- Apoc - 07-17-2007 I should get a headstart since I don't have a tach. The only time I know when to shift is when the DirtDevil starts gaining on me because I'm bouncing it off the limiter. - .RJ - 07-17-2007 Apoc Wrote:I should get a headstart since I don't have a tach. The only way I know when to shift is when the front wheel touches back down.
- CaptainHenreh - 07-17-2007 Channing, are you sure you're set on the GS500? I mean, if you've got your heart set on a Suzuki, why not a Bandit 600? - Apoc - 07-17-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:I mean, if you've got your heart set on a Suzuki, why not a Bandit 600? Probably because they're ugly.

Oh, because GS500's are sooooooooo pretty. - BLINGMW - 07-18-2007 CaptainHenreh Wrote:Channing, are you sure you're set on the GS500? no, not realy, but it's #1 for now CaptainHenreh Wrote:I mean, if you've got your heart set on a Suzuki, why not a Bandit 600? I don't have any brand loyalty yet.... I didn't even know about that that Bandit thing. Kinda cool, I didn't know they had a recent inline 6. Seems like more trouble and weight than it's worth though. I'll pass. - Ginger - 07-18-2007 The only real Bandit is the 1200. - Apoc - 08-06-2007 stevegula Wrote:If you'd rather go into turn 1 at VIR North or Summit looking behind you, by all means go for it. I'd be impressed with your talent. See steve's comment about talent. - Apoc - 08-06-2007 Shutup I'm just stirring the pot! Actually, if you see a rider closing on you too fast maybe you can do something to avoid it... kinda like in a car. - .RJ - 08-06-2007 How do you know if they're closing too fast, or just going up the inside on corner entry? Your reasoning sucks. - Apoc - 08-06-2007 There wasn't an inside to go up in this example. Bottom line: More information > Less information - .RJ - 08-06-2007 Mirrors wouldnt have helped in this case - IMHO. Even if you saw the bike there, there wouldnt have been nearly enough time to react to the guy lowsiding it behind you to take any sort of evasive action. The problem is with that group, and this just reinforces my decision to never put myself on track with them. - Apoc - 08-06-2007 Yesss! Same group that let Matt "mock race" with like 3 days experience? - .RJ - 08-06-2007 Apoc Wrote:Yesss! Same group that let Matt "mock race" with like 3 days experience? Nope. That was a NESBA day. I'd be impressed with your talent.the arguments for taking mirrors off always crack me up. are motorcyclists' peripheral vision, situational awareness, and multitasking abilities really that bad that you couldnt possibly use the extra information about your surroundings that mirrors provide? now if you want to say that they are saftey issues with getting tangled up with other bikes then fine. but ive never heard that one used. its always something about the evils of being able to see behind you or a rider not being able to handle it. brake lights being 'distracting' is another funny one Apoc Wrote:Bottom line: More information > Less information [/hate] - .RJ - 08-06-2007 Evan Wrote:the arguments for taking mirrors off always crack me up. are motorcyclists' peripheral vision, situational awareness, and multitasking abilities really that bad that you couldnt possibly use the extra information about your surroundings that mirrors provide? You've gotta cater to the lowest common denominator here - a squid on a too-fast-for-him street bike, going to the track in total sensory overload. I took mine off for the track, and just left 'em off for the street too. I dont feel like I'm missing anything, and it forces me to be more aware of whats around me rather than getting complacent with a glance in the mirror. - Evan - 08-06-2007 hrm, I guess, but wouldnt it be better to reduce the sensory overload by reducing factors overloading his senses (ie- more controlled environment) rather than just blinding him to what is already there? - .RJ - 08-06-2007 Evan Wrote:hrm, I guess, but wouldnt it be better to reduce the sensory overload by reducing factors overloading his senses (ie- more controlled environment) Yes it would... bike events are just a whole different world than with cars in terms of safety and organization (in general). Some better than others, of course. |
