Last week, I had a local shop install my beefy frame rail replacements as well as a 1x1 square tube along the rockers that will serve as my jack point and place to put jack stands. This past weekend I cleaned it all up and repainted the interior to get the rollbar and pans, as well as touch up a few areas that were scratched/marred during the other installs. Here's some pictures of the current state, but if you want details or more pics go here: I'm actually going to be pulling the seats back out and putting down some seam sealant b/c I didn't have it until today. Then I can finish up the seat and harness install until I'm ready to put the dash back in. - PDenbigh - 04-22-2009 THAT is the way the front of those pans should look. Re: Project: track 240z - Dave - 12-19-2009 Long time, no update. Few projects I've been working on recently outlined below: Finished up the floor pans and such by seam sealing and finishing painting the interior, then priming and putting rubberized undercoat on the bottom of the car. Interior will be completely done after guages are put into the dash (after I buy them) and it's reinstalled. Pulled the engine and transmission: Then removed the sheet metal around the engine bay: Was planning on just replacing all the fuel and hydraulic hard lines, but I'm going to strip the engine bay and clean it up since the engine is already out and that should be a relatively low-budget task. I've pulled everything out, time to remove all the old paint, prime, and make it look good again. Re: Project: track 240z - PDenbigh - 12-19-2009 Nice! Life and some other projects have limited my time to devote to it. I'll post up more details before too long, I hope... In other Z news, I finally took care of my engine donor. So nice to not have that in the yard any more... I'm not gonna disclose any plans for buildups b/c who knows what will be on the market by the time I get to that point. Right now the focus would be to just get it so it can move under its own power. That said, it's mainly being built for track days and if I want to compete would really fall into time trial, as it certainly won't qualify for historics and classing it anywhere else will be hard with my current plan. I am keeping my original L24 in case I ever want to pursue any of those though... Over the past year, I haven't found a lot of time to actually work on this car. I managed to extract the donor engine, as seen in my last post, but that's a long way from going in and running. Rather, I've spent most of my time working on cleaning out the engine bay, repairing holes, and basically refreshing the entire area to have a fresh start. I've got a ton of pictures, but the minute details would bore you to tears and not worth the time posting them. Instead, I'll recap what I've done and post a picture of how it sits today... -removed everything from the engine bay except for the engine crossmember -stripped ALL of the paint and primer, down to bare sheet metal. Talstrip, wire wheels, sandpaper; no sandblasting .-put down a coat of etching primer on the metal to prevent any further corrosion during the project -stripped, primed, and painted the cowl area (hint of what color the car will be) -stripped engine crossmember almost to where it looked polished, then primed and painted grey metallic flake (leftover from interior) -laid up fiberglass to cover the gaps between the front of my new floor pans and the old (but solid) metal -laid fiberglass to give a smooth contour in the area of the battery box and also cover 2 unnecessarily large holes for wiring (previous owner had repaired this area pretty solidly, but didn't give as much attention to aesthetics as I would like) -applied Bondo and MANY hours of sanding to the battery box to make the appearance smooth and clean. I probably spent more time than necessary, as I'm pretty sure I had to reapply it in a couple areas b/c I had sanded off too much. This project took the most time b/c it's a small area to work in and was honestly a pain in the arse to do. I'm still not 100% satisfied, but 99% is good enough for a track car. Used seam sealer for a few other small cracks around the bay. -masked off engine bay and sprayed 3M Bedliner along the frame rails, battery box, and floor (where I closed the gap) to prevent any future corrosion. What's next? -couple more coats of primer and sanding the whole thing to 400/600 grit so it's nice and smooth -paint -begin slow chore of reassembly and cleaning up everything as they go back in -new brake, fuel, and clutch piping Re: Project: track 240z - Goodspeed - 02-21-2011 :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup: Its these kind of complete teardown and rebirth builds that are the most entertaining - glad to have a couple here in MM to follow.
