its a deal for $35 but its not perfect. The knob on mine is really hard to turn. The buttons give off really loud beeps when you press them. Neither of which is ideal if youve got a bad guy in the house.
It is definitely heavy and sturdy, make no mistake.

Mounting these to a nightstand drawer is pointless and stupid. Any thief who wants your safe is just going to pull out the drawer and take it.

Someday Ill get a biometric safe but this is good in the meantime.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Mike - 02-07-2013

So discovered my grandfather left around some guns (I knew this last year, but was dealing with some g-ma shit and didn't have time to pay attention).

A few shit-ass rusted up handguns that appear to be beyond repair (will get more info later) and a JC Higgins/Sears .22 rifle. After some research, it's a rebadged Marlin 81 from the 50s. And it shoots. Only worth $100 or so, but a family gun is cool no matter.

My Mom is being all goofy about giving it to me (Grandma is still alive and Mom is just plain goofy due to her condition) so looks like I won't be getting it (when I really do want a .22 right now and they're surely not going to use it) for awhile.

Old people...

So just mags? Or do you need a plate carrier? Does it need to integrate into your backpack? Are you going to carry your pistol high on the vest or at the belt?

How many mags do you want to carry? Is this for HD or for SHTF or for Competition?

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - CaptainHenreh - 02-07-2013

This is what I used for my recent carbine class:

Along with a "3-mag" molle panel on the left side and a 2 mag pouch at my left kidney:

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - JustinG - 02-08-2013

Soooooo......after ordering my upper from PSA, the upper I wanted more popped up on AIMsurplus.com.

$30 more bucks and it included the BCG and a charging handle.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=XAIM16LWT&name=AIM+16%22+CHF+Midlength+MOE+.223%2f5.56+Lightweight+URG&groupid=586">http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx? ... roupid=586</a><!-- m -->

So I cancelled my order with PSA, or so I thought. It showed up today, but no worries I already have a buyer. That didn't stop me from mocking up what my AR will look like when my AIM upper arrives on Monday.

Also decided that I would give a Primary Arms red dot a look, per the recommendation of Rexy pants.

It was a very affordable clone of an Aimpoint T-1.

Ordered the optional tall QD mount. Its no LaRue mount but it works.

This model came with a kill flash that screws on...kinda cool.

Adjustment knob feels solid. Haven't messed with the reticle adjustments.

I think I am going to be super happy with this setup. Really excited to get this thing running and find some ammo.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - Mike - 02-11-2013

i think evan had mentioned hitting up a wallyworld for ammo... i was in bumfuck, nc all last week (two fully stocked walmarts, but serving a population of about fifteen each) and neither had more than bird shot in stock. don't waste your time.

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-11-2013

Installed the Magpul ASAP sling plate over the weekend, pretty slick. Now my sling works great. Really happy I had my friend help me who was knowledgeable about doing such things (and had an AR wrench). Also cleaned the weapon for the second time and am becoming much more familiar with disassembly, etc. I decided that I would like to pick up a new Larue mount for the 3x magnifier, the one it came with just doesn't hold the scope firmly enough. Along with a .22, I have been looking at the Tavor SAR as a future rifle purchase (who knows when) and I will probably swap the Aimpoint and this scope onto it and add a higher power scope to the AR.

yep. I didnt waste my time either

gunshow certainly isnt helping things either

the wait continues

btw, the NRA range has ammo. not great prices (9mm for $17....) and they will only sell if youre shooting, but its nice to have an option

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-12-2013

And I was crazy for pulling the trigger on 1k rounds for $480 :p
hopefully the prices will normalize eventually

Re: Official MM Firearms Thread - WRXtranceformed - 02-12-2013

Buddy of mine through the Lexus forums has New Frontier Armory lowers in stock. PM me if you want a price, they are reasonable:
