Steve King has always been a turdface, this is just another example...but isn't he, you know, Iowa's problem to solve?

Yikes. The Midwest is a strange place.

It was a hypothetical.  Aside - the bizarro thing about King being such a hard line anti-immigrant/nationalist piece of shit, is that his district is full of dairy farms that rely heavily on immigrant labor working off the books.

GOP took their fuckin' crazy pills today thats for sure though.

I'm glad to see Trump's proposed rollback of auto pollution regulations blowing up in his face. It is pretty astonishing to see an industry telling the federal government that they welcome more regulation. Not to mention that no consumer, regardless of political affiliation, would turn down better gas mileage. I quite enjoy watching California bully Trump on this front and seemingly win.

Quote:Together, the six manufacturers who so far plan not to adhere to the new Trump rules account for more than 40 percent of all cars sold in the United States.

“You get to a point where, if enough companies are with California, then what the Trump administration is doing is moot,” said Alan Krupnick, an economist with Resources for the Future, a nonpartisan energy and environment research organization.

Changing the regulations is all part of his larger plan to accelerate climate change so that Greenland keeps melting away and has to be sold.

Trump on, "engines would run smoother."

Hey come on now, we could do away with squishy engine mounts if they ran smoother! Hear the guy out!

Do you guys think Trump remembers that he appointed Jerome Powell to run the Fed?

My inner tree hugger is coming out…

Short Story: William Pendley hates public lands, wants to sell off public lands, wrote about it as late as 2016… and is now somehow the highest civilian with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)… write/call your congressmen/senators to push them to appoint a real Director to the BLM.

Long Story: Do you like hiking, fishing, hunting, the outdoors? Did you know you, as a citizen, are part owner of all state and nationally managed public lands? Do you want to keep our nations largest asset (worth more than all the gold that used to be in Fort Knox) of the citizens and future generations? We all should.

Our public lands are managed by the Department of Interior, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), etc. The BLM itself oversees hundreds of millions of our acres… and over 200 million acres of mineral rights mostly west of the Mississippi. A BLM whistle blower has leaked information that shows a major issue that threatens our public lands.

William Pendley is a government employee, somehow hired to work with the BLM, and now holding the highest post (acting) with the BLM. Pendley is a lawyer that used to work for a firm that exclusively sues the government, on behalf of corporations, to gain access to public lands.

He was hired to oversee and manage the BLM policy department, but when the Director stepped down, Pendley became acting. As soon as this occurred he began a reorganization to further isolate long standing public servants in the field and to centralize his policy office in DC. The theory is (based on his writings), Pendley is looking to make the BLM so dysfunctional that it ends up on the government chopping block through manipulation of policy. The whistle blower also produced government documents of a major shift in BLM policy toward long term land leases… and his reorganization is moving BLM oversight away from the majority of corporate leases.

Normally this wouldn’t be too bad of a thing… but Pendley has written articles for decades on his philosophy of public lands. Basically, his philosophy is to sell off as much as he can, not in parcels the average person can buy, but in thousands of acre parcels to corporations for mining, oil, mass cattle grazing, etc. Pendley says its to “pay off the national debt.” We all know once money goes in the government in big chunks its not going to pay off a bill.

There is a huge detriment to selling off this land. In the short term, if they did pay off the debt, okay… but in the long term the lost taxes off of the +$900 billion (annually) out door industry would take a hit. Who is going to buy out door gear when there is almost no public out door land to go to? They don’t make more land, we cant afford to sell it off… its OUR LAND, lets keep it that way.

No matter your affiliation, we all need to take action immediately. Congress needs to appoint a Director to the BLM before this guy destroys the nations greatest asset. His philosophies have been enacted in half a dozen states, such as Wisconsin and Texas… where they have less than 2% of the overall state is public land (to include national, state, and county parks!).

That is a shame, but nothing new here. See the rollback of protections of the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument and Trump trying to open the Alaskan refuge for drilling. This administration and Republicans, in general, have zero regards for the environment if they can make a dollar now. It won't be their problem when they die.

RE: Electile Dysfunction (Current students plz look!) - .RJ - 08-26-2019

As much as time as I spend outdoors, the raping and pillaging of public lands is the #1 jimmy rustler for me of this administration - however this issue has been brewing for much longer than Trump in office - old rich white guys are buying huge swaths of land out west and closing off access to public lands where there were previously easements for trails, roads, etc. "fuck you, I got mine" is at the core of the modern GOP.

They are actively working to dismantle the gov't from the inside out for the benefit of for profit enterprises, that, no surprise, are run by old rich white guys who want to get richer.

If you dont believe me, read this - https://www.amazon.com/Fifth-Risk-Michael-Lewis/dp/1324002646/ref=sr_1_1?crid=142IEJUTPS17Q&keywords=michael+lewis+fifth+risk&qid=1566826142&s=gateway&sprefix=michael+lewis%2Caps%2C346&sr=8-1

And you cannot sit there and tell me with a straight face "this is all fine because the economy is good and the fed aint bothering me"

Not to defend anyone... but there has to be a balance. you cant lock everything up all the time... but you cant let it get destroyed either. I'm against drilling in the Alaskan refuge, though I'm pro energy independence. When technology/technique is safe enough, which I don't think it is, then I wouldn't have an issue with it.

public land and sell offs... all sides are guilty. one of my biggest opposition to letting states control the countries public land is because they are HIGHLY likely to sell off public lands to pay debts. I thought the Fed was the protection against this... but now they are acting a fool.

This does come up on the federal level about every 20-30 years... but we have to smash this ASAP.

Also... Dem RJ... your boy Obama opened up mineral and mining rights to Chinese companies on our public land. They are literally taking US gold back to China. its not all "rich white guys."

Source? That's a nice sound bite, but is it like Hillary selling Uranium to the Russians?
