Uh yes, you need to keep your NASA radio on you at all times Kaan. The second that Pete confirmed what I had thought I heard on the radio, I was on it trying to tell you and RJ so you could go check on him.

- Kaan - 07-31-2006

remember i'm not issued a NASA radio... but if you guys are going to do so... i'll take one with a sholder mic please. Smile because that way i can talk to JJ and Mark while crawling in cars for safety inspections Smile

- Dragon - 07-31-2006

Actually there is a radio that's reserved specifically for tech (tech 1 & tech 2 if memory serves), if you don't come pick it up though then you can't be reached.

- Kaan - 07-31-2006

Tech works on Friday nights, we are the first people at the track on Saturday and Sunday... I think someone needs to drop it off to me ... well both of them so i can cover both channels at once.

PDenbigh Wrote:Highlights of the weekend include Chad's and my win at the Karting Enduro, passing my fair share of fast cars in HPDE 3 while still on street tires, getting an official race car log book on the XR, and Maeng saying "I followed you up turn 7 and as you accellerated out you lit up your rear tires. Damn that thing has a lot of power!". :-).

How about you locking it up on the straight and nearly taking out that mustang Wink. I'm guessing you expected a point and never got it?

that was incredible. going up 7 in a tiny miata, i always feel like i'm bogging. i assume (hope) you were in 2nd gear cuz when i saw all that smoke pouring from the rear tires going uphill around a sharp right hander, i was like holy shit! try that corner in third and get on the gas much earlier and carry all that speed up

- CaptainHenreh - 07-31-2006

Ok, someone tell me if I've lost my mind.

I swear that I saw a 959 on my way home, sitting in the grass on the left hand side as one exit's the North Paddock. It was silver (weren't they all?) and had ID tags.

I just got a double-take glimpse of it before we were too far to be sure, but...

That actually was 3rd gear. Next time I'm there I'll try 4th and your reccomendation - thanks!

You weren't seeing things, it was indeed there, Evan and I saw it.

My cliffs notes:

Sat: Qual on pole by 1.4 seconds. Nailed the start, went to shift to 3rd, lever went up with a BAD crunch but not in gear. Took it out of gear, put it back up, into FIRST gear. With a 9,000 rpm engine brake, Doug behind me slams into me. Most of the field passes and im in 3rd to last out of 13 cars.
Charged back up 8 places into 2nd over the next few laps. Missed the same shift in T1 and got passed back to 3rd. took another lap to get by him, back to 2nd and less then a second off leader and gaining. Then I carried the trailbraking too deep into T4, went sideways off the track. Back to 4th place. Got by 3rd and 2nd place car (again...lather, rinse, repeat) but P1 car was a good 15 secs ahead. Walked him down a bit but the race was over. Finished 2nd. Not bad considering.

Sun: Under the class track record in practice (unofficial). Qual on pole by over a second. Started in 3rd gear, nailed the start but didnt have enough torque. Tyler got by me but I got him back a lap later. Checked out, I couldnt even see P2 behind me at the end.

Ill have saturday's video up as soon as Im unpacked in my new place. Definately fun to watch. Lots of people came up to me after the race to say how fun it was to watch me move through the field, which was cool but of course Im not happy with anything other than a win! :p

yup. 959. Most likely part of the gallery collection and one of less than 10 in the country. I meant to take some pics of it but didnt have time.

- Apoc - 07-31-2006

Saturday - Qualified 2nd, led from green flag until 1.5 laps left. Fatigue really got to me and I couldn't hold off the resulting winner any longer finishing 2nd.

Sunday - Bad alternator and car died first lap of qualifying. Started 17th and posted 2nd quickest lap to finish 4th. I caught the guys I needed to beat but ran out of time to pass them and they finished 2nd & 3rd. :-(

and you were stuck between 5 and 6? I saw that

I failed to meet you, sorry about that, I didn't pay attention and didn't know you were out there!

do you have a limited slip diff in the back? through all the smoke, i couldnt tell if it was just the inside unloaded tire spinning, but with all of that, i'm pretty sure it was both tires. and if you were in 3rd, that's disgusting. Confusedhock:

Not to steal Pete's thunder, but he does:

- PDenbigh - 07-31-2006

Yeah, but It's a viscous LSD, so while both wheels were spinning, the inside was probably spinning more quickly...?

One thing I was concentrating on this weekend was reducing shifts. I would go from 3rd to 4th at the top of 7, and I was able to hold that all the way to alsmost start/finish when I ran out of RPM's and hit 5th gear. I "thought" that going up 7 in 4th would bog my car down too much but I should have at least tried it once... I guess I was usually coming in really hot from passing people on the little straight prior to 7 and I didn't think about it. Doh.

- Maengelito - 07-31-2006

7 is a tricky but really fun turn. the grip there is a lot higher than people think (unless you get punted from the side by a FFR). i know it'll probably be awhile before you make it back to VIR-N but its something you might wanna play with in a couple of sessions

No worries... I tend to hide out around the trailer when the weather is so hot.

I pulled off near the apex on 5. I was going to try and limp around back to the paddock but I just didn't have any juice to go any farther.
