Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 10-20-2015 Goodspeed Wrote:G.Irish Wrote:That said, I really am working myself up to buying a sub-2000 lbs track-day special instead of a stupid and heavy sports car. I have a devil on one shoulder saying 'add lightness', a devil on the other shoulder saying 'but you want a superkaa' and a third devil on my head saying, 'If you want something ridiculous, a Ninja H2 with a kit puts out 280+ hp...'.
Re: Automotive News Discussion - .RJ - 10-20-2015 Radical or GTFO Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 10-20-2015 Goodspeed Wrote:Just buy an Ariel Atom, sub 2k lbs AND supercar performance, with the most excellent Honda powertrain I know you'd appreciate. The Atom would be the frontrunner but they're a lot more expensive than a Zenos, even when used. So my shortlist right now is Zenos E10S -> Atom 3 -> Radical Only thing with the Radical is it's not street legal in any way shape or form. But it's way fucking faster than anything else. Re: Automotive News Discussion - SlimKlim - 10-20-2015 My latest unrealistic daydream is taking a "cheap" kit car like an Exocet and doing a different drivetrain (I like the idea of an AP1 S2k motor with a Comptech blower) and sort of designing my own interior and body. Seems simple, all I'd need is a fully stocked machine shop, 3D printer, a few years worth of fiberglass laying experience, professional bodywork experience, a mechanical engineering degree, and another $20-30k cash. Re: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 10-20-2015 Um. BAC Mono. Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 10-20-2015 rherold9 Wrote:Um. BAC Mono. They're too pricey to start, and probably not as fast as a Radical SR8, although realistically I would get a SR3 if I went the Radical route. Re: Automotive News Discussion - *insertusernamehere* - 10-20-2015 I'd just love a caterham. May not be as fast but the design does it for me. Spec lightweight in MM 10 years from now? Everyone's got that one barebones car they want haha Re: Automotive News Discussion - Senor_Taylor - 10-21-2015 The new crawl control on the new Tacomas is pretty cool. Granted if you've ever wheeled before, you know it's not all that impressive since they're going downhill, and spinning the wheels the opposite way of the pile of dirt. Still a neat feature. I wonder how it will work in the real world? Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 10-21-2015 G, have you looked at the DF Goblin? its not exceptionally fast but its very accessible and the componentry is very easy to squirrel together since its GM econocar stuff. from a performance engineering perspective its not as pure (rear mcstrut) as other choices like the atom/caterham/radical because its obviously trying to work within a realm of easy to source parts, but it seems to leverage the low weight/power to weight thing very well. http://dfkitcar.com/ https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum ... 454/page1/ Re: Automotive News Discussion - G.Irish - 10-21-2015 Hadn't actually seen that one. Seems a bit scary on with side driver exposure but seems like a solid concept. As you said, I don't know that I'd be cool with the mcstruts though. Part of the allure of these cars is the inboard suspension you can get on them. At $20k it's pretty cheap but I'd rather pay a bit more and get that Zenos or a used Atom (which apparently used Spec Race Atoms are under $40k now). Re: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 10-27-2015 Um. I can't believe no one has talked about the RX-Vision concept ![]() ![]() People already putting renders of it up. Re: Automotive News Discussion - HAULN-SS - 10-28-2015 Looks good..what is there, about an 8% chance it makes it like this to production before 2020? Re: Automotive News Discussion - rherold9 - 10-28-2015 HAULN-SS Wrote:Looks good..what is there, about an 8% chance it makes it like this to production before 2020? I'm thinking there will be some type of working car by the 50th anniversary of Mazda Rotary cars so by late 2017 earlier 2018 Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 10-28-2015 HAULN-SS Wrote:what is there, about an 8% chance it makes it like this to production before 2020?Exactly why no one is talking about it. Concept cars in the initial unveil stage are stupid. Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 10-28-2015 Cayman GT4 Clubsport rumored to start at $165k. Good luck Gerald! First unit should be hitting the US February 2016. http://www.automobilemag.com/features/n ... at-165000/ Re: Automotive News Discussion - JPolen01 - 11-03-2015 Takata hit with largest civil penalty in HTSA history -$200 million. $70 million cash due up front w/ possibility for $130 million more if they don't stop fucking up. http://jalopnik.com/takata-just-got-sla ... 1740348542 Re: Automotive News Discussion - ScottyB - 11-04-2015 ![]() let 'em burn. its not like they were making bad window switches or something trivial. from what i've read, their internal organization was garbage. entire groups of inventory not even in the system or written down haphazardly. i guess a lack of competition will do that to you. |
