Going through the process of updating my personal CC number on every payment site / app after a vendor breach and auto-reissue of a new credit card. I log into Uber to update it, which is perfect because I also just got a new corporate credit card. App breaks with an error when I try to update my personal card, also breaks when I try to update my corporate card. Doesn't allow me to connect Paypal when I try that. Uninstall / reinstall app, same problem. After some digging it turns out that UBER HAS NO ACTUAL CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER TO CALL TO FIX THESE THINGS. Literally the only option other than the "Help" section of the app and website is to sign up for a Twitter account and direct message someone at Uber on Twitter. I know HOW to add and change payments but I have no way to call you to help me FIX it when your service breaks. I have a work trip on Tuesday that I was planning on using Uber for like I usually do, but I'm not signing up for another trash social media service I don't need just to see if you can figure out how to get your application to work and take my payment. So now I spend that time instead signing up for your competitor Lyft, which had absolutely no problems taking both forms of payment AND signing up for a separate business profile (Uber broke when I tried to do this too). YOU HAVE TO HAVE CUSTOMER SERVICE FOR YOUR SERVICE OFFERINGS. You literally cannot solve complex customer problems through a mobile application or by tweeting. RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - .RJ - 11-02-2018 I've long had the idea for a recurring payment manager app/service, I guess kind of similar to Stripe. I deal with all of this shit about once a year whenever a CC gets compromised. That's the workaround I was hoping for with Uber, but none of the payment adding / updating options were working including adding Paypal. Ironically, it had no problem deleting an old card number I had in there. RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 11-02-2018 Yeah, there are a bunch of central payment systems (amazon payments anyone?), but the problem is with the service/good providers themselves. It'd be great something like Apple/Google Pay would just use a fingerprint scanner to enter credit card info, even if the website/app hasn't added it on their site. It could use RPA to navigate the screens and enter the details for you. Then the seller doesn't have to implement anything, which is the real barrier here. Alas, we can't even get consistent acceptance of chip readers in the US. RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Deceus - 11-02-2018 Just don't expect Paypal to ever let go of a bank account. I tried for a good bit to get them to drop an old account after it got overdrafted. I took partial blame but a transaction decided to default to that account even though my other account has been the default for quite some time. I guess I should have double checked but I asked them if they could remove it since I just get an error saying there's a pending transaction. They asked me if I knew what the pending charge was and I told them there absolutely wasn't one since I haven't used the debit card in over a year for anything. They told me they couldn't tell me what it was either but somehow knew for sure there was one there and refused to remove the account so there it stays and gave me the same steps I just used. Tried again a few weeks later in case it was the overdraft BS and then again a little while after that and it's same story everytime. They also couldn't tell if/when my back-up option was ever going to be used. I was curious because there was a back-up for that transaction but instead they just hit the same savings account 3 times in a row. That's a lot of I don't knows coming from a company that has direct access to almost all of my money for my comfort. I'm closing everything out the moment my paypal credit is paid off. I'll close the damn account with the bank if I have to in order to cut them off. Can you imagine if we took the same approach and let these monkeys work on embedded firmware or software on a '80s era computer? RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - JPolen01 - 12-07-2018 3 months of back and forth with a customer. Lease negotiations, answering countless questions on the product/services offered, god knows how many phone calls that could have been taken care of via email only to get ghosted. After repeated attempts to contact I get the generic "project is on hold" response. Well, that's all well and good, but on hold for how long? A week? A month? A year? Indefinitely? No response after repeated attempts to call/email. Fuck people that can't show some common courtesy. I'll go hell and back to answer any questions or concerns a customer has to make a sale, but getting ghosted drives me absolutely insane. I make it my goal to never do this to anyone in my personal life. RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 12-07-2018 Wait until you start dealing with parents of your kid's classmates. I don't know how some of these people even manage to get dress themselves in the morning. I don't know how some of these people even manage to get dress themselves in the morning. "Crazy day with the kids" becomes a socially acceptable reason to perpetuate all their inconsiderate habits. Kids are unpredictable and parenting is a fuckton of work, but RSVPing to things and no-show, no-call/message habits are escalated to annoying levels. If we have to bail because of the kid, which is totally understandable, we at least tell people. RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 12-07-2018 Or better yet, you know one spouse is cheating on the other and/or the parents are seconds away from filing for divorce. My anecdotes suggest the more happy horseshit people post about their perfect family, the bigger shitshow it is behind the scenes. I think they're trying to convince themselves more than anyone else. I don't wish unhappiness on anyone... but I try to be as transparent about all the stuff that sucks so it's clear we're not all nannies and traveling and cars and date nights and christmas lights. We have made great friends volunteering a lot over the years, since it's basically the same 5 families out of 30 year in and year out that do everything. That said, we are very happy to have only half a year left at the school before the youngest moves on to HS. The other 25 families can't be bothered for jack shit and same story for both kids classes over the last ten years. "Oh, I'm just having such a hard time keeping up with my emails, I'll check it again and see what I can do", said the stay at home mom.
