RE: You know what really grinds my gears?! - Apoc - 07-20-2018

When someone sends you a meeting invite that overlaps when another meeting, you inform them said conflict, and they respond with "do you have any other time free?"

Ummm... maybe check my calendar? There's even a function in Outlook that shows you all the invitees calendars...

You know what really grinds my gears?! - JustinG - 07-20-2018

Yesssssss!

"When are you available?"

See the white stuff? That's the free time.

Also fuckers who don't know how to put OOTO on their Outlook calendar.

Day before meeting....

"I'm OOTO during that time, can we reschedule"

Then why isn't your calendar fucking purple!

My personal favorite:

Client: "Schedule a follow up with me, my calendar is up to date"

David: **checks calendar, blocks 1 hr in a totally open day**

Client: **declined** "I have another meeting at that time"

......

Rant on/
Having to coordinate with three admins to get on one persons calendar. After being instructed to coordinate with Debbie and Phil, Phil says Mrs. VP is open at X. OK can you invite so and so as well? "Not my job to schedule" Fuck it, I'll do it. Next meeting, coordinate with Phil and Debbie for Jill's availability and then I send invite. Get an email from another VP Bernie, "Steve, going forward, please coordinate with Debbie and Phil to get on Jill's calendar". Oh, for fuck sake, apparently it's Debbie's role to send invite. And, it's someone else's job to actually coordinate all this shit and they didn't do it so I did. And the third person - needed to reserve the room at the building where Jill will be that day because Phil and Debbie are at a different building and can't reserve that room...

"As we discussed..." Yeah we discussed it, but note the difference in the newly available details, hence the question. (Yay, three more emails to resolve!)

Working with an overseas team during a month where they typically work less and have a weekend that is Fri / Sat. Especially when the updates need to come quick.

Conference room technology that sucks ass and wastes 20 minutes trying to get the equipment to work after driving an hour to get there.

Working with a new team where the lead makes BS remarks because you don't know their program inside and out...then realizes 4 days before the proposal is due they never had the IT guy develop the separate system the program needs to operate on.

Sharepoint admins that suck - "Hey Carl, can you send me the updated contracts piece"
"It's on the SP site"
"I looked in the contracts folder, it's not there"
"It's in the Technical folder"
If your response is going to simply be "it's on the site", you better fucking make sure that shit is organized.

And last but not least- anyone who thinks they can develop a workable excel template that takes into consideration every possible scenario and litters the thing with "no formulas for flexibility" and "If offeror does this, do this, if not, do this, or indicate what you do and add columns rows as necessary". How about you tell me how you want the data summarized, and I'll provide the details as backup instead having to attend a training session on your brilliant "template" because you know how overly complicated it is.

So fucking ready for my vacation... OOTO on, cargo box loaded with beach chairs.

People not being able to handle calendars, email, and expectations is why we will never make it to "Star Trek" without some kind of selective breeding / unspeakable cleansing.

I could write an entire list about airport / airplane gripes, but one of my biggest ones is people walking around like a damn oaf super slow inside the jetway, arms spread out with all of their junk and not letting anyone walk by (same applies for inside the airport, especially when they stand two deep with their clan of oafs on the moving sidewalk instead of staying right so others can move). I was almost late to boarding my next segment because this slow, wide legged manatee wouldn't move over and let anyone by on the jetway. I finally had to give him the bro-shoulder tap and gentle push so me and about 30 other people could rush to catch our segments.

I almost saw this bro get pummeled on the escalator going up from L'Enfant for standing on the left side. Multiple people tapped him to move and he kept moving back to standing on the left. Finally his gf yelled at him and explained why they people were telling him to move. He still looked confused.

People do not stand right, walk left here. It drives me mad with rage.

In general, people who are spread across the an entire fucking sidewalk lollygagging with no consideration that other people are near them. This is exacerbated when you're in a city and you can't go around them without WALKING INTO TRAFFIC.

You've been that guy in other situations and not even known it.  We all have.

I give them an assertive 'excuse me' or 'can I sneak by' and they are usually surprised and apologetic.

Polen can feel me on this one

When a potential client ghosts on you after a proposal 6 months ago (ie doesn't return the salesperson's emails, agreed upon follow up) and then shows up out of the blue and asks me for another urgent proposal this week. But for what product bro? I can't even. Guess what, our prices went up across the board, have fun man

I know some of you all hate salespeople, but honestly working with a bad buyer of something is worse in some ways.

sales guys get a bad rap but i definitely think the horrible buyers just perpetuate some of the terrible sales habits.  nobody can take you seriously if you go into a deal thinking you're going to throw your weight around and get whatever you want at the snap of a finger for a steal.

Right?

An actual conversation I had with a realtor/buyer when I used to sell homes in Chantilly:

Realtor walks in:  "Sir, please tell me your lowest price"
Me (super busy with other buyers):  "Hello there, nice to meet you.  Lowest price on what exactly?"
Realtor:  "What is your lowest price you can go"
Me:  "I don't know what you are looking for.  We sell a wide range of home types in this neighborhood at a few different price points"
Realtor:  "Sir just tell me your lowest price"
Me:  "There's a price sheet on the table over there, feel free to grab one"
Realtor:  "No but just tell me the lowest price you can go"
Me:  "Okay, have a look around. I'll be in the office"

Bingo.

Actual conversation yesterday:

Customer (first time speaking with him): "So what is the price?"
Me: (long 30 second pause) "Of what sir?"
Customer: "You know, the building"
Me: "Well that number depends on a few factors including the size of the building, the delivery location, and the lease duration"
Customer: "Just give me a ballpark for a standard one"
Me: "Sir nothing is standard in this industry. Everything is tailored to your needs. We have over 30 different size buildings. I need some more information on your needs..."
Customer: "Just give me a ballpark man"
Me: (knowing this is a tire kicker) "About $1300 per month"
Customer: :click:

I have not ever called a company for any product or service and asked for a random number over the phone and been willing to provide zero relevant info. I do not understand how people think this will work in their favor.

Haha a lot of patience brother.  You've gotta have thick skin to be successful in any type of custom solution / high end sales.  I'm just glad I'm not in the front lines anymore, it really starts to wear on you after a while.
