Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - PDenbigh - 06-04-2013 Is it running yet? :-) Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - D_Eclipse9916 - 06-27-2013 So this isn't so much of a big update. Time has been scarce in the past month between working for Bodymotion at NJMP, building a chump car, getting the NASA race car ready for Hyperfest, racing hyperfest, and racing chump car. Pretty much knocked out all my weekends. However I did invite a few friends over on a weekday night after work and we made the final nail in the coffin for this project happen: pulled the sedan in the garage and threw her on jackstands. Then made room for the new motor by pulling the stock s52 engine/trans out of the car. (S52 engine is still for sale!!) ![]() Going on a vacation/break this weekend, and then will be ordering some of the goodies to start getting the LS1 motor together. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-25-2013 A little progress... Sold the spare LS1 engine, and have the S52 that came from this car being picked up on Saturday. This will finally leave me room to start working more on this project. Plus the race car has no additional work needed for the August race. I went ahead and ordered: -Water Pump -Thermostat/Thermostat Housing -Intake Manifold Gaskets -LS1 MAF -Oil Filter -Spark Plugs I then have received some new goodies for performance. I ordered an LS6 intake manifold which should get me to around ~330rwhp without a cam and an LS6 PCV breather setup. This moves the breathers from the valve covers to the valley cover. Vastly improving breathing in the block. Now for the hard decision, cam or no cam? Right now as the engine sits with the headers/ls6 intake manifold/dual exhaust/intake/tune, it should make somewehere around 330rwhp, maybe a bit more. I have a hard time leaving stuff alone, so I am afraid I would always "what if" if I had the cams. Right now I am looking at the SNS Torquemax Stage 2 "mild" cams. They are slightly more mild to help spring longevity, have a massive torque band, and should idle very nearly like stock. This would get me in the 390-400rwhp range, give a nice agressive idle/sound. For the price of a typical exhaust, I could have another 70rwhp.... I need a tune anyway to get the car running, so I am not sure it makes sense to tune for stock cams, and then get a cam and have to tune it again. What say you MM? Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - JPolen01 - 07-25-2013 If you have the extra coin, why not upgrade the cam now while you have the motor out? It doesn't make sense to pay for 2 tunes. Plus moar power is always moar better, right? Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - JustinG - 07-25-2013 STFU and buy the cam. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - Sully - 07-25-2013 Why isn't this thing done yet? I'm already bored of it. Dj, put on your baller pants and get this bitch done And shoot for say 650 at the wheels. Thanks. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - SlimKlim - 07-25-2013 Cam it. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - JustinG - 07-25-2013 And I think its silly you asked a bunch of car guys if we thought you needed more power. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - SlimKlim - 07-25-2013 I mean, can't you make 270-280whp with a stage II cammed S52? And a modded N/A S54 can make 300whp. Since you're going through the trouble of adding 2 cylinders, you might as well add more than 30-50hp of what the 6 cylinder options would do. Cam it. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - JustinG - 07-25-2013 DJ.....Dont be a bitch.....
Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - Evan - 07-25-2013 id say 330whp is already bordering on "more power you can really use on the street", but doing stuff twice sucks, so if you need a tune anyway, go for it. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - Maengelito - 07-25-2013 I think one of the best noises (not just engine noises, but noises in the audible spectrum) is a big V8 with a lumpy cam. You might as well do it while the engine is still out and before getting it tuned. Re: Project 6.0L Sedan - D_Eclipse9916 - 07-25-2013 Peer pressure works, now for 3-10 business days...
