Nice. It definitely is an awesome setup, I love bluetooth connectivity and all of the "modes" it has. The night mode is especially useful for not pissing off my townhouse neighbors late at night

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 02-11-2014

SFH is the way to go! I didn't read up on night mode... Just assumed it dimmed the lights or something. I'm guessing it drops the bass? Yep. Neat. But... SFH. Smile

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Evan - 02-11-2014

you two are crazy. I have a vizio soundbar for a secondary tv and its better than the tv speakers but its a clock radio in comparison to my infinity/onkyo 5.1 setup.

maybe its as good as one of those bose satellite systems, but it doesnt touch real speakers.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 02-11-2014

For once, Evan and I agree on something. I can see how it would a better option if you value space and/or cost, but I couldn't see foregoing the big stuff if you have the means.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 02-11-2014

I've got a Bose 5.1 in my living room connected in to a Denon amp and it's fine. I am not as much of an audiophile as you all I guess. I definitely liked the fact that the Vizio system doesn't need an amp and 100ft of speaker wire and that I didn't have to cut more holes in my wall again. We may not even be in this house in a few years so I am not going to hardwire up thousands of dollars of speakers into this place.

The Vizio system rocks honestly, it's way too loud for this space when cranked up and it's super clear. Yeah Mike it cuts the bass so you don't have to go back and forth in the settings when you don't want to bug the neighbors.

Are you selling an receiver as part of that old setup?

Yes. http://www.amazon.com/Marantz-NR1403-5- ... B0081N916M. I'm across the country and do not provide MM discounts (thank Justin) so it probably isn't for you.

Guys, guys, I'm into and appreciate fancy stereo equipment. I am for reals when I say the difference at normal listening levels is negligible and the space difference is very appreciable. Now if I want to watch some Star Wars battle scene at epic volume levels and really feel like I'm there? Sure, a little immersion may be lost, but I may do something like that once a year. I think I got the levels dialed in pretty well yesterday, played a few hours of BF4 and it was amazing. Old/bulky 5.1 setups are a thing of the past; technology has caught up.

+1

Fits like a glove in the space above the "fireplace" in the entertainment center:

It's dark down here but you get it...so much better than a huge amp setup with wires crossing all over the place:

Hidden rear subwoofer that cranks hard and two satellite speakers. Probably could have tucked the wire under the base moulding but I was lazy when I set it up:

My favorite feature is the Bluetooth connectivity. I can walk into the room, play Pandora on my laptop tablet or phone and send it right to the system.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Apoc - 02-13-2014

I can't decide if that fireplace is pimp, ridiculous, or both.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 02-13-2014

I've not loved the Bluetooth too much. Well, I mean I do love it, but a) my iPad mini pretty much needs to be sitting next to the unit to have a good signal. I doubt this is the fault of the soundbar as I can go pretty much anywhere in the house with my phone and it works and b) every time I connect a device, I feel I need to "forget" it on the device and then repair with the soundbar. Not a huge deal, but steps I feel I shouldn't have to be making.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - Mike - 02-13-2014

I was gonna call it ridiculous, but yeah...

Finally got our chimney repaired. Can't wait to burn some mfing logs.

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - WRXtranceformed - 02-13-2014

Mike, I like those bookcases on both sides of the fireplace. If you don't have one already it would be good to buy a good screen to go in front of it.

It is ridiculous and awesome at the same time. What makes it pimp is the remote control  Everything about it including the "fire" height and "log" glow is customizable, as well as the heater which can be turned on and off even if the "fire" is on. I wish we had a wood burning or even a natual gas fireplace, although we rarely would need it here. The house my father built on our farm had a three story structural stone fireplace that he pieced together with stones from the Blue Ridge Mountains when he was a stone mason. I don't have any pictures of it but it is insane and a highlight of the memories of my childhood.

For what it is this little thing is pretty energy efficient and heats the space down here surprisingly well. It came with the "package" so I left it in for the pimp factor.

I know the next piece of electronics Mikey needs.

Or do it like we did it on the farm if you want to combine your workout and wood splitting together:

Re: The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thre - JustinG - 02-13-2014

Im def gonna look into that sound bar when my receiver goes kaput or we move to a new place.

The official tablet (and other useless electronics) thread! - Mike - 02-13-2014

No splitting at this house, unfortunately. Did a lifetime's worth at the last place. No trees here. And I'm not going to the woods to split, haul, and season my own. Definitely a Craigslist order.

Fire screen is on the shopping list. We know we need it. $300 is hard to pull on, but might as well.
